[Elemental] DPS problems

11 posts in this topic

Good day I'm having some problems fine tuning my toon, first ranged DPS so I'm quite unsure if I'm doing things correctly

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/draenor/Axarox/simple

Here's my toon, just tried moving some mastery to haste, see if it does something. On a test on a dummy I do around 121k with full mastery and 131k with a bit more in haste

I feel like I'm missing out , I didn't use BL or stormlash for the testing.

When comparing results to f.x. sim craft I get the result of 169k so I feel like I'm missing out on something

I only have a combatlog of a fight on horridon, so I'm not sure to what that's comparable

all help on this topic would be much appreciated

regards

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I was denied access to that log. Double check to see if it's a private log, and try again.

It might help people if you try to describe the order in which you cast spells, in general.

As well as that, can you tell us what your opening cast sequence usually is?

That might help get you some constructive answers! :)

ofc well here's how I start,

fire elemental totem

flame shock

lava burst

elemental blast

blood fury

ascendance

go nuts on lava burst

overall I try to keep the uptime of flameshock as high as I can

then lava burst and elemental blast on CD

filler is lighthing bolts and earthshock on 7 (I tend to forget to use that so I dont miss the flameshock reably time)

on filler periods I throw down a searing totem

thanks for the help guys :)

From what I know about Elemental, your rotation seems to at least be in the right area. I would suggest that perhaps spending some time recording your rotation and watching it (to pick up your mistakes) and then re-playing the same thing would help. Looking out for those mistakes would probably help you improve overall, even if nobody can give you any other ways to improve!

horridon dps has a lot to do with tank skill in grouping adds and pacing of the fight. theres some major damage buffs near the end, its just overall not a good fight to measure dps on. in tot durumu and twins are probably the most straight forward. if you can get in a flex SoO, iron juggernaut, malkorok and siegecrafter are very easy to just sit on boss and in all of them you hero on pull.

Did garrosh tonight, 3 times haha, and I could see my dps raise after every try going from 92k -> 118 k -> ending in 138k (142k according to recount) and I can sort of be happy with this, specially by the fact that chain lightning is only 15% , was more focused on single target dps

I logged those fights so I have them here:

Mostly the changes in gameplay was,

Better to do something than trying to have your priority 100%

position yourself better in fights

while casting plan your next attacks etc.

All of this seems to be lack of experience of caster :)

thanks all for your help

yeah as a caster your position off the boss can be almost anywhere, so where you choose to be is very important. and as elemental, more than anything, Always Be Casting.

Sorry that this post is not entirely useful to your initial request, but just in case you had 3 "tries" of Garrosh in LFR difficulty, keep in mind that you likely get a determination buff after every wipe that boosts your stats. So, the increased numbers may not be accurate. Of course, if you had 3 separate attempts (or on non-LFR difficulty), you can disregard this post.

The title is pretty self-explanatory... but anyways, I feel like I've been underperforming a LOT in heroic nighthold lately, I'm not sure if it's stats, if it's talents, rotation or anything, so any help would be appreciated! :D

I just can't find the answer.  Why are elemental shamans who  take ascendance as their final talent not supposed to use earth shock during ascendance?  earth shock does 920% spell power.  lava burst does 275%.  If you overload with lava burst you do an additional 206% totaling 481% spell power.  if you have 25% crit during ascendance lava burst is now 343% spell power and the overload is 257% equaling a total of 600% spell power.  you are missing out on a instant cast spell for 320%  additional spell power worth of damage; and quite often times twice during ascendance.  that's 640% spell power which is more than a lava burst cast during ascendance with 25% crit.
I currently have 18% crit chance and during ascendance I'm critting lava burst at 434k (not extremely well geared I know, but the ratio is still present).  earth shock at 100 maelstrom non crit is 400k.  If you don't crit with earth shock you lose very little damage.  However, if you crit  with earth shock you do easily over 1million damage (several lava burst crits worth)  I really don't see a down side to using earth shock during ascendance other than 2-4 seconds off of fire elemental due to elementalist in your artifact tree.
By all means show me that I'm being silly. Please.  Thanks all

Has anyone else been doing more damage with aftershock than with ancestral swiftness (lvl 60 tier talents)?  the big thing I've been noticing is how many more earth shocks I'm getting off.  Other things are that I don't ever have to worry about how i'm going to set up my maelstrom for full length flame shocks and icefury/frost shock casts. Also, lower damage decrease while moving due to more maelstrom. I'm 865 and I'm doing 20-28k more dmg with aftershock.  Your thoughts
