Hotfixes for October 10th - Legendary Buffs, Skill and Weapon Tuning

Today's set of hotfixes addresses several bugs with Vault Hunter skills, and a whole lot of weaker legendaries got buffed, with even more buffs to come! We also got some overall weapon tuning, with sniper scopes  and some annointed affixes getting tweaked.

As for the Vault Hunter changes specifically, Moze's Bloodletter class mod gets nerfed, her Means of Destruction (grenade and heavy regen) and Fl4k's Leave No Trace (ammo regen) have been re-buffed after the previous nerf and Amara and Zane get some skill fixes and buffs.

This week's Borderlands 3 hotfixes, which will be live on all platforms by or before 3:00 PM PDT today, address some player character passive abilities, gear balance, and some quality-of-life issues across the game. We're watching the character builds that players are creating and are looking through all the different gear available to make sure that there is something for everyone. This week, and in the coming weeks, there will be further adjustments to gear with the hopes of creating even more build types. Our goal is to adjust some of the less-used Legendary gear to bring them to the same level as some of the more popular options.

In addition, we are addressing reported bugs and are hard at work continuing to address other performance concerns. Thank you so much for your feedback and support. Please continue to submit any bugs you run into at support.2k.com.

Vault Hunter Adjustments  

Amara

We addressed a concern that Alacrity was only rewarding players one point worth of bonuses even if the player put in more than one point. In addition, we wanted Phasegrasp to be more accessible to all weapon types and play styles, so we doubled the range to grasp an enemy.

  • Putting points into Alacrity now awards a reload speed bonus per rank
  • Phasegrasp can now be used on targets further away and the cooldown is now instantly returned if a player misses

Moze

The Bloodletter class mod was creating some overwhelming synergies for Moze so we increased the delay and decreased the recharge rate of the shield to compensate.  This should help encourage the intended use of this class mod, which is to heal shields manually, not automatically. Means of Destruction’s re-trigger delay was adjusted again because the change limited other builds beyond creating infinite grenades. The infinite grenade bug will be addressed in a future patch but we wanted to enable other builds that use Means of Destruction so we dramatically reduced the re-trigger delay to a reasonable number.

  • Bloodletter Class Mod
    - Increased the Recharge Delay by 150%
    - Reduced the Recharge Rate by 50%
  • Addressed a reported bug with Close the Distance so the Action Skill Augment will now deal the intended Shock Damage
  • Means of Destruction now has a re-trigger delay of 0.3 seconds

FL4K

The Leave No Trace change last week to FL4K was to forcefully inject the functionality of a cooldown into the ability. However, the value that was added was never the intended the value. We dramatically lowered it to retain the promise of the ability but with a cooldown that still allows players to gain ammo without dramatically removing a core aspect of a weapon’s gameplay loop.

Zane

Weapon Hotfixes

  • The Lob's projectile tick damage is now 60% of base damage (up from 20%) and projectile speed decelerates faster to increase chances of hitting the same target multiple times
  • Creeping Death damage increased by 200%
  • Carrier damage increased by 60%
  • Gunerang damage increased by 20%
  • All Sniper Rifle Zoom Levels have been slightly reduced
  • Long scopes on Jakobs, Children of the Vault, and DAHL Assault Rifles have also been slightly reduced
  • Anointed Parts:
    - When Zane swaps positions with his Digi-Clone, the damage gained is increased to 130% (up from 75%)
    - When FL4K hits a target with Rakks, the target now takes 100% increased damage (up from 50%)
    - The Anointed part "Increased damage vs Badasses" no longer heals the player and now correctly adds bonus damage to Badass enemies

Bug Fixes

  • Pain, Terror, and Agonizer 9000 have been adjusted to have an increased chance to drop higher quality loot
  • Addressed a reported bug with Dynasty Diner that could potentially halt mission progress for some players
  • Addressed a reported concern that some players fell through the floors in various boss arenas
  • Modified enemy spawn level discrepancies reported in the later parts of the campaign

We noticed that some enemies were spawning at lower levels than expected in the later parts of the campaign. Players should no longer see enemies that are dramatically lower levels than other nearby enemies in certain areas.

