Mage PvP Guides for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Welcome to our Mage PvP guide for World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria. The following pages will lead you through the basics of Mage PvP, displaying all their strengths and weaknessnes. The guide will focus on Frost, since Arcane is a non-viable spec for Mage PvP in Mists of Pandaria and Fire has some drawbacks and very high gear requirements, making the spec impractial for PvP.
Mage PvP Overview
Mages are a really popular PvP class. Frost a specialization known for delivering potent, coordinated burst damage against single targets. In Mists of Pandaria, it stands out as one of the most dominant PvP caster specs, thanks to its versatile toolkit that combines strong crowd control, tactical burst potential, and valuable utility.
Frost Mages possess a wide array of crowd control options to
disrupt opponents, with Deep Freeze being a signature ability.
This powerful stun can initiate a crowd control chain, followed by
Ring of Frost or
Polymorph on enemy healers, or be used
as cross CC on off-targets. Further,
Deep Freeze can also be
applied to the primary kill target to set up devastating
Shatter combos when paired with
Frostbolt and
Ice Lance.
Massive burst damage from
Shatter combos can be set up with
your Water Elemental’s
Freeze ability (can be used while you are casting)
and your
Frost Nova. Follow them up with
Frostbolt and
Ice Lance.
When it comes to both damage output and control, Frost Mages are among the most impactful casters in the game, making them a formidable threat in PvP scenarios.
Below are links to our guides specifically for
Frost. These guides cover
the optimal specializations, best gear, and useful tips and tricks
to help you maximize your character's performance in PvP scenarios.
Best Mage Races
While you should play the race that brings you most fun, the choices for the best PvP races is crystal clear in Mists of Pandaria.
Alliance: Human.
Will to Survive removes any crowd-control effect on you.
Horde: Orc.
The two racials Hardiness and
Blood Fury provide you
with a strong survivability boost, decreasing all stuns against you,
and a big boost to your burst phase. While
Berserking from Trolls
is also strong for your burst, the Orc racials outweigh them. Since you
will mostly PvP as a Frost Mage and have a great survivability already,
Will of the Forsaken from the Undead race is also not as
impactful as if you had less defensive tools already.
