About the Author

KendricSwissh is a Master League Warrior and Support player in Hero League. He has been playing Heroes of the Storm since the early stages of the Alpha version and has mastered a large number of Heroes. He is also creating Heroes of the Storm related content on YouTube, most notably his series called Epic Plays of the Week, which focuses on video clips submitted by his viewers. He is also a streamer on Twitch where he will gladly answer all of your questions about the game.

1. General Kharazim Strategy

The fact that Kharazim is a very versatile Hero allows him to fulfill several roles at the same time. No matter if you heal and buff the movement speed of nearby allies with Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven or use Deadly Reach Icon Deadly Reach to damage enemies in order to trigger your trait more frequently, playing Kharazim always requires you to stay very observant throughout the whole game. Also, we cannot stress enough how much of a teamplayer Kharazim is due to the fact that he has virtually no waveclear which makes him a rather poor solo laner.

During the mid-late game, Kharazim's tasks may vary depending on the situation he finds himself in, however, they will mostly include:

  • sustaining his allies using Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven and Transcendence Icon Transcendence, and Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm in order to win team fights and to keep pushes going;
  • using Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash to jump to allies in need or chase down fleeing enemies if a kill can be secured;
  • activating Deadly Reach Icon Deadly Reach to temporarily increase his attack speed which will result in a significant boost of damage (if Iron Fists Icon Iron Fists was chosen at Level 1) and healing (if Transcendence Icon Transcendence was chosen at Level 1);
  • removing as many enemy crowd control effects as possible from nearby allies with the help of Soothing Breeze Icon Soothing Breeze.

We find that Kharazim requires a lot of game knowledge and Map awareness in order to be played efficiently. One of the most important things to master when playing Kharazim is to know how to use Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash. This ability has two charges and allows him to quickly change locations on the battlefield by either dashing towards an enemy or allied target. However, it can also cause Kharazim to misposition or expose himself if he does not carefully assess the situation. Although Kharazim is not a very strong solo laner, you may end up in situations where you have to hold a lane on your own in order to soak experience. If that is the case we strongly recommend you remain passive and patient and avoid taking unnecessary damage from enemy poke. Your Transcendence Icon Transcendence trait at Level 1 combined with Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven and talents like Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield or Healing Ward Icon Healing Ward should be able to provide enough support to stay in lane until allies arrive to assist you.

After both teams reach Level 10, laning becomes a little bit less important which means you should focus on sticking together with the rest of your team to fight for Map Objectives. Like other support Heroes, Kharazim has to rely on good positioning in order to get maximum value of his abilities. Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash proves to be an important tool to help you achieve that.

2. When Not Team Fighting

While team fights do occur quite frequently in Heroes of the Storm, it is equally important to know what you are supposed to do during the rest of the game. Unfortunately, Kharazim is not very good at clearing Mercenary Camps on his own due to his lack of waveclear. Thus, you should always make sure to use pings on the Minimap or communicate via team chat before engaging Mercenaries. Capturing a Bruiser Camp on maps like Sky Temple or Cursed Hollow shortly before the next Map Objective spawns is quite crucial and can heavily influence the outcome of the early game. If no Map Objectives are currently available, or if your team is about to capture one, your next goal should be to make sure that all lanes are soaked, especially before your team has hit Level 10.

How to position yourself when moving around with your teammates is another thing we consider worth mentioning. While marching through enemy territory, you should always walk behind a Warrior and in the vicinity of the healer. If you are not entirely sure about the enemy team's position, you should avoid face-checking bushes at all cost. Instead, make sure to let one of your Warriors walk in first. We cannot stress enough how important good positioning is when playing Kharazim. If the enemy team still manages to catch you off guard, remain calm and observant and use Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash to jump to a nearby ally, if possible.

3. When Team Fighting

Playing Kharazim effectively during a team fight can be a challenging, yet very rewarding experience, as a well placed Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven can save allies in need, allowing them to continue fighting. Furthermore, Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm is an extremely powerful Heroic Abilities that can single-handedly win team fights if used correctly. In general, we like to distinguish between three types of team fights to make things easier, especially for newer and less experienced players.