As a reminder, the current weekly event is the rare spawn hunt, with all the rares appearing pretty much 100% of the time and having a significantly increased drop rate for their legendaries, including some that have been buffed today - and we have all their locations right here.

      It's about that time in the game's lifespan when many of you might be going through all the maps to find everything on there and it's inevitable you'll miss something. Today we have several interactive maps that will help out with that and also showcase how all the zones a interconnected.
      First off we have one from Map Genie, which seems a little crowded at first look, but once you zoom in a little it all becomes very clear (and you can toggle off whichever features you don't want to see). The advantage to this one is that it has a whole lot more info (like Echo logs, Easter eggs, Eridium chunk spawns, named enemies, Catch-a-rides, and even white chests - basically everything there is on the map is shown), but my favorite part is that it shows each planet on one connected map and you can see how all the zones connect.

      Then we have IGN's maps, which are more streamlined and only show the important collectibles and red chests, if you're just interested in maxing out the map progress.

      In any case, both of these will help you out on your journey to getting that 100% (or, in some cases, 105, 110% or even more) galaxy score, and the first one is just fun to look at in general.

      Yesterday's hotfixes introduced some big changes to the existing builds, with some favorite and very powerful items getting nerfed, so we though we'd talk to one of our guide writers, Motoko, to hear what's actually happened, as he tests the changes for upcoming guide updates.

      We'll just go through all the hotfixes and hear what all those numbers actually mean. Obviously as the hotfix is still fresh, there's a lot of testing yet to be done, so these are just first impressions, but considering Motoko has a lot of experience and play time, they're definitely worth a read.

      WEAPON HOTFIXES
       
      Maliwan
      Westergun damage increased by 25% ASMD damage increased by 28%
      The Westergun and ASMD buffs are nice on paper, but both weapons are mostly unused. Cutsman damage reduced by 25%
      The Cutsman nerf brings it in line with most SMGs so it wont be an auto-pick on anything but Phaselock Amara anymore.
        Tediore
      Ten Gallon damage increased by 8%
      Another buff to a mostly unused weapon, its main issue is you can only have 1 drone active at any time and reloading the weapon just adds more bullets to the active drone.
        Vladof
      Sickle reload speed increased by 25%
      Address some of the downtime the weapon suffers from, due to being relatively ammo inefficient. It now becomes a strong option, but I would only use it on builds that retain some sort of ammo regeneration. Faisor damage increased by 15%
      After the buff it becomes a very competitive Assault Rifle. Infiniti damage increased by 40% Magnificent damage increased by 25%
      Infinity and Magnificent are mostly niche guns used in some builds, the damage buff doesnt necessarily increase their appeal, as you pick those for their special effect already. Jericho damage increased by 40%
      The buff wasnt really needed, as it was already one of the top 2 launchers in the game, albeit with the potential to kill your team with friendly fire. Lucian’s Call accuracy and handling reduced
      The Lucian's Call nerf helps differentiate the weapon from its counterpart Rowan's Call: the former gives you a bigger magazine and faster fire rate which makes it better suited if your target tracking is not on point, while the latter gives you more dps as long as you keep hitting critical points. Lyuda Critical Damage Bonus decreased by 30% and made a modification to address a reported bug that an extra bullet was spawned in the center
      This nerf brings it more in line compared to any other sniper rifle, despite still being much more usable, especially when paired with Anointed effects that makes you consume no ammo for X seconds.
        Torgue
      Try-Bolt damage increased by 25% Devil's Foursum damage increased by 13%
      Despite the buffs both Try-Bolt and Devil's Foursum lack usability in practice: one is a worse burst-fire Ogre and the other requires you to be at a specific distance from your target for all the projectiles to connect. Alchemist damage increased by 25%
      The buff makes it an interesting option, especially if you run with TheTransformer shield, making the gun provide you shield sustain instead. Flakker now consumes the full magazine when fired and damage is reduced by 33%
      The Flakker nerf is quite brutal for any character that isnt Moze with some ammo regen traits, as it dramatically reduces the DPS the gun can provide if you are forced to reload after just 1 shot. Moze can bypass that problem with traits like MeansOfDestruction, Redistribution and Forge.
        Jakobs
      Maggie damage increased by 35%
      The buff makes it a pocket Jackobs shotgun, provided you aim down the sight, altho it's hard to make good use of the Jakobs weapons trait. Hellwalker damage reduced by 8%
      This nerf doesn't change the weapon functionality in a meaningful way: you still one shot anything short of a badass until you hit Mayhem 3, then it becomes useless.
        Hyperion
      Conference Call damage increased by 15%
      The buff should make the weapon appealing for mobbing, unless you fight in a very open space. It will probably still be worse than Brainstormer unless you can find an Incendiary or Radioactive version. Crossroad accuracy reduced and it now fires 3 projectiles instead of 4
      This nerf is quite big: on top of losing additional pellets, the drop in accuracy makes the weapon basically worthless past 10 meters. Butcher accuracy reduced and damage reduced by 25%
      The nerf brings it in line with other top shotguns, it will still obliterate 1 target at a time faster than any other weapons in the category, but it wont translate in superior mobbing potential at the same time.
        DAHL
      Vanquisher damage increased by 20%
      This one makes the weapon more relevant if you either absolutely wanna go fast or play the Zane running build. Best paired with the cryo artifact that increases your slide speed.
        Children of the Vault
      Skeksis damage increased by 15% Linoge damage increased by 20%
      COV pistols are mostly for close quarter combat, due their rate of fire and lack of accuracy. The buff to Skeksis and Linoge makes them just a bit worse than the better Torgue and Jakobs solutions. Pain is Power damage increased by 25%
      The buff is not really gamechanging: it does increase the damage of a relatively bad weapon, but at the same time it also increases the damage you suffer from its unique effect, and the only reason to take that weapon was to proc Elemental Projector.
        Atlas
      Ruby’s Wrath damage increased by 10%
      The second buff in 2 patches for this launcher makes it somewhat competitive with TheScourge for a no-reload moze build.  
       
