Hello guys, keep in mind that this guide is for pre-patch only and everything can change at any time. Also the gear list right now isn't accurate, i'd try to put a *BiS* these days. Special thanks once again to TheQ and Mini who plays in Midwinter.

Not really. I'm running sims every day and will be updating as SimC continues to improve, but right now, it's a bit meh. I'll put disclaimers everywhere.

Trinkets most likely would be Skull of War + the BoA trinket for demonds, vs non demon Skull of War and the Alchemy trinket. Anzu's Cursed Plume could be used too, like i said i'd put a list these days, the gear & trinkets require some testing.

What do you guys think about Death Strike vs Death Coil as a Runic Power spender?

Also you forgot to include runic power spenders entirely in the rotation. Or is it actually a DPS increase to omit them and only use them when you use Dark Arbiter?

It seemed to me like spending Runic Power to activate Runic Corruption would be beneficial but oh well. Would we want to only use it to prevent capping Runic Power? I'd assume we want to pool RP for Dark Arbiter, but when it's on cooldown and/or not about to come off CD, would it be beneficial to just burn RP or to keep it high, spending it only to prevent capping?

Not worth it, Death Coil scales with Mastery while Death Strike doesn't. Death Coil costs 10 less runic power and on top of that restoring energy to your pet. Death Strike doesn't work with neither of the Shadow Infusion / Necrosis / Infected Claws talents.

That's what I thought too, but some people are dead set in thinking that Death Strike is better than using Death Coil just because it dealt more damage per runic power when they tried it on target dummies.

Well there were rumours that Death Strike is better to be used during Dark Arbiter duration but that wasn't the case.

Hey Tegu,

First and foremost: I'm no Genius nor great theorycrafter so everything i write here is personal experience.

May i ask you, how Ebon Fever is better than Bursting Sores in ST?

The wounds are more or less our strongest source of dps and should therefore be pushed further, right?

In Addition to that i have to mention that, Castigator is much stronger than Clawing Shadows with the Skull of War Trinket. If (!) a certain amount of Base Crit is given. The synergy with Pestilent Pustules is also better.

That synergy also applies for Infected Claws as festering wounds are applied quite reliably with the t18 4-set.

The dps difference between the recommended choices and the crit style play was always ~ 5-7k for me with crit in favor.

In hope of a quick response,

Ebon

Hello Ebon, i just discussed the exact same topic with perhaps your friend ? Anyway in theory Bursting Sores should be the talent picked for SIngle Target if tuned right but on beta it wasn't the case and  even if additional target was appearing  Ebon Fever was getting out of hand. The wounds were not even close  to our strongest source of dmg for single target, Clawing Shadows was around 30 % followed by 20 % Virulent Plague, pets and then Festering Wound. The only boss worth testing that theory you've got is Zakuun which is  1 boss out of 13 but i wouldn't change my gear just for that one even if somehow turns to be better than Ebon Fever. Not to mention the fact that if you get seeds you can dps with Clawing Shadows. Keep in mind that most work is been done without sims and based on beta testing so everything is tuned around level 110 and having Artifact Weapon. The logs that i would get tonight and tomorrow are gonna help with clearing things out and i would keep the guide updated for you guys on daily basis. Your feedback is very much appreciated

i plan to reroll a dk for legion (currently ret...). so I have no experience with the dk whatsoever and I was wondering what racial [H] ability would be the best (in combination with frost and uh).  all I could find was an old sim on the mmochampion forums... blood elf > orc. is blood elf still the way to go ?

(I know the differnce is small but hey, if it's for free why not take it ^^)

Unless they change something with the racials i would be playing Blood Elf, helps a lot especially with Dark Arbiter.

Update: The Stat Weights  for Unholy were updated and should be fine for pre-patch. Enchants & Gems also changed to Haste > Mastery.

what will my multistrike gems convert to?

I think they did convert to Haste on Beta so it's probably Haste ;)

wouldn't blood fury be better since it increases the attack power and it's duration is also 15 sec.

also do I ge it right, dark arbiter casts Val'kyr Strike witch deals 7*AP Shadow damage and the Val'kyr's AP is 33% of my AP ?

Why is Haste more important than Mastery now ?

Hi Tegu - great work on the guide.

I have 2 questions:

Firstly, how did you decide that haste is better than mastery? I am not questioning it, just wondering how you guys came to that conclusion.

Secondly, I was testing on PTR last week and I did a lot of single target DPS tests (on the raidboss dummy in ebon hold). I came to the conclusion that infected claws was the best ST DPS talent in that row instead of reducing the CD on dark transformation. What I noticed was that in a typical 3 minute run I was getting out ~15-20 more clawing shadows/scourge. It wasnt a massive DPS gain but it was noticeable. Probably a moot point until Blizz finishes tuning anyway, but I found it interesting.

About the racials, Blood elf is just too strong not just because of the 20 rp evey 1.5min but also the silence you are going to be using in Mythic+ and Raids on top of that +1% critical strike chance.

