Core Concepts for PvP Druids

Being a Druid in PvP can feel very different depending on your favored specialization:

  1. Feral Druids deal excellent damage, have great mobility and utility, and can be tough to kill if you use Dire Bear Form IconDire Bear Form well, making them one of the best all-rounder melee classes in Wrath;
  2. Balance Druids rely on the extremely deadly cooldowns Starfall IconStarfall and Force of Nature IconForce of Nature. These allow for easy, quick kills if allowed to go off unchecked, but are also easily countered by most compositions. Outside of cooldowns, Balance requires hard-casting for most of its damage and has survivability issues, making them very one-dimensional;
  3. Restoration Druids are a decent PvP healer, which combines a unique heal-over-time healing style, mostly carried by instant casts which help with mobility, with some of the most disruptive crowd control in the game.

Overall, none of the Druid specializations are particularly meta in Wrath Arena but Feral has the highest chance at being present at the highest ratings, as they bring high consistent damage and frequent setups with Maim IconMaim and instant Cyclone IconCyclones for cross crowd control while killing the stunned target.

2.

Talent Builds for PvP Druids

Druids have multiple viable talent builds in PvP, which come down to your favored specialization.

2.1.

Feral Druid PvP in Wrath Classic

Feral is a versatile specialization, which brings high sustained damage, strong kill setups with Maim IconMaim, and great crowd control potential with Predatory Strikes IconPredatory Strikes, which combos well with heals and Cyclone IconCyclone.

They can also have good survivability with Dire Bear Form IconDire Bear Form, but being in Bear for a long time will heavily affect damage output, and forcing the Druid to be in Bear through heavy focus fire is one of the typical ways to counter Feral Druid compositions. Being able to identify when you need to be defensive and when to reverse pressure with Cat Form IconCat Form is one of the main skills required for Feral PvP.

Our guide below will take you through what you need to know in order to play as Feral in Wrath Classic PvP.

2.2.

Balance Druid PvP in Wrath Classic

Starfall IconStarfall and Force of Nature IconForce of Nature, when uncontested by crowd control on the Druid to stop Starfall or on the treants to stop their melee attacks, allow a Balance Druid to solo an entire enemy team within the 10-second duration of Starfall, and Typhoon IconTyphoon is a great displacement tool.

Unfortunately, the trade-off for the Druid is that these cooldowns have long recharge times and during cooldown downtime a Balance Druid will find it difficult to do deal significant damage, especially if being actively pressured.

Our guide below will take you through what you need to know in order to play as Balance in Wrath Classic PvP.

2.3.

Restoration Druid PvP in Wrath Classic

Restoration Druids are capable of setting up enemies into crowd control chains by themselves, kite melee cleaves, and heal allies in a Mana-efficient manner. They also have the easiest time drinking due to their heal-over-time kit, which will do the job while the Druid is busy drinking behind a pillar.

Our guide below will take you through what you need to know in order to play as Restoration in Wrath Classic PvP.

3.

Best in Slot (BiS) Druid Gear in Wrath Classic

Due to Resilience being a critical factor in reducing damage taken in the Arena and only being present in PvP gear, it is important to plan and acquire a strong set of PvP gear alongside the best PvE pieces in order to have the best chances at winning.

You can read our recommended gear guides below.

4.

Macros and Addons for Druid in Wrath Classic

Macros and Addons can greatly benefit your gameplay, especially in PvP where split-second decisions translate to wins. Macros lessen the time it takes for you to perform an action by combining two or more commands into a single button. Addons increase the amount of information you are receiving, allowing you to make better decisions on the fly.

We list below our guides for Druid-specific Addons and Macros. While many of these are targeted toward PvE, they can also be quite useful for PvP.

5.

PvP Druid Professions in Wrath

Engineering is the main recommended professions due to the high amount of burst damage or healing on demand provided by Hyperspeed Accelerators Icon Hyperspeed Accelerators, which has no equivalent in any other profession. Unfortunately other tinkers, such as Nitro Boosts Icon Nitro Boosts, do not work in the Arena.

Tailoring is also a very strong burst option, especially for Balance Druids, as they win or lose based on their cooldown-heavy opener and Lightweave Embroidery IconLightweave Embroidery is a very powerful Spell Power proc which is almost guaranteed to activate in the opener.

Outside of these professions, Jewelcrafting is the most flexible profession as it allows you to get any stat (even Resilience) with its unique gems, while the other non-mentioned professions provides throughput boosts through Attack Power and Spell Power bonuses.
