The Age of Winter - Heorot Boss Guide
Heorot is the final boss of the The Age of Winter Monolith Timeline in Last Epoch. The fight takes place in a large snowy arena and is a multi-phase encounter featuring both heavy attacks, crowd control, and summon mechanics. Heorot relies heavily on Cold Damage, freezing mechanics, and arena control.
Boss Mechanics
Here is a detailed breakdown of all major abilities and what to watch out for:
Frozen Beam
Heorot unleashes a channeling freezing beam right in front of him. You will see the frost form on his horns before he shoots, giving you enough time to move to the side. The beam can freeze you if you get hit so be careful.
Frozen Explosion and Icicles
He will combine ground explosions that turn into Ice Rocks, behind which you will have to hide to evade his upcoming frozen orbs that will shoot constant Icicles at you.
Frozen Stab
Heorot will poke in a line in font of him. You will see the line on the ground before he stabs, giving you time to move out. This attack deals Cold and Physical damage.
Frozen Trail
Heorot unleashes a trail of ice on the ground towards you. If you play a ranged class, he will do that often.
Frozen Circles
Heorot will draw on the ground a circle that will detonate after a small second. He will do three consecutive circles. He starts by putting the first one close to him, and the other two will always be larger and more far away from himself. After the first detonation, you can move close to him, as the other two will detonate further away, and you should be safe if you stay close.
Frozen Shield
Heorot surrounds himself in a massive ice shield. He will use this skill only twice — when he hits 55% hp and 35% hp. Each time he does this, he will summon adds. You can only brak the shield by killing all the adds. The second time, he will keep spawning the adds even after the shield is gone, and will do so until the end of the fight.
Frozen Blizzard
Heorot spawns a massive blizzard in a circle around him. The circle is rather away from him, and takes the full map, so you can only be safe if you stay in melee range. However, be careful as he often uses a dash to run away from you while he does his Blizzard, which puts you at risk of being caught into the blizzard. This attack deals massive cold damage and Shreds your cold resistance, making it very fast, a deadly attack if you touch it.
Charge and Jump
This doesn’t really do damage on itself. He simply rushes away from you, or jumps away. If he doesn’t hit anything, he will dash two screens away. However, be careful when he uses the frost blizzard as you can get hit by that one when he dashes away.
Encounter Walkthrough & Strategy
Heorot will only use ice attacks, but most attacks are predictable, and you can learn his rhythm quickly.
- Keep close and focus on mobility. You don’t want to be too much in range, as most of his attacks will hit at range, and leave a safe spot only close to him.
- Kill the adds as fast as possible.
Recommended Defensive Stats:
- 75% Cold Resistance
- Minimum 1200–1500 HP
- High movement speed is crucial for survival
- Consider Freeze Avoidance or Cleanse skills
Unique Boss-Specific Rewards
Heorot has four possible unique drops:
Call of the Tundra and Reign of Winter are both common unique drops with a 50% chance each. However, they are mutually exclusive, meaning you will only get one per kill. These drops are available in both Normal and Empowered timelines, and Corruption does not affect their drop rates.
Yulia's Path is a rare unique drop. Although it can technically drop in normal timelines, it is much more likely to appear in Empowered Monoliths at higher corruption levels.
Faith of the Frozen is exclusive to Empowered timelines. This rare unique drops more reliably with increased Corruption.
