Greetings, friends.

I see there are a few inconsistencies in the guide if we factor in some of the latest sims done by the DK discord community.

Passing absolutely all of this on - thanks so much for bringing it to my attention :)

Thanks! I'd like to repeat again, the credit for the sims and spreadsheets goes to the wonderful DK discord community. I'm just a self-appointed messenger  to ensure Icy-Veins is the go-to web resource for FDKs :D

It's a great thing to do, so thanks for that! :)

The sims I linked have been updated with the latest changes to FDK. Nothing much changed. Short recap:

Relics - in terms of T20 the places have shifted a bit. For single target Ambidexterity now firmly takes the first place, beating Nothing but the Boots (second place), Cold as Ice (third place) and Blast Radius (fourth place) by a relatively small (4k dps vs BR at ilvl 955) margin. For AoE, as expected, Cold as Ice takes the first place, pretty much crushing the opposition (3,5k dps vs BR at ilvl 915). Blast Radius moves to a pretty firm second place, followed by Dead of Winter (a new challenger approaches!), Ambi and NbtB. If we take into consideration that unless you specifically prepare your Frost DK for a certain fight you'll need both ST and AoE damage, I would suggest to go for the highest ilvl relic with Ambi, CaI, NbtB or BR, without stacking too much in a single trait. To make things even easier, everything drops in ToS. You get Frost relics with Ambi and CaI from Harjatan and Mistress Sassz'ine, and nice Frost and Shadow relics with NbtB and BR from Kil'jaeden with increased ilvl.

For T19 relics the places are pretty much the same. Only thing that changed is that relics are now even closer to each other in terms of worth. Now's the time to replace your 890 BR relics for those 905 NbtB random drops :D

Legendaries haven't changed either.

PSA: ALWAYS sim yourself. Any and all sims are for reference only. Your situation might vary with your current stats/legendaries/preferred playstyle, etc.

So I'm having a problem: switching from 915 item level with nighthold 4x set to 922 item level with tomb 4x set I'm ending up doing a little less dps.

I knew I'd have liked the old set more, but not to the extent that even 7 item levels more makes me do worse, I felt very rune starved with new set; is it supposed to be that bad? I don't want to keep the old set forever!

Wanting to make sure i'm understanding the legendary update. Regardless of w/e build you have, cold heart and toravan's are "bis". even though seal and koltira's are pretty specific to the breath build?

As Breath of Sindragosa will be available more often than Hungering Rune Weapon, should I BoS when available, or do I have to wait 1 minute each time, to line up the two together, or is it better to use them both on cooldown (together when possible)?

A good way to test your performance somewhat is to post a log to the forums and let our moderators assess it. You can post it to the Death Knight forum.

Yeah, that's right, with T20. With T19, it's Koltira's + Cold Heart or SoN + Cold Heart.

This depends. Will it affect your overall performance in the fight? Will you miss a use of the ability? Take a 6 minute fight as an example:

  • 00:00 - You cast both.
  • 02:00 - You cast BoS.
  • 03:00 - You cast ERW.
  • 04:00 - You cast BoS.
  • 06:00 - Boss dies.

If you delay, you end up with exactly the same number of casts in the fight, since you end up casting BoS at 03:00 and 05:00. Had the fight gone on until 06:30, you would have lost a cast of BoS, since you delayed and it wouldn't be ready until 07:00. Hope this makes sense.

Did they change something in the new patch, the Breath build seems different. wasn't hungering rune weapon on a different tier?

Yeah, talent tiers have been swapped to make for some more competitive builds than only BoS.

is there any kind of BoS build, obviously, from what you guys are saying it's dead but was curious as to what it would be now or if you could point in a direction to find one, that would be awesome.

Yep, the alternatives have been buffed enough that it's simply not worth taking anymore.

Most likely RA - HoW - Icecap - N/A - N/A - GS - BoS. It's a pretty weak build, but it's what you'd most likely take for BoS.

Next, we're looking at the Priest changes that went live in the second Alpha build. We've got some updates to Discipline's Atonement, and some tweaks to Shadow Priest's Collapsing Void.
      Priest
Atonement - Power Word: Shield, Flash Heal, Renew, Power Word: Radiance, and Power Word: Life apply Atonement to your target for 15 sec. Your spell damage heals all targets affected by Atonement for 40% 35% of the damage done. Healing increased by 50% 70% when not in a raid. Collapsing Void - Each time Penance damages or heals, Entropic Rift is expanded by 1 yd. After Entropic Rift ends, it collapses, rapidly dealing [ 120% of Spell Power ] Shadow damage up to 8 times to a random enemy, based on how many times it expanded. Each time Penance damages or heals, Entropic Rift is empowered, increasing its damage and size by 20%. After Entropic Rift ends, it collapses, dealing [ 500% of Spell Power ] Shadow damage split between all nearby enemies.

We'd like to introduce you to a game-changing nameplate addon for Season 4 that's essential for excelling in Mythic+ dungeons. Here's Quazii Plater!
Tracking every mob and their abilities in Mythic+ can be overwhelming, but this addon excels by replacing standard mob nameplates and cast bars to enhance your gameplay.
Once installed, mobs with critical interrupts will display a thick orange cast bar, while less crucial ones will show a thinner yellow bar.

Mobs with less crucial interrupts will have a thinner yellow cast bar.

Additionally, any mobs that inflict heavy frontal cone damage are marked with an arrow and feature orange cast bars. A voice alert will also prompt you to move by announcing "front."

The addon further assists by indicating non-interruptible spells that require crowd control with a purple cast bar and a vocal "cc" alert.

For tanks, if you're not holding aggro, the nameplates of the mobs will turn red, quickly showing you which ones to target.

There's also a handy visual cue on the cast bar, surrounded by a green border, signaling when you can interrupt an ability and your interrupt skill is off cooldown.

      Ready to try it out?
You can download Quazii Plater here.
For setup assistance, watch Quazii's comprehensive video guide.
Quazii has also created a Mythic+ cheatsheet that details all critical abilities for Season 4 dungeons, available in a text format.
If you appreciate Quazii's contributions, consider supporting him on Patreon.
