[Archived] S20 Hearthsone Mid Budget Warrior Control Deck

Recommended Posts

Guest Mike

I hate this deck. I find I am using my whole hand to clear the field and I end up not being able to play anything while the other player just sits there and destroys me.

that's because you don't know how to plan ahead and probably play every class the same way. this was been my main from the beginning and I beat priests silly. last priest I played I had 17 hp left and about 30 armor lol. don't waste all your CC at once, be patient and space it out. I often win with less than 10 hp. youll find yourself with like  5 hp and a bunch of armor at the end. unless you cant plan ahead. play agro decks so I can spank you!

Seems to be slightly week endgame, but that may be a me problem D:

Got to rank 15 rather easily with this deck however, so its decent tongue.png

I have a question though, are there any cards in this deck that would be a replacable with my ragnaros?

I was a strongly in favor of this deck but it hasn't changed much and people have adapted. its not as strong at it was when I started so don't waste resources on it until they make a new deck.

I posted that people had adapted to this deck but the new changed seem to have made it better.

i play this deck and midbuget paladin mage and hunter. the hunter is pure garbage. I have been keeping track of wins and loses on excel for midbudget agro hunter, mage and control warrior. i was missing a couple of cards for warrior so i had to experiment. Warrior two was something I tried to replace cards with since I don't have all the cards the deck asks for. Warrior 1 was the previous deck on the guide. Warrior 2 I changed the 1 Inner Rage 1 Spell breaker with spiteful smiths to see what happened.. it was ugly. warrior 3 I took out the smiths and defenders  for korkrons and drakes. im rank 14 thanks to this deck. I play hunter and I lose ranking! lol

Warrior (1): 1 Inner Rage 1 Spellbreaker   Warrior (2): 2 Spiteful Smiths   Warrior (3): Kor'kron Elites Azure drakes Arathi Weaponsmiths (no Defender of aurgus)

Game Warrior (1) Warrior (2) Warrior (3) Mage Hunter Paladin   Opponent 1 W             Hunter 2 W             Priest 3 W             Mage 4 L             Paladin 5   W           Paladin 6   L           Hunter 7   L           Rogue 8   L           Mage 9     L         Paladin 10     W         Warrior 11     W         Warrior 12     W         Warrior 13     L         Mage 14     W         Priest 15     L         Warrior 16     W         Paladin 17         L     Hunter 18         L     Shaman 19         L     Warrior 20         L     Mage

Hey, Mike

Warrior Control is on of the most expensive decks you can play and it fits well in the meta game. This is a mid-budget version, which makes it limited in terms of your finish and you should try to get the upgrades for full version.

I played Warrior Control from rank 10-3 and swapped to Shaman up to legend. The warrior I played had 1 Sen'jin Shieldmasta and 2x Cleave as I was constantly matched against ZOO. I would suggest observing the meta game for a while before you make adjustments and adjust the deck accordingly.

I finally crafted the complete set and I was reading the part on what cards to mulligan. It's based on what deck you're facing, like aggressive or control. how can I know what I'm facing before I start the match? is there some rule of thumb? like Warlocks are agro and shamans control (those are the only 2 I've noticed)

You can make guesses according to what you have been faced with in your previous matches. If the last 5 Warlocks you met had very aggressive decks and you are playing against yet another Warlock, then you can make the assumption that they will also be playing an aggressive deck.

I'm trying to rank up in the arena. What ranks is this deck most useful for? I think I read that certain level ranges are comprised of certain decks, for example, high ranking has a lot of ZOO? so far it's done well from 20-15 but then I hit a snag against legendary aggressive paladin decks. It was only 3 loses compared to 5 wins in a row. Maybe it was a fluke but I got to thinking maybe I need a different approach for ranks 15-10, like an aggressive paladin or hunter or control hunter.

I guess what I'm asking if there's a general approach to ranking up, for example 20-15 control decks dominate 15-10 aggressive decks. I'm just making this up though, I have no idea.

I have enough dust to make 1  Faceless Manipulator what a good card to take out to put this one in?

I'm fairly certain that you can take this particular deck all the way up to legend with some careful meta-game adaptation and a fair share of grinding, however the higher budget version should make it much easier.

There is no special approach to ranking up, I would suggest playing longer sessions rather than just a few matches so you can actually observe what the meta game is like and make adjustments to your deck accordingly. (For example, if you are constantly matched against ZOO or other decks that rely on heavy minion pressure, Cleave would be a good start. I often consider Sen'jin Shieldmasta as well and so on)

I've been playing a variant of this deck and doing alright for myself, I don't see what all the hate is for. Early game is about as draw dependant as other control decks, it's just becomes a bit harder if you do fall behind. Brawl can really turn games around though, as can Armorsmith + Whirlwind related combos. Some of the changes were made because I was missing cards, others were just to add some more variety, but here's my decklist if anyone wants it:

Warrior

  • Execute (2)
  • Shield Slam
  • Whirlwind (2)
  • Fiery War Axe (2)
  • Cleave
  • Slam (2)
  • Armorsmith (2)
  • Cruel Taskmaster (2)
  • Shield Block (2)
  • Frothing Berserker (2)
  • Mortal Strike
  • Arathi Weapon
  • Kor'kron Elite (2)
  • Arcanite Reaper  (2)
  • Brawl

Neutral

  • Acolyte of Pain
  • Big Game Hunter
  • Azure Drake
  • Faceless Manipulator
  • Cairne Bloodhoof

Hi I am working towards this and the "Legendary" Version of this Deck.

My current Deck is:

2x Cleave
- 2x Execute
- 2x Whirlwind
- 2x Cruel Taskmaster
2x Sen’jin Shieldmasta
- 2x Fiery War Axe
- 2x Slam
2x Chillwind Yeti
- 2x Shield Block
- 2x Acolyte of Pain
- 2x Kor'kron Elite
- 2x Arcanite Reaper
2x Shattered Sun Cleric
2x Heroic Strike
1x Lord of the Arena
1x Maexxna

I have marked the required cards I already have inside of the deck with a "-".
At the moment I do not get higher than a 33% winning chance an my feeling is that this is due to a weak endgame.
Most damage is dealt with the hero, which is ok, but it often comes down to requiring him to cope with minions and thus loosing health.

What would be "cheap" changes to tweak it, to get towards the Mid-Budget Control Deck?

Thanks a lot!

Not that i'm any good at the game, but as far as i know the way this deck is played is taking and keeping control of the playfield until you get your finishers. So that's where the cleaves, executes, etc etc come in.

Keeping the board clean and damage to a minimum untill you draw your finishers, gorash, faceless, arcanite reaper, etc.

I would remove the shieldmasta's, and the chillwind yeti's.

Hi thank you for your reply. What would be a good replacement for them?