      GRENADES
      Hunter-Seeker damage increased by 25%
      This buff, coupled with the Hex and Firestorm nerfs makes this gimmicky mod a potential choice for long range engagements, but who uses grenades for long range? Hex grenade damage reduced by 70% and duration reduced to 3 seconds
      The Hex change kill its damage output, making the grenade mod a niche choice for Zane Cryo build or Moze. A recurring Cryo Hex is still a very viable option in those 2 builds for the crowd control provided, and in the case of Moze as resource engine. Any other variant is largely outclassed by other mods. For a general purpose mobbing grenade StormFront or Quasar are your best bet. Firestorm damage reduced by 70%
      Pre nerf this was the better Porcelain Pipe Bomb on large hitbox bosses. The nerf cuts its damage potential by a huge margin and makes the mod decent as a resource engine for Moze or if you want to set an area on fire I guess?
       
      VAULT HUNTER ADJUSTMENTS
      All pets’ health increased by 50% Digi-Clone: health increased by 100%
      As a short term solution, this change is going to help bridge the gap between "pet-builds" and top builds, especially for Fl4k and Zane. Iron Bear: health increased by 50%
      Iron Bear is a different case: the opportunity cost for entering the bear and losing your shield/grenade mods, artifact and any legendary weapons is still quite high, considering the output damage you can muster at max level with a proper setup. Another issue is weapon choices for Iron Bear: currently your two best options are either Grenade Launcher with the volley mod and the Minigun with the autocannon option, but even then the damage will still be mediocre at best. Increasing its base health is a step in the right direction but doesn't really mitigate the lack of regeneration Iron Bear currently suffers.

      Today's hotfixes bring another huge round of legendary tuning, with nerfs to the massively powerful Lyuda, Lucian's Call, Flakker, Hellwalker, with buffs to many other weapons. The bigger news if that Hex grenade (the most powerful one in the game) also got a massive 70% nerf as well as a duration reduction, hitting both the Moze grenade and Amara Elemental Ricochet builds, with Firestorm also getting a 70% reduction.

