The main focus of this week's PTR build is itemization. Class sets and Legendary items have received updates.

The most recent changes are in red and strikethrough text indicates old values (from the September 13 build). Read more about balance goals in Patch 2.6.1 here and don't forget to check out sets granted by Haedrig's Gift in Season 12.

In order to test Necromancer changes, you will need to have purchased the Necromancer in the live game. The ability to purchase the class on the PTR has been disabled.

        • Has been redesigned:
        • Deal damage equal to 20% of your recent Critical Hits to enemies within 20 yards every 1 second.
        • Note: Bloodshed caused performance issues when encountering high enemy density, particularly when combined with Whirlwind, Pain Enhancer, and Gem of Efficacious Toxin.
    • Ground Stomp
      • Jarring Slam
        • Added a maximum threshold on the number of health globes that can spawn in a given time.
  • Crusader Skills

      • Limitless
        • Has been redesigned:
        • Increase the damage of Blessed Hammer to 640% weapon damage as Holy and increase its area of effect by 20 yards.
        • Note: The extra projectiles created by this rune were causing performance issues in cases with high enemy density.
  • Monk Skills
    • Tempest Rush
      • Flurry
        • Reduced the maximum number of stacks from 500 to 100
  • Necromancer Skills
    • Command Skeletons
      • Commanding your Skeletal Warriors will break crowd control effects on them
      • Skeletal Warriors will no longer die after taking too many hits
      • Design Philosophy: When we were first designing Command Skeletons, we wanted to capture the feeling of being an undead commander by having skeletons regularly spawn around the Necromancer and charge into battle during combat. It created a cool visual, but as the class evolved through Set bonuses and Legendary powers, it became clear that this visual began to hinder gameplay for some builds. Skeletal Warriors now have the same defenses as all other pets in the game.

        • Resource cost reduction stacks granted from this rune will now stack and are no longer overridden from multiple casts.
    • Simulacrum
      • Added a glow to the skill icon to indicate when Simulacrum is active.
    • Skeletal Mage
      • This skill will now display the duration of the oldest mage raised as a buff in addition to the total number of mages active
      • Design Philosophy: This change is largely to provide transparency to players on the duration of their mage armor. This will be especially useful to players using the Bones of Rathma set. It’s our goal that players will no longer feel compelled to refresh their Skeletal Mage counter when they’re already at max.

      • Can now be cast while moving
    • Army of the Dead
      • Frozen Army
        • The pulsing damage from this rune has been spread out
        • Design Philosophy: This was done to ensure enemies within range are evenly hit and to better align with the visual. This will result in more targets being hit more consistently for the stated weapon damage amount.
  • Necromancer Passives
    • Fueled By Death
      • The movement speed bonus from this passive can now exceed the 25% cap
    • Life from Death
      • Added a maximum threshold on the number of health globes that can spawn in a given time.
  • Witch Doctor Skills
    • Soul Harvest
      • Adding a stack or refreshing Soul Harvest now refreshes all stacks of Soul Harvest.
  • Witch Doctor Passives
    • Creeping Death
      • Increased the duration of Haunt, Locust Swarm, and the damage amplification of Piranhas when this passive is active from 3600 to 14400 16800 seconds
      • Note: There is currently a bug preventing this passive from affecting Piranhas; this will be fixed in an upcoming PTR patch
  • Wizard Skills
    • Arcane Orb
      • Frozen Orb
        • Create an orb of frozen death that shreds an area with ice bolts, dealing 393% 950% weapon damage as Cold
        • Increased projectile travel distance from 30 to 45 40
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed an issue which prevented Army of the Dead from sometimes triggering when the player is immediately afflicted by a monster’s crowd control after casting it
    • Fixed an issue where enemy monsters could heal themselves when striking another monster afflicted by Leech
    • Fixed a bug which caused Skeletal Mages to sometimes spawn up in the air
    • Fixed an issue where the firewall left behind by Arcane Orb – Scorch was not dealing damage
    • Fixed an issue which caused Skeletal Mages to lose their target when players used Command Skeletons to attack the same target
    • Fixed an issue which caused connection issues when players used a channeling skill while attempting to force move at the same time
    • Fixed an issue where your pets would double dip from the damage bonus granted by Wolf Companion
    • (PTR Only) Fixed an issue with Battle Rage - Bloodshed where the damage from critical hits was not being scaled by the proc coefficient of the power doing damage
    • Fixed an issue where the advanced tooltip for Bone Armor - Dislocation did not correctly state the rune did Poison damage
    • Fixed an issue where Furious Charge would inherit the elemental damage type on your weapon when Vile Ward was equipped, as opposed to the damage type of the rune you chose
    • Fixed an issue where Bone Armor: Dislocation did not apply the movement and attack speed reduction provided by Rigor Mortis
    • Fixed an issue where Monk players could reset the Blood is Power cooldown for Necromancers allowing them to gain more cool down reduction than intended
    • Fixed an issue where Creeping Death was not correctly affecting the duration of the Piranha’s damage debuff

