Frost Death Knight 7.3

Recommended Posts

The guides are currently being updated for 7.1.5! I just wanted to leave a few notes for all of our users that might be getting ready to leave a comment:

  • Some pages do not require updates. The "Last Updated" stat does not mean the page is out of date, it might just not have needed any changes. If you feel that it does, leave a comment telling us what needs changing and why.
  • The process will not happen immediately - some guides will be updated faster than others simply due to the number of resources available. Be patient, they'll be ready when you need them!
  • There might be some continuity errors when making small adjustments to large guide pages. If you do find one of these, just let us know in the comments and we'll get it fixed ASAP.
  • "Why have you not taken into account X buff to X ability?" - remember, just because something got buffed, it doesn't mean it is now automatically better than the other options!

As always, we want to thank you all for being patient while we get things updated and I'm always available to help you all if you need it :)

So did anyone try out the BoS build yet? Or seen any logs?

Also, in the BoS build, is Horn of Winter really better than Freezing Fog? Especially with the Perseverance of the Ebon Martyr.

If you have the legendary belt and wrist and seal of necrofantasia and want to use Breath of Sindragosa build. Which legendary should i put aside for Necrofantasia to give the highest dps values?

Best thing to do would be to sim your character for an exact answer. It would also probably depend on the fight. On fights where you can get a final, "extra" PoF in for the execute phase, the bracers are probably better, while for fights without the belt is.

Anyway, simming will get the best answer from a straight DPS PoV.

Personally, no, not yet.

It's listed as better since it gives you the chance to prevent BoS from dropping.

Been doing some testing since the patch dropped with concerns to the Ebon Martyr helm. My findings:

As was specifically mentioned in the patch notes, the damage increase from the helm persists for a short time after Remorseless Winter ends. This was the case before the patch as well, but they seem to have increased the grace period from 2 seconds to 3 seconds, at least from my testing.

This said, I did notice a short period right as you activate Remorseless that the damage increase is NOT active. I cannot say that this is a consistent problem, but it is one I have noted to happen, and so this extended duration may be to compensate for the delayed activation of the Legendary Power.

One interesting and important thing to note, is that with good RNG while using Gathering Storm, I am capable of achieving 100% uptime on Remorseless Winter. Even with Bad RNG, Gathering Storm typically increases the duration to about 14-15 seconds. This obviously Drastically increases the power of this helm.

With the Raid Tier, the power of this helm will only be increased further, and the 4 piece compensates for the extra GCDs spent on HBs

My testing also seems to indicate that with this helm and increased uptime of Remorseless Winter, Freezing Fog may indeed be superior to Frozen Pulse. This will undoubtedly be true with the Tier set, but may also be true now with this helm.

Very possible that this is to account for different GCD lengths.

For the rest of your findings, did you by any chance log your testing? I'd love to have something to pass on to the reviewer with your comments.

Ran EN m today with BoS build. Seems absolutely fantastic. From what I saw on warcraftlogs, BoS is the way to go in 7.1.5, since most of the Nighthold fights are "BoS-friendly" from what I understood.

I would suggest that you add Seal of Necrofantasia as BiS or at least #2 for BoS build, arguably beaten only by Koltira's. Tovravon's doesn't seem too strong for BoS, but more testing might be required.

Another point for future research - how good are T19 set bonuses for BoS and does 4p warrant a switch to Freezing Fog from Horn of Winter?

I think something that has to be taken into account with this is whether or not SoN actually grants a benefit for the fight at hand. Let's say it allows you 2 additional uses of ERW - that'd be amazing, right? If it allows you only 1 additional use, I don't know how close it actually comes to Tovravon's. Like you said, I think time and testing prior to NH release will probably tell us this.

I'm actually not sure on this. I need to check with the writer when our T19 tier set evals are going up. Will let you know.

You get more than 2 rimeproccs n 30sec but Horn of Winter really can save your ass to get away from the 30rp mark if neccesary.

But then you really want to trade Horn for Freezing Fog? Frozen Pulse is like 10% of my overall dmg i dont think 30% more HB-dmg will fill that gap.

A small section has been added on the T19 bonuses. More detailed information will be released in the very near future once sims/testing is complete. Hope this preliminary info at least helps somewhat!

I'm having a hard time to understand how Obliteration is good for Cleave as stated in talents page:

" Against a single target as well when cleaving few targets for short amounts of time, Obliteration Icon Obliteration is the best choice. "

How come ? if you dont have Frostcythe Obliteration is only single target !

Any chance we can get a BIS list of nighthold trinkets, or at least a paragraph about which trinkets we should be going after?

Could you be a little more specific? The rune regeneration thing?

My money is on Convergence of Fates. It brings HRW's cd right to BoS cd (PPM is 6.0 for FDK). Another trinket I'd say can be worthwhile is Entwined Elemental Foci which could be basically Memento v 2.0. Others dont seem too thrilling.

Why does BoS use Gathering Storm over RA? wouldn't the extra Rp from that talent be better?

I would assume it's because the actual amount of RP generated basically is negligible in the BoS window. Also remember that many of your other talents in the BoS build actually work far better with GS than the ones in the other build.
