Hotfixes for October 10th - Legendary Buffs, Skill and Weapon Tuning

Recommended Posts

Today's set of hotfixes addresses several bugs with Vault Hunter skills, and a whole lot of weaker legendaries got buffed, with even more buffs to come! We also got some overall weapon tuning, with sniper scopes  and some annointed affixes getting tweaked.

As for the Vault Hunter changes specifically, Moze's Bloodletter class mod gets nerfed, her Means of Destruction (grenade and heavy regen) and Fl4k's Leave No Trace (ammo regen) have been re-buffed after the previous nerf and Amara and Zane get some skill fixes and buffs.

This week's Borderlands 3 hotfixes, which will be live on all platforms by or before 3:00 PM PDT today, address some player character passive abilities, gear balance, and some quality-of-life issues across the game. We're watching the character builds that players are creating and are looking through all the different gear available to make sure that there is something for everyone. This week, and in the coming weeks, there will be further adjustments to gear with the hopes of creating even more build types. Our goal is to adjust some of the less-used Legendary gear to bring them to the same level as some of the more popular options.

In addition, we are addressing reported bugs and are hard at work continuing to address other performance concerns. Thank you so much for your feedback and support. Please continue to submit any bugs you run into at support.2k.com.

Vault Hunter Adjustments

We addressed a concern that Alacrity was only rewarding players one point worth of bonuses even if the player put in more than one point. In addition, we wanted Phasegrasp to be more accessible to all weapon types and play styles, so we doubled the range to grasp an enemy.

  • Putting points into Alacrity now awards a reload speed bonus per rank
  • Phasegrasp can now be used on targets further away and the cooldown is now instantly returned if a player misses

The Bloodletter class mod was creating some overwhelming synergies for Moze so we increased the delay and decreased the recharge rate of the shield to compensate.  This should help encourage the intended use of this class mod, which is to heal shields manually, not automatically. Means of Destruction’s re-trigger delay was adjusted again because the change limited other builds beyond creating infinite grenades. The infinite grenade bug will be addressed in a future patch but we wanted to enable other builds that use Means of Destruction so we dramatically reduced the re-trigger delay to a reasonable number.

  • Bloodletter Class Mod
    - Increased the Recharge Delay by 150%
    - Reduced the Recharge Rate by 50%
  • Addressed a reported bug with Close the Distance so the Action Skill Augment will now deal the intended Shock Damage
  • Means of Destruction now has a re-trigger delay of 0.3 seconds

The Leave No Trace change last week to FL4K was to forcefully inject the functionality of a cooldown into the ability. However, the value that was added was never the intended the value. We dramatically lowered it to retain the promise of the ability but with a cooldown that still allows players to gain ammo without dramatically removing a core aspect of a weapon’s gameplay loop.

Weapon Hotfixes

  • The Lob's projectile tick damage is now 60% of base damage (up from 20%) and projectile speed decelerates faster to increase chances of hitting the same target multiple times
  • Creeping Death damage increased by 200%
  • Carrier damage increased by 60%
  • Gunerang damage increased by 20%
  • All Sniper Rifle Zoom Levels have been slightly reduced
  • Long scopes on Jakobs, Children of the Vault, and DAHL Assault Rifles have also been slightly reduced
  • Anointed Parts:
    - When Zane swaps positions with his Digi-Clone, the damage gained is increased to 130% (up from 75%)
    - When FL4K hits a target with Rakks, the target now takes 100% increased damage (up from 50%)
    - The Anointed part "Increased damage vs Badasses" no longer heals the player and now correctly adds bonus damage to Badass enemies

Bug Fixes

  • Pain, Terror, and Agonizer 9000 have been adjusted to have an increased chance to drop higher quality loot
  • Addressed a reported bug with Dynasty Diner that could potentially halt mission progress for some players
  • Addressed a reported concern that some players fell through the floors in various boss arenas
  • Modified enemy spawn level discrepancies reported in the later parts of the campaign

We noticed that some enemies were spawning at lower levels than expected in the later parts of the campaign. Players should no longer see enemies that are dramatically lower levels than other nearby enemies in certain areas.

As a reminder, the current weekly event is the rare spawn hunt, with all the rares appearing pretty much 100% of the time and having a significantly increased drop rate for their legendaries, including some that have been buffed today - and we have all their locations right here.