      • Dayntee’s Binding
        • You gain an additional 40–50% damage reduction when there is an enemy afflicted by your Decrepify any of your curses.
      • Defiler Cuisses
        • Your Bone Spirit's damage is increased by 75–100% 400-500% for every second it is active.
      • Fate’s Vow
        • Army of the Dead now deals an additional 200-250% damage and gains the effect of the Unconventional Warfare rune.
      • Golemskin Breeches
        • Your Golem's damage is increased by 100–125% and You take 30% less damage while it your Golem is alive and the cooldown on Command Golem is reduced by 20-25 seconds.
      • Leger’s Disdain
        • Grim Scythe deals an additional 7–10% 65-80% damage for each point of essence it restores.

        • Your cold skills reduce the movement speed of enemies by 30%. In addition, your movement speed is increased by 4–5% 8-10% for 5 seconds. Maximum 5 stacks.
      • Maltorius’ Petrified Spike
        • Bone Spear now costs 40 Essence and deals 375–450% 550-700% increased damage.
      • Mask of Scarlet Death
        • When paired with the Revive: Purgatory rune, the mega-revived monster will drop the same number of corpses were used to create it on death.
        • This item will now attempt to give preference to the strongest monster to become the mega-revive when selecting a group of corpses.
      • Nayr’s Black Death
        • Each different poison skill you use increases the damage of your poison skills by 50–65% 75-100% for 15 seconds.
      • Scythe of the Cycle
        • Your Secondary skills deal 250–300% 350-400% additional damage while Bone Armor is active but reduce the remaining duration of Bone Armor by 4 seconds.
      • Steuart’s Greaves
        • You gain 40–50% 75-100% increased movement speed for 2 10 seconds after using Blood Rush.
      • The Johnstone
        • Each corpse consumed in the Land of the Dead Grants a 50 stacks of Macabre Knowledge when Land of the Dead expires. Macabre Knowledge increases the damage of Corpse Lance and Corpse Explosion by 150–200% while outside Land of the Dead.

        • Firebats deals 150–200% 250-300% increased damage to enemies affected by Locust Swarm or Piranhas.

        • While channeling Arcane Torrent, Disintegrate, or Ray of Frost, the damage of your Arcane Power Spenders is increased by 125-150% and you also cast one of your other damaging Arcane Power Spenders every second.
      • Halo of Karini
        • You take 45–60% 60-80% less damage for 3 4 5 seconds after your Storm Armor electrocutes an enemy more than 30 15 yards away
      • Nilfur's Boast
        • Increase the damage of Meteor by 200% 600%. When your Meteor hits 3 or fewer enemies, the damage is increased by 275–350% 675-900%
      • Orb of Infinite Depth
        • Each time you hit an enemy with Explosive Blast your damage is increased by 4% 8-10% and your damage reduction is increased by 15% 20% for 6 seconds. This effect can stack up to 4 times.
      • Ranslor’s Folly
        • Energy Twister does 225-300% more damage and periodically pulls in lesser enemies within 30 yards.

            • Each enemy you hit with Bone Spear, Corpse Lance or Corpse Explosion reduces your damage taken by 2%, up to a maximum of 50%. Lasts 15 seconds.

            • Each corpse you consume grants you an Empowered Bone Spear charge that increases the damage of your next Bone Spear by 3000% 4000%. In addition, Corpse Lance and Corpse Explosion damage is increased by 1500% 2000%.

