Death Knights and Demon Hunters Start At Level 10 in WoW Shadowlands

Recommended Posts

In the Deep Dive panel, Blizzard highlighted the new leveling flow for new and existing players and Allied Races and it seems Death Knights and Demon Hunters will start at level 10. Will we see new Heritage Armor in 9.0?

Check out our BlizzCon 2019 Content Hub for more details!

The leveling flow for new players includes the new leveling starting zone - Exile's Reach (1-10), then Battle for Azeroth and Shadowlands.

Death Knights and Demon Hunters no longer start at level 55 and 98 respectively, but at level 10, based on MrGm's interview. As an existing player, you will be able to pick an expansion for levels 10-50 before heading to the Shadowlands. You can freely swap between expansions as an existing player by talking to Chromie.

Last, but not least, Allied Races will start at Level 10 and the flow is similar to existing characters outlined above.

Is this saying that any original race is forced into leveling in "Exile's Reach" from level 1-10? or is this just a Shadowlands themed starting zone and you can still choose to level in Durotar, Mulgore, etc?

And if you talk to Chromie to play through, let's say, Burning Crusade, are they insinuating that you get "locked" into playing through it all the way through, or can you just hearthstone and out and fly to Northrend? I hope it's more flexible than it sounded there.

I'm worried this new starting zone means we aren't going to get any more offical "races" with their own starting zones and maybe even city. probably just allied races from this point on due to how much cheaper and easier they are to make.

You can still go to the old starting zones, Exile's Reach is just a new option.

It looks like exile's reach is intended for new players, to group them all together perhaps, existing players making new chars can start where they want.

IMO, for existing going to new alts, it'd be kinda cool to skip 1-10 and go straight to choosing a path like the allied races do. Since doing exiles reach and a "mini dungeon" sounds fun the first time, then probably annoying after. That said, I'm not likely to make more than 1 new char...

Edit, read something else from the deep dive article, looks like starting an alt will start at level 10, woo

For existing players and those playing alts, the flow is a bit different. They’ll start their journey to level 10 in their race’s existing starting zone, or can choose to go to Exile's Reach, and progress to their faction’s capital cities.

Last time we had races with their own functioning capitals (not destroyed or abandoned) was in The Burning Crusade. I guess Boralus and Dazar'alor do count as well, although only small parts of them serve as capitals, with rest intended for world quests. Even worgen and goblin didn't have them, so it's safe to assume new races won't have unique starting zones and capitals. Easier for them, but it's a bit disappointing.

Think you did read this wrong, it says  They’ll start their journey to level 10 in their race’s existing starting zone and not "at level 10". So they still have to do their journey to level 10.

That makes sense, though. Currently, allied races exit their zone at level 20.

I curious about two things with the new levelling system:

1) Classic is considered to be a single expansion but it actually consisted of several racial storylines that exist in parallel. How much will a player have to do to reach level 50?

2) Any idea how they will handle various alts that we've left scattered all over the map and timeline? You know, like my disused level 100 Dwarf Paladin who is still standing around in his Garrison? (Though I really should get that Nelf DH through the last bit of the starting experience.)

I am personally just going to wait for the expansion to go live before playing anything........then when it goes live, start a fresh character from scratch.

Though i do wish they would revamp the reputation system of the Allied races to have a nice long story arc that lasts from neutral to exalted, instead of mind-numbingly boring and tedious grinding of daily quests....sorry, i mean world quests.

Yes, you will still be able to level through the earlier zones if you want. From the sound of it, Exile's Reach is just an option that you can choose if you want to catch up with the lore while leveling up. As for the earlier expansions, yes, you can choose to level through multiple expansions.

That's a huge relief! I hope they make some tweaks as well to travel systems so that you don't get "punished" time wise by wanting to level in a less traveled, more time consuming area to get to.

Indeed, I have the same worry.

Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