3.1. Team Fights Started By Your Team

When playing Kharazim as a melee Assassin you should always keep an eye out for squishy enemy Assassins and Specialists in the backline as these will likely be your priority targets. If you play Kharazim as a Support, watching after injured allies should become your top priority. In both cases, Kharazim should never act on his own without considering the rest of his team first. This is mainly because he is very dependent on the crowd control and AoE damage provided by his teammates as he innately lacks both of them.

If your team starts a fight, you normally have one or more Heroes of your team attack the enemy team either by running straight at them or using an initiator to engage the enemy. Usually, the job of initiating team fights falls into the hands of a Warrior such as Johanna, Muradin, or Tyrael, and sometimes melee assassins like Illidan or Zeratul. If your team is the one to start the action, you should immediately support your initiator with Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield and Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven. If you opted to choose Healing Ward Icon Healing Ward at Level 4, you should use it at the beginning of the team fight to get maximum value out of it. All these measures will not only protect the initiating Hero itself, but it will also make the player behind the Hero act more confidently because they know that someone is looking after them. After you have made sure that your initiator received some protection and the enemy will not retreat away from you, use your Deadly Reach Icon Deadly Reach to boost your damage and trigger your trait more frequently. Keep track of your cooldowns and always use Breath of Heaven before any other ability.

3.2. Team Fights Started By The Enemy Team

Although Kharazim is usually played as a rather offensive Supporter, he is also capable of protecting his allies very efficiently. If one of your teammates gets caught off guard by an enemy Warrior or melee Assassin, you should immediately try to assist them using Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash to quickly position yourself next to them. We find Quicksilver Icon Quicksilver to be a very efficient talent when trying to help allies retreat away from the enemy team as it will increase both Kharazim's and his target's movement speed significantly.

Next, we suggest using either Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield, Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven, or even Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm on a threatened target, depending on how severely they have been injured. Remember that the bonus movement speed from Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven serves as an extremely powerful disengage tool as well.

3.3. Skirmishes

Skirmishes are fights in which neither of the teams really commits to going all in. Most of the time you will encounter skirmishes around Map Objectives or in the vicinity of Mercenary Camps. Unlike in team fights, when playing Kharazim you may want to hold on to your skills and see how events are going to unfold. Keep your Basic Abilities, Breath of Heaven Icon Breath of Heaven in particular, ready in case one of your allies gets caught a little too deep. Save your Deadly Reach Icon Deadly Reach and talent-based abilities, notably Protective Shield Icon Protective Shield and Storm Shield Icon Storm Shield until the real battle begins and only use Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm as a last resort to potentially prevent an ally from dying. A skirmish will probably end up in a team fight sooner or later if neither one of the teams decides to retreat.

4. Summary of Tips and Tricks

  • Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash is a very useful ability that provides a lot of mobility to Kharazim as it allows him to jump to Heroes, Minions, and Mercenaries. Keep in mind, however, that he cannot dash to Structures.
  • Smashing your Q-button repeatedly may cause Radiant Dash Icon Radiant Dash to use both charges on the same target.
  • Deadly Reach Icon Deadly Reach causes Kharazim's traits to trigger very frequently. Use this to your advantage to deliver some quick burst damage (if you chose Iron Fists Icon Iron Fists) and healing (if you chose Transcendence Icon Transcendence).
  • Attack Walls and Structures to trigger Transcendence Icon Transcendence while pushing to provide additional healing to nearby allies.
  • Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm is a powerful Heroic Ability, however it clashes with any form of healing and shielding, so make sure you do not use any other supportive abilities on your chosen target.
  • Peaceful Repose Icon Peaceful Repose is a recommended talent especially for less experienced Kharazim players, as it makes missing Divine Palm Icon Divine Palm much more forgiving.
  • Echo of Heaven Icon Echo of Heaven provides a second heal after a short delay. However, the second heal does not provide bonus movement speed. Also, Echo of Heaven's second heal does not trigger the crowd control removal from Soothing Breeze Icon Soothing Breeze.
  • Seven-Sided Strike Icon Seven-Sided Strike is particularly strong in a one-on-one situation and makes Kharazim a very dangerous duelist.