Regarding Dark Arbiter yes, it should be 7*AP Shadow damage, 33% AP and increasing damage 1 % per runic power you spend also stacking additively, not multiplicatively.

Because with Haste you do significantly more single target damage, mastery boosts your AoE damage.

Because the stat weights were simmed multiple times and the results were clear that Haste  > Mastery for single target Mastery excels at AoE.

Before the 10 % nerf to our pet's Sweeping Strike/Gas Cloud - Shadow Infusion was around 4,5k above Infected Claws and now even with the 10 % nerf Shadow Infusion simming higher, on top of that t18 2P gives 20 % dmg boost to your pets which is huge and  makes Shadow Infusion even more attractive.

Thanks.

Talking about set bonuses, what do you think about T19? I havent had a chance to try it but in theory I think the 4p might not be very helpful and in some cases detrimental. for e.g. you are setting up for (4-5 seconds away) soul reaper so you get 3 stacks of wound on target, then you get sudden doom or capped RP so you need to fire off death coil but it pops your wounds (50% chance lol?) now you need to spend another festering strike to add more wounds but this means you wont have enough runes to cast 3 scourge strike back to back (which you need to do on consecutive GCD's to make the 5 second window) and you cant afford to wait for runes to recharge in that short window.

I wish the 4p was a chance to ADD a wound not pop one... am I overlooking something about the 4p that makes it good or am i right that it will be a pain in the a$$.

@CrusRuss i haven't really thought about t19 yet but looking at it right now  i find it really disappointing imo. They need to buff Festering Wounds  but even then  the tier doesn't really look all that attractive,  they can also change it so we are gonna have to wait and see how things turn out to be.

The Horde story in Battle for Azeroth culminates in the Zandalar Forever scenario, where players help King Rastakhan defend the Horde capital before it gets destroyed by Zul.
      This article contains spoilers!
The Zandalar Forever scenario becomes available after you complete all the major storylines in Zandalar (The Throne of Zuldazar, The Dark Heart of Nazmir, Secrets in the Sands & A Bargain of Blood). Completing it rewards the The Final Seal and the Zandalar Forever! achievement.
      TL;DR
In Nazmir, you learn about Blood Trolls that worship G'huun (the main boss of Uldir). In Zuldazar, you learn about King Rastakhan and Prophet Zul's betrayal. You help Rastakhan end his evil plans. Vol'dun's storyline revolves around the Sethrak and their successful effort to summon Mythrax to this world. The Horde story in Zuldazar culminates in the Zandalar Forever scenario, where G'huun orders Zul to shatter the final seal in order to free him with the help of Mythrax, the Unraveller. Zandalar Forever Scenario
In the final scenario, Dazar'alor is under attack from all sides. The Blood Trolls and the Sethrak are closing in and players help King Rastakhan reach Zul, while his daughter, Princes Talanji, holds off Mythrax. The scenario is still a work-in-progress, but you get a pretty good idea about what to expect.
      TL;DR
G'huun orders Prophet Zul to break the final seal (destroy the pyramid) to free him. An in-game cinematic is missing, but we know that Zul's going to be resurrected and we'll encounter him in Uldir.

Battle for Azeroth Alpha Build 26476 added high-resolution maps of all new zones of Kul Tiras and Zandalar.
Our Alpha Build 26476 coverage includes:
Blood Elf & Human Racial Nerfs Changing Skin Color in Barber Shop Dark Iron Dwarves & Mag'har Orcs New Azerite Traits Latest Talent Changes The Burning of Teldrassil Intro Kul Tiras (Drustvar / Tiragarde Sound / Stormsong Valley)

      Zandalar (Nazmir / Vol'dun / Zuldazar)