            • Note: This set bonus is being temporarily disabled to fix an issue with the set. It will be re-enabled in a later PTR patch.
          • Note: The damage bonus for you against enemies affected with Necrosis causes performance issues when encountering high density. This change is not intended to be a nerf and, when coupled with the six-piece change, should be a net buff for the complete set. This change should not change the gameplay style of this set.

            • When Haunt lands on an enemy already affected by Haunt, it instantly deals 120 480 560 seconds worth of Haunt damage.

So unbelievably disappointed with this. I so desperately don't want to play Archon Wiz, but I want to play Wiz. Sucks that the most competitive build will just be Archon crap again.

Same here, perhaps there'll be more balance changes before it goes live, and hopefully in favor of the other wiz sets. I'm not a huge fan of finery because of those odd grifts with few elites (Although this is still alleviated in groups because of pull monks etc) or Delsere because of time bubble micro (Otherwise it's fine, but it's just so annoying if somehow a small group is outside of the bubble and you do 0% dps until you wrap em in a bubble again).

 

I really really love frozen orb (My d2 favorite) so seeing that getting buffed quite a lot was nice to see, but I still don't like the Delsere mechanics.

 

Now seeing Vizier staff get nerfed as well means it is also harder for Talrasha to keep up. The nerf isn't that big but its not like Talrasha was a top tier contestant in the first place.

 

The orb of infinite depth was buffed at least, which is an extremely dramatic buff (60% DR to 80% DR, basically doubling the toughness). If you can combine that with Halo of Karini which also got its toughness doubled you are looking at the most tanky build in the entire game. But if you can't get an Explosive Blast build to go above tier 90 (I'm not sure how high it is on PTR right now with the buff, probably 80-85?) then toughness doesn't really matter. "Guys I can survive moltens on tier 90" while every other builds and their mother are doing 110+ and laughing at your numbers.

 

TL;DR: If you can somehow spend a slot in your top tier build for EB and the orb its amazing; but archon doesn't use that anyways and that's the only top tier contender from the looks of it.

As of the set of changes prior to this one, there was a 99 clear with a Firebird's Explosive Blast build. He had a Primal main hand, but people will have that on live too. Seems like it could be kind of competitive, depends on the other changes.

That's quite a bit higher than I expected, still I wonder how well he'd do with his paragon levels as Archon. And with these set changes, dropping from 250% to 200% will cause a drop of ~1-2 grifts.

 

Chantodo got a very considerable buff in the PTR overall and the latest changes to vyr could potentially push it into mid/end of the 110 bracket.

 

That said, I will probably try out a way to get deathwish to work one way or another with one of the other sets even though it's competing directly with other great weapons and the kanai cube slot. Perhaps a glorified EB build. /shrug

Oh, yeah, he's completely blown that EB out of the water. He's done 110+ with other builds, I think DMO Frozen Orb and Firebird's Meteor were top.

      Season 15 is now live, but players are not receiving two Horadric Caches from bounties as intended. Blizzard yesterday acknowledged they've pushed out a hotfix to fix the issue for PC. Console players, however, will need to wait a bit longer before the fix is deployed to PS4 and Xbox.
      Season 15 started on Friday and the second Themed Season titled "Boon of the Horadrim" doubles the amount of Horadric Caches from Bounties.

      Why is Patch 2.6.1 a Great Time to Come Back?
      Patch 2.6.1 sees one of the biggest rebalancing efforts to the game since Patch 2.4, the strongest content Patch of the Reaper of Souls cycle. It builds on every good foundation set by it (class diversity, options for underused skills, the introduction of mechanically interesting items) and skyrockets it to post-2.6 damage standards. If you have ever craved a patch where multiple builds are considered top tier GR pushers and practically dozens of combinations are completely capable endgame farmers, this is the one.
      Basics Guides and Conquest Guides
      Before moving on to class impressions and recommendations, I just want to give a quick pointer to the new basics and conquest guides that I compiled recently. If you are new to the game, returning after a long break, or simply have friends that you want to get into Diablo, give those a read:

