Mists of Pandaria Classic Fishing Profession and Leveling Guide
Fishing
is a secondary profession that any character can learn. It does
not take up a primary profession slot.
Note that, when you do level Fishing,
you will have a huge amount of fish that can be used to level your
Cooking. It is recommended
that you use this fish to level Cooking up at the same time, saving yourself
plenty of gold.
Fishing
is one of the four secondary professions available to all players
in Mists of Pandaria Classic. As it is a secondary profession, it can be learned by all
players without conflicting with other professions. Fishing can be useful early
on to provide yourself with free food while leveling, or to make gold at level
cap.
Fishing
goes great when paired together with
Cooking
as you can use most of the fish you catch while fishing to level your cooking at
the same time, leveling 2 professions for free at once.
Leveling Fishing in Mists of Pandaria
Fishing
can be leveled from level 1 all the way to 600 in any water here you can fish.
This means you can sit even in any zone (higher or lower than your Fishing skill
requires) and fish all the way up to max level, making leveling fishing one of the
easiest professions to level; there is, however, a punishment for fishing
in higher level zones. While your fishing skill is lower level compared to the
area you are fishing in, you will mostly get junk items such as
Old Boot,
which have no value.
If you do decide to level up your fishing in a Pandarian zone where you do not meet
the Fishing Skill requirements to capture the local fish, you will instead start
out by capturing Golden Carps, a lower quality generic fish. These are
more useful than the junk you get from the old world zones, as you can use or
sell the
Golden Carps at least. For this reason, we recommend leveling up your Fishing entire in
a Pandaren zone, near a fishing trainer.

Additional Fishing Skill Increases
In addition to your raw Fishing Skill, you can further increase your skill by using specific items, enchantments, gear, and consumables. These items will give you either a temporary or permanent Fishing Skill increase, increasing the chance that you will catch a fish rather than simply random junk. When leveling Fishing or even farming, it is highly recommended to grab as many of these Fishing Skill improvements as possible.
Mists of Pandaria adds a new toy. Ancient Pandaren Fishing Charm,
that allows you to see extra schools of fish that would otherwise be undetectable.
It is highly recommended to get this toy before going out and farming with
Fishing, as this will give you access to a lot more fishing spots.
Fishing Poles
A fishing pole is one of the easiest ways to gain an increase to your
Fishing skill. Arcanite Fishing Pole remains the best-in-slot fishing pole
in the game, but requires you to win the Stranglethorn Vale fishing tournament
to obtain it, making it rare.
Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole is a close
alternative option that can be obtained much more easily as
The Kaluak is an easy faction to gain reputation for by simply doing
a couple of daily quests every day for a few weeks.