We have some Handsome Jackpot news today as Gearbox have shared 13 minutes of the upcoming DLC with us! Coming on December 19th, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is the first paid DLC, included in the season pass. We also had hotfixes for today, which among other things announced a new event later this month, that would see the Maliwan Takedown scale to the party's size, making it possible for pretty much everyone to solo it!
We also got some hotfixes today, ending the Bloody Harvest event. Other than that there's several fixes to Amara and Zane's skills and class mods, as well as
      December 5th Hotfixes (source)
With this hotfix, the Bloody Harvest event is fading from Borderlands 3. As the event ends, you will no longer see Haunted enemies, travel to Heck, or be able to complete Bloody Harvest challenges until the spooky season returns next year! Thank you to everyone for the great feedback, your enjoyment, and the amazing spooky shots taken with Photo Mode in Heck! We're taking what we've seen and heard from this event and are exploring how to apply these learnings to the next one.
Addressed a reported issue where loot was sometimes falling into an unreachable area in Slaughterstar 3000 Addressed a reported issue where the movement speed bonus with Amara's passive ability "Mindfulness" when buffed with Spiritual Driver class mod was sometimes extremely high Mindfulness was designed with the intent that reaching maximum stacks was not easily achievable so the bonus per grade was high. We want players to take advantage of move speed but not to the extent where parts of the game may not function correctly.
Addressed a reported issue with the Spiritual Driver class mod where it was sometimes awarding damage for all types of damage and not just gun damage Decreased pet audio so FL4K's Jabber would be less vocal Addressed an issue where Zane's passive ability "Death Follows Close" did not bring the correct bonus to several Kill Skills Addressed a reported issue where Zane's passive ability "Nerves of Steel" would sometimes lose functionality after fast traveling Fixed typos on Desperate Measures and Stainless Steel Bear skills Fixed multiple spots where players were sometimes able to escape the map in Skywell-27 Fixed multiple spots where players would sometimes get stuck in Ambermire Fixed various areas in Septic Sluice and Green Diamond Platform that allowed players to reach unintended areas Fixed various areas on Pandora that sometimes allowed players to escape the map Fixed a reported issue where some players could not hear the flaming skulls from Billy, the Anointed Fixed a reported issue where Brick's sledgehammer sometimes continued to spin after being thrown at an enemy during the mission "Hammerlocked" Hotfixes generally address smaller things, while patches contain code that must go through a lengthier patch process. The next patch will be coming later this month and will contain the first DLC, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot! It will also address reported concerns that we have seen in the last patch, including Guardian Rank and additional vending machines in Skywell-27.
Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot will be available to players on December 19 who have purchased the Season Pass or the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition.
At the end of the month, look forward to spending the new year with Maliwan in Borderlands 3! In a time-limited event, the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite will be scaled depending on the number of players in your party. You'll be able to play solo or with a party of any size to score all that sweet Takedown loot!

We have a very small batch of hotfixes, or, well, one hotfix to be specific, with the Butcher's extra recoil bug that arrived after the patch getting addressed. We also got word that there won't be any additional fixes this week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

Today we will release a hotfix for Borderlands 3, which will be live on all platforms by 3:00 PM PST, that addresses reported concerns some users were having with The Butcher after last week's update. Additionally, we're aware that some players reported experiencing other issues after installing the November 21 Patch and Hotfixes and we're working to address those in future updates.
Addressed a reported concern where The Butcher could occasionally experience excessive recoil If you experience any issues with Borderlands 3, please submit a ticket to support.2k.com!

The new raid DLC has been here for a few days now and we've all had a chance to play it and check out both the new bosses and the new difficulty level. We poked our resident Moze and Zane expert, Motoko, to see what his thoughts are on both.
Let's start with the Maliwan Takedown itself, which he seems pretty pleased with:

Then it's on to Mayhem 4, which has brought up some mixed feeling in the community:
We'll have some Mayhem 4 builds and raid guides ready for you soon as well.

      Maliwan Takedown (source)
All the need-to-know info about Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, available now as a free addition to Borderlands 3.