Sunwuko - Wave of Light Endgame Build  - This unique ranged Monk playstyle blows demons up in screen-wide, incinerating beams of searing light. Support Monk  - Group-oriented build that the entire team depends upon for healing, short-range monster pulls and damage reduction from regular attacks. Uliana - Seven-Sided Strike Endgame Build  - Widely regarded as the most satisfying build of the class, Uliana enriches the Seven-Sided Strike visual with Exploding Palm detonations. Rathma - Skeletal Mage - If you like to keep a tight rein on your minions with precise commands, leading the menagerie of undead at your side in a resource-fueled frenzy, this build is the one for you. Command Skeletons Inarius  - Turning the skeleton warriors into a vicious, unrelenting superior to Bane of the Stricken, this build is a Necromancer's one-way ticket to the absolute endgame heights. Generator Necromancer - a unique take on Inarius gameplay, focusing on lightning-fast scythe attacks and intensive resource interplay. Skeletal Mages Trag'Oul  - This is the alternate take on the Mages build, specializing in extreme speed farming, while still offering capable GR pushes. Arachyr - Firebats Endgame Build  - Requiring minimal upkeep, this build spins a circular, no-aiming-required wave of Firebats obliteration around you. Simple, neat, and utterly effective. Helltooth - Gargantuan Endgame Build  - This staple summoner build offers laid-back playstyle with automated minions, excellent sustain and protective options, and even some space for crowd control. Jade Harvester Endgame Build  - One of the oldest examples of interesting set execution, this melee spellcaster trades the safety of range and hexes for aggressive dives and DoT consumption. Zunimassa Gargantuan Endgame Build - This build thrives behind a thick wall of Fetish summons and is accompanied by lumbering, destructive Gargantuan brutes in a pure minion playstyle. DMO - Frozen Orb - Combining the Frozen Orb nostalgia of sorceresses past with the forgotten power of Slow Time wizardry, this build leaves enemies helpless, watching their frozen death creep ever closer. Energy Twister Wizard - a surprisingly undervalued, but horrifyingly potent on the time-bending, whirlwinding destruction from seasons of yore. Vyr Archon - The oldest devotees to the Archon playstyle: Vyr and its complementary Chantodo sets got an awesome boost of power in Patch 2.6.1. Tal Rasha - Explosive Blast - Aside from its distinct cannonade of arcane blasts, this build is very attractive to Wizards due to its ability to include Sage's set for materials farming. Arcane Torrent Tal Rasha - Spawning off the addition of Manald Heal this guide offers not one, but three very fun, tanky, non-Archon lightning variants to build around. Conclusion
      Despite the lack of changes over the past few months, Patch 2.6.1 remains one of the best states of Diablo 3 of all time, with multiple perfectly viable and endgame-worthy builds. Have fun and good luck in Season 15 - I leave you with my hour-long overview of some of my favorite builds in the latest patch!

      Season 15 is the second Themed Season in Diablo 3. While Season 14 doubled all Treasure Goblin spawns, Horadric Caches earned from bounties will be doubled in Season 15.

      Season 15 begins on September 21! For those among you who enjoy the fresh start a Season brings, we wanted to give you a glimpse of what to expect before you race out the gate as we continue to evolve and bring new things to Themed Seasons!