      We then have Vault Hunter adjustments, with big Iron Bear, pet and Digiclone health buffs, and a big improvement for shield boosters, as they're now an auto pickup, making those types of shields much more viable! We'll be updating our guides to include the changes soon.

      As always, the changes will be live some time today before midnight CEST.

      This week’s Borderlands 3 hotfixes, which will be live on all platforms by or before 3:00 PM PDT today, adjust Legendary gear across all manufacturers. Our goal with Legendary gear is to enable a large variety of playstyles and builds for all characters. After looking through the data, we found that that some pieces of Legendary gear were greatly outperforming others and felt they were limiting builds instead of increasing them. In addition, some of the damage output of Legendary gear limited the growth in combat engagements for the future so we tuned everything to an acceptable median. We expect all Vault Hunters to be able to create amazing builds and we want to support that with more ways to grow and reach those power levels.
      Weapon Hotfixes
      Maliwan
      Westergun damage increased by 25% ASMD damage increased by 28% Cutsman damage reduced by 25% Tediore
      Ten Gallon damage increased by 8% Vladof
      Sickle reload speed increased by 25% Faisor damage increased by 15% Infiniti damage increased by 40% Magnificent damage increased by 25% Jericho damage increased by 40% Lucian’s Call accuracy and handling reduced Lyuda Critical Damage Bonus decreased by 30% and made a modification to address a reported bug that an extra bullet was spawned in the center The Lyuda’s functionality is to split the projectile from 1 to 3 after a certain distance. It was reported that the original projectile was never destroyed in the process of splitting so 1 projectile actually became 4. Addressing this concern effectively removed a full shot’s worth of damage which auto-corrects the base damage of the weapon. Since we increased all sniper rifle critical damage bonus in a previous hotfix, we reduced some of the critical damage bonus on the Lyuda.
      Torgue
      Try-Bolt damage increased by 25% Alchemist damage increased by 25% Devils Foursum damage increased by 13% Flakker now consumes the full magazine when fired and damage is reduced by 33% Flakker was greatly outperforming other shotguns due to the number of projectiles and the high rate of fire. We initially believed the resulting projectile spread would cause most of the explosions to miss the target, however this turned out to be false, so we reduced the projectile damage and allowed the weapon to only fire once per magazine. This change encourages players to capitalize on different stat bonuses to maximize the weapon’s damage output.
      Laser-Sploder rocket projectiles spawn interval increased by 0.4 seconds Jakobs
      Maggie damage increased by 35% Hellwalker damage reduced by 8% Hyperion
      We found that a couple of the Legendary Hyperion weaponry bypassed the Hyperion manufacturer playstyle too easily making their bonuses greatly outweigh the penalties. The Butcher was drastically outperforming all metrics and we chose to reduce the damage in order to keep the fast fire rate.
      Conference Call damage increased by 15% Crossroad accuracy reduced and it now fires 3 projectiles instead of 4 Butcher accuracy reduced and damage reduced by 25% DAHL
      Vanquisher damage increased by 20% Children of the Vault
      Skeksis damage increased by 15% Linoge damage increased by 20% Pain is Power damage increased by 25% Atlas
      Ruby’s Wrath damage increased by 10% Grenades
      Hex and Firestorm were calibrated to the wrong grenade modifier. These two grenades were envisioned to specialize by applying elemental DoTs to targets. Instead they were resulting in large amounts of damage and the elemental DoTs were minimal. We realize this is a drastic change on both of these grenades, but we did not want to remove the spectacle of the grenade (number of grenades spawned, number of targets hit, etc.) and focused on allowing their core identity to be emphasized instead of them continuing to just be high damage grenades.
      Hunter-Seeker damage increased by 25% Hex grenade damage reduced by 70% and duration reduced to 3 seconds Firestorm damage reduced by 70% Artifacts
      It was reported that the Legendary artifact, Elemental Projector, had a bug resulting in the max value being displayed at 183% instead of the actual max value of 113%. Therefore,  we addressed the discrepancy and reduced the max value to 90%.
      Elemental Projector damage max roll reduced to 90% Vault Hunter Adjustments
      The current state of Moze’s Iron Bear, Zane’s Digi-Clone, and FL4K’s pets have made players focus on other elements besides those Vault Hunter’s fundamental action skills in the late game. While longer term solutions to scaling their damage is explored, we have boosted the health of Iron Bear, the Digi-Clone, and the pets to make them more viable. We will have more to say about long term solutions for these characters in the future.
      Iron Bear: health increased by 50% All pets’ health increased by 50% Digi-Clone: health increased by 100% Addressed a bug with Salvation where grenades were giving life-steal Bug Fixes
      Psychos will now use their True Vault Hunter Mode name in True Vault Hunter Mode Removed the optional Rare Spawn missions from Galaxy Progress Addressed a reported bug where Completely Sane Sid didn’t always become hostile when using FL4K Addressed a reported bug where Ratch would not properly spawn during “Ratch’d Up”, which potentially blocked completion of that side mission Included a modification so Lilith would continue to move toward the door in Shiv’s confession chamber during “From the Ground Up” Lowered the chance for a weapon to drop from the Pachinko machine Included a modification so that Zane’s Digi-Clone will no longer spawn into the cage in Cistern of Slaughter Shield Boosters were modified and are now set for autopickup An addition was introduced so Eridium chests are no longer listed as Red Chests in the ECHOcast extension on Sanctuary III