The Burning of Teldrassil intro is now available on Battle for Azeroth Alpha. The most recent build added a portion of the scenario that results in the Battle for Lordaeron.
      The Burning of Teldrassil Intro
It all starts with Anduin offering the initial quest in Stormwind Keep.
      A Short-Lived Peace
      <Player Name>
As the Legion's presence wanes from our world, a new threat has arisen. It is with a heavy heart that I must ask you to lay your life down for the Alliance once more.
I have received a disturbing message from our operatives stationed in Orgrimmar. It seems that the Warchief has already began spinning the gears of war.
I await your arrival at Stormwind Keep to discuss matters further.
You, as my father's champion, have fought bravely in the name of the Alliance time and time again. For that, I owe you a great debt of gratitude.
      The Horde Uprising
Reports have indicated that the Horde is mobilizing an army towards Silithus. Given the potential that azerite has to change the face of war, it should come as no surprise that the Warchief would want to lay her claim on it.
The only surprise is that it has begun so soon. The Horde and the Alliance have both suffered unimaginable losses on Argus.
Speak with Mathias Shaw. I want you to oversee Stormwind's presence in Silithus.
      <Master Mathias Shaw appears>
      A Disturbance in Ashenvale
The Horde! They diverted at the North fork of the Barrens! They have marched on Ashenvale!
Most of Malfurion's troops have already set sail for Silithus, but Darnassus has sent its city guards to help reinforce Astranaar. Their captain goes by the name of Delaryn Summermoon.
Find her, <Player Name>. Hold the city for as long as you can. King Anduin and I will send a fleet as soon as we can muster.
Now you must take the boat to Darnassus from Stormwind Harbor and fly from Rut'theran Village to Astranaar. Once you enter Astranaar, you'll see the village on fire and notice a bunch of Night Elf corpses that have been poisoned by Rogues.
      The Light of Elune
My sisters lie slain on the soft earth of Ashenvale. We are trained to expect losses in battle, but I have never seen something so horrific -- something so -- cowardly. The Horde have sunk to a new low in this war.
We do not have time to grieve, but we are not savages as the horde have proven to be.
Please, <Player Name>, will you help me say a prayer to Elune so that we may honor the fallen? Their wisps deserve the light of her blessing.
The next step is to honor the bodies of the fallen soldiers in Astranaar. This quest is really simple. All you need to do is to click six corpses.
      A Soft Glow
This light of the wisps... it is all around us. Why does the forest awaken?
I hear... something. That sounds -- could it be our Shan'do?
      Quickly, <Player Name>, Malfurion beckons!
You go to Twilight Vale, where you find fallen Orgrimmar Raiders, Sylvanas and Malfurion. Malfurion roots everyone and the Horde soldiers try to rush through the wall of wisps and attack, but get killed in the process.
Malfurion informs you that you can pass through the wall unharmed while Sylvanas escapes.
      To Darnassus!
The Warchief has come for us. I knew this day would come.
Our forces have been gathered in Darnassus, though many of them have already set sail for Silithus. Meet with Shandris Feathermoon and alert her of the Warchief's presence.
Elune be with you, <Player Name>.
      <Captain Delarym Summermoon appears>
You learn that most of the Alliance troops have been sent to Silithus and the Alliance may be outnumbered and not able to defend Teldrassil. Go to Darnassus and find Shandris Feathermoon to tell her that the Horde have invaded Darkshore.
The intro ends here, with the requirements to mount a fey dragon and slay 50 Horde soldiers.

You can visit the Barber Shop and change your skin color for 300 Gold and 54 Silver in Battle for Azeroth.
The option to alter your skin color is only available to older races and the four Allied Races right now on Battle for Azeroth Alpha. We tried Humans, Orcs and Void Elves. All races could change their skin color for 300 Gold and 54 Silver.

We noticed that Dark Iron Dwarves and Mag'har Orcs were not able to change their skin color in the Barber Shop for now. The option wasn't there. Hopefully, it's just a bug that will be fixed in a future build, because both Allied Races just became available for playtesting on Alpha.

      Who We Are
Tequila Sundown is a mythic raid team formed within the <Karma Horde> guild on US-Stormreaver. Lead by a husband/wife team with high-level raiding experience dating back to WotLK, we're a "positively determined" progression team that maintains a light-hearted atmosphere while tackling mythic difficulty content. We're mature adults with jobs and family seeking like-minded players who have a passion for the game but want to avoid the needless angst or drama that often gets associated with progression raiding. We log on to have fun - so come have some fun with us!

      A Team Within a Community
Our raid team is one of three within the larger guild of <Karma Horde>, which was formed back during WotLK. As such, the guild and Discord are very active and social. There are always people around online and in-game. The community atmosphere is welcoming and friendly to players of all levels. The guild enforces a Code of Conduct that has zero tolerance for hate/offensive speech.
We are always looking to add players with a friendly personality and lots of passion for the game. We want players who are going to log in on non-raid nights and be down for all the other things we're into: pushing mythic+, doing world quests, PVP shenanigans, achievement hunting, hyper-competitive fishing.. there's so much to do and so many ways to enjoy the game. This is our favorite hobby and we'd like to play with you if it is yours, too.

      Progression Goals
We are 6/11 Mythic, Heroic AOTC Antorus progression.
We strive for a fun environment that takes the challenges of mythic seriously and giving the content the respect it deserves. Our aim is, as all mythic teams, full clear of content but with always keeping the friendly spirit of camaraderie alive. Performance matters, but so does staying positive and finding the fun in the difficulty of a raid. We do not require mythic raid experience to join our team but we do expect mythic-level dedication and accountability from all of our raiders. You must be able to take constructive criticism and have ownership over your level of play, and be willing to put in the effort to be a contribution to the team.

      Raid Days/Times
      Our mandatory raids are:
      Tuesdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Thursdays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
      Optional:
      Sundays 8:45pm PT - 11:45pm PT
Sundays are for farming the previous raid difficulty.

      Recruitment Needs
Healer: We need to add a healer to our core. Holy Paladin preferred.
DPS: We are looking for DPS with the gear/experience to contribute immediately. Will consider all specs but we currently lack a dedicated Mage, Elemental Shaman, and Windwalker Monk. Bonus points for good healing offspec.