      New Season Theme
      Season 15 will continue the experiment we began last season with a new seasonal buff. This time, for the duration of Season 15, all Horadric Caches earned from bounties will be doubled. This means that each time you complete a full set of five bounties in an Act, you will receive not one, but two Horadric Caches, for twice the bounty rewards!
      There are a few things to keep in mind with this effect:
      The bonus cache does benefit from difficulty level; it is essentially as though you completed twice the bounties. The rewards inside the Horadric Caches are otherwise unaffected; drop rates or the amount of individual rewards have not been altered. The bonus cache earned from Challenge Rifts is not affected; this is a separate type of cache. Need a refresher on the rewards contained inside a Horadric Cache?       In addition to doubling up your Horadric spoils, other celebrations may spring up across the globe that celebrate the nature of this theme! Be sure to keep a close eye on Twitter and Facebook for more information as we move into Season 15!
      New Cosmetic Rewards
      As per tradition, Season 15 will introduce new cosmetic rewards, obtainable by progressing through the Season Journey.
      In addition to the Chest and Glove slots of the exclusive Conqueror Set, a brand-new series of portrait frames themed around the struggle of the Eternal Conflict will be available. For the eager cosmetic pet collectors, we thought you could use a hand. Belphegor is eager to keep a grip on your coin as it accompanies you on your adventures across Sanctuary!
      Season Journey Rewards
      If you’ve been diligently slaying demons for the past few Seasons and reached Conqueror in the Season Journey each time, you’ve surely accrued a few extra stash tabs by now. But players who have not yet earned a total of four stash tabs via the Season Journey can still unlock an additional one by completing the following tasks at the Conqueror tier:
      Finish a level 70 Nephalem Rift on Torment XIII difficulty within 5 minutes Level three Legendary Gems to level 55 Complete 2 Conquests this Season Kill Malthael at level 70 in 1 minute and 30 seconds on Torment XIII difficulty Slay Greed on Torment XIII difficulty Reach Greater Rift level 60 Solo Use Kanai’s Cube to augment an Ancient Legendary item with a level 50+ gem Use Kanai’s Cube to reforge a Legendary item Seasonal Conquests
      Speaking of Conquests, we’re rotating those, too! Returning for Season 15 is Sprinter/Speed Racer, where you’re challenged to complete all of Diablo III’s campaign from Act I to Act V at level 70 in under 1 hour! Next, we have Avarice/Avaritia, where all that glitters is gold—that is, if you can complete a 50 million gold streak outside of The Vault or its Inner Sanctum. Boss Mode/Worlds Apart is a different kind of race; destroy all the bosses in Diablo III at max level on Torment X before your 20-minute timer ends! A fan-favorite for those who enjoy unconventional builds, The Thrill/Superhuman requires completion of a Greater Rift level 45 to be completed Solo, but without any Set items equipped. Finally, Masters of the Universe/Masters of Sets stretches your class set knowledge by requiring a Mastery Rank completion of 8 different Set Dungeons; get ready to start collecting!
      Haedrig’s Gift
      Finally, the Class Sets available for completing certain chapters in the Season Journey courtesy of Haedrig’s Gift have rotated once more. We’ve listed the available Sets below. For those new to Seasons, here’s how it works:
      Completing Chapters 2, 3, and 4 of the Season Journey will reward you with three of Haedrig’s Gifts. Each Gift contains a few pieces from one of your Class Sets. Players can only unlock one Class Set in this manner per Season across Hardcore and Non-Hardcore, so choose wisely!
      The set you will receive depends on the Class of the character you’re playing when you open each Haedrig’s Gift. To collect a full Class Set, you’ll need to open all three on the same character.
      Here are the sets granted by Haedrig’s Gift in Season 15:

      Q: When do Seasons go live for players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4?
      A: Seasons go live for all console players globally at 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time, regardless of which regional version of the game you may have. Please note that Seasonal Leaderboards for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are still separate by hardware platform.
      Q: When will Season 15 end?
      A: We currently anticipate that Season 15 will be ending on Sunday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m. PDT in North America, 5:00 p.m. CEST in Europe, and 5:00 p.m. KST in Asia.
      Q: Why is the Season end date an estimate?
      A: Traditionally, we have given players two weeks’ notice prior to the ending of a Season. However, we’ve heard the community’s feedback, so going forward, we’ll be providing more comprehensive Season details in the Season First Look blogs. Please bear in mind that this date is an estimate and there is always a chance it may shift. While we will do our best to hit these target dates as closely as possible, we will continue to verify the Season end date at the two-week warning mark.
      Q: When are the non-Seasonal Leaderboards being wiped?
      A: Non-Seasonal Leaderboards are tied to what we call “Eras,” each of which lasts about 6–12 months. The most recent era began November 9. For more information on Eras, please see this post.
      Q: What will happen to older Seasonal and Era records?
      A: Starting with Season 10, we removed old personal bests from Season 1. When Season 15 arrives, we will remove old personal bests from Season 6, and so on. We will be doing the same for personal bests from the previous Era when the next one goes live.
      Seasonal Leaderboard records are not being cleared and will remain archived both in game and on our website.