      The 10th anniversary celebration continues with the Eridium-themed event tomorrow, with the purple currency dropping from all enemies for a week, even more of it will drop on Mayhem and, most importantly of all, cosmetics will be discounted at Crazy Earl's shop and the Eridium slot machine will be cheaper to use as well!

      This also means that the rare spawn event, which has proven to be quite popular as players farm for a lot of artifacts, grenades, class mods etc, is only around for another day and a half, so get to farming if you still need that perfect roll on one of the many drops (like the annointed Psycho Stabber I'm going to need to get for my Amara build).

      The Eridium event starts tomorrow around midnight and lasts until next Tuesday, when a Twitch-themed one will begin, with the week after that presumably being when we get the first free DLC for the game, or perhaps a warm-up event that will lead into it.

      We're continuing to celebrate Borderlands' 10-year anniversary with another week of in-game bonuses for Borderlands 3. This week is Show Me the Eridium!
      The first thing to know about Crazy Earl—besides the fact that he's completely off his rocker—is that he prizes the ancient purple element known as Eridium over all else. During this week's Borderlands Anniversary Celebration event, entitled Show Me the Eridium, you can make Crazy Earl envious of your Eridium reserves once the strange ore starts popping up all over the place. And if you don't feel like hoarding all that precious Eridium to yourself, Crazy Earl style, he'll gladly trade you for cosmetic items and Anointed weapons in exchange for your stash.

      The Show Me the Eridium event will begin courtesy of a quick micropatch deploying by or before 3:00 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 15. You'll receive an in-game notification if you're playing while the micropatch goes live; to ensure that the micropatch is successfully applied, verify that you're online then hang around the main menu for a minute or two. For the duration of this event, there will be Eridium drops added to standard enemies, increased Eridium drops in Mayhem Mode, discounted Eridium costs to use Moxxi's Vault Line slot machine, and a discount on all the coveted items at Crazy Earl's hideout in the Cargo Bay of Sanctuary III.
      In case you haven't done business with Crazy Earl before, he's the only vendor who deals in Eridium, the special currency earned exclusively through gameplay. Provided you're packing enough Eridium shards, he'll sell you all kinds of cosmetic items big and small: Vault Hunter Heads and Skins, Emotes, ECHO themes, Trinkets, Weapon Skins, and Room Decorations. Next to his little bunker, you'll find his custom-built Veteran Rewards vending machine, which takes Eridium in exchange for Anointed weapons. Anointed gear is powerful thanks to its ability to improve Action Skills in ways that may or may not be specific to one Vault Hunter.

      This week is the ideal time to collect Borderlands 3's wide assortment of cosmetics, giving your Vault Hunter everything they need to positively slay when it comes to fashion and flair. Those Anointed weapons will also provide a nice boost in power—and if you somehow amass more Eridium than you know what to do with, show off how big of a baller you are by firing weapons from the Eridian Fabricator with reckless abandon.