This may be the toughest mission you've faced yet, Vault Hunter. Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite is now part of Borderlands 3, giving dedicated players a chance to test their mettle with some seriously challenging endgame content featuring Maliwan foes. In case you missed The Borderlands Show's initial reveal and hands-on discussion, Takedowns are free additions to Borderlands 3 that, unlike limited-time seasonal events such as Bloody Harvest, are here to stay. As the first Borderlands 3 challenge of its kind, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite is designed for intense difficulty and coveted rewards, all tuned for co-op parties of four max-level Vault Hunters.

      Taking on the Takedown
Having seen your sharpshooting handiwork back on Promethea, Lorelei is now recruiting you and your fellow Vault Hunters for a coordinated attack on a Maliwan facility where a secret weapon is being built. Only seasoned Vault Hunters should enlist: you can technically access the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite as soon as you finish the main story campaign and accept Lorelei's mission aboard Sanctuary III, but all the enemies you'll encounter in the Takedown are locked at level 50 and are ready to vaporize you in an instant if you rush to face them prematurely. You'll need to come very prepared if you want any chance of survival, meaning you should be level 50 yourself and have decked out your Vault Hunter with Legendary weapons and items that synergize with your preferred build.
Another word to the wise: though you have the option to jump into a Takedown solo or in parties of two or three, your best shot at success will come from a full squad of four decently geared Vault Hunters. If your team is short a Vault Hunter or three, you can join a Public Matchmaking queue for Takedowns that'll pair you up with likeminded players hoping to sabotage the Maliwan corporation's dangerous machinations. Co-op buddies should note that unlike the rest of Borderlands 3, Takedowns will not scale damage to accommodate for level differences during co-op. In other words, anyone who isn't level 50 will effectively be a liability for their Takedown team. If you haven't hit max level just yet, Mayhem Mode is an ideal way to earn extra experience and level up your Vault Hunter at an accelerated rate.

Big Risk, Big Rewards, and No Easy Respawns
Takedowns are already a fearsome undertaking enough given all the elite enemies you'll encounter, some of whom have abilities you won't have faced elsewhere in Borderlands 3. But to up the ante even further, Takedowns disable the ability to respawn during a fight. If you're knocked down into a Fight For Your Life state, your only options for getting back into the fray are a friendly revive or a Second Wind. Otherwise, you're pretty much out of the picture and sent into a spectator mode, where you'll watch the rest of your party fight for their lives.
But there's still hope. There are two new boss encounters you'll face in Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite, in addition to all the Maliwan troops you'll have to overcome: one boss fight at the midway point, and a final boss at the end of it all. If you die during the first half of this Takedown but your party still manages to beat the first boss encounter, you'll rejoin your party at a subsequent checkpoint. Similarly, if you die before your team defeats the final boss, you'll come back to life and even get to take part in the resulting loot drops. Once you're eliminated, all you can do is hope your teammates can overcome the odds; best to cheer them on instead of blaming anyone for your premature death.

Provided you and your allies have what it takes, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite can be completed in about 30-45 minutes and is meant to be highly replayable. If you're after some of the best loot in the game, you'll definitely want to make repeat visits to the Maliwan Blacksite and get your farm on. Loot that drops exclusively in the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite includes new weapons, shields, a Vault Hunter skin, an ECHO skin, and even a Room Decoration to make you the envy of everyone else aboard Sanctuary III.
If you're looking for a cooperative endgame challenge worthy of your Vault Hunters' greatness, we hope you enjoy the brutal gauntlet that is the Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite. This is just Borderlands 3's first Takedown, so expect more uber-difficult content to come in the future. Good luck on your mission, Vault Hunter—Lorelei and the galaxy at large are counting on you!

If you've felt a little weaker in the new content released today and perhaps attributed it to Mayhem 4 being significantly harder, it's not just that. Apparently, as first spotted by several redditors,  the patch somehow broke all functionality of the Guardian Rank perks (aka the big bonuses you unlock with x Guardian Ranks). This appears to be affecting all platforms and is not limited to the new area.
The Guardian ranks offer a whole lot of power, especially for those that have spent a lot of time playing the game and getting a bunch of XP, so the difference is significant and makes all Vault Hunters a lot more vulnerable, which is particularly problematic with this being the hardest content introduced to the game yet, on top of Mayhem 4!
While this will be less of a problem for the new players taking advantage of the free weekend on consoles that started today, it's still too bad we have a major content drop marred with some pretty huge bugs, especially when it improved so many things. Hopefully Gearbox fix this quickly and are a bit more careful with the next DLC, aka Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot.
