Diablo 1 Playable in 4K (The Hell 2 Mod)

We a very big or very small thing to check out today, depending on how you look at it, with the original Diablo-like being presented and playable in 4k, inside the highly modified "The Hell 2" mod. You might be thinking that would look weird and "playable" is a subjective term... and you'd be right! You can actually see the entirety of the Tristram map in one screen in 4k, as well as huge chunks of the dungeon maps (also I'll issue a "feels" warning here: the best game music of all time plays in the video below, so prepare accordingly):

Now obviously this isn't really a viable way to play the game, unless you stick your face directly in your monitor, but the Hell 2 mod brings a whole lot more to the table as well. Aside from the new engine with the up to 4k resolution options, widescreen support, window modes, borderless, fullscreen and higher framerates, it also changes a lot about the base game - so if you're looking for the original experience, this isn't it.

Among the many things the mod changes and adds are 24 basic dungeon levels and 19 new quest levels, all restored quests and zones scrapped from the original, 29 new and changed classes, including Dual wielders, multishot/sniper Archers, Critters, Summoners, Trappers, Flask throwers etc, 3 new item slots and many new items... you get the idea. Here's the full list of features for the mod:

Quote

The Hell 1 is a playable Diablo 1 mod. Time-proven (was in development from 2006 to 2018), solid design, stability, rich content, immersive gameplay, true to Diablo 1 in many aspects and balanced near perfection + a lot of new stuff. Confirmed to work with Diablo GOG version.

The Hell 2 is a new Ultra HD mod for Hellfire (yes, it can run in 4K). It's released and keeps growing. TH2 offers a lot of content, features and fixes:
1. Based on Hellfire, it adds at least 50% more content than other D1 mods: 24 basic dungeon levels and 19 new quest levels in Singleplayer mode.
2. New engine: support for ultra HD, wide screen, window modes, borderless, fullscreen, switching them on the fly (Alt + Enter), higher framerates (from 20 to 1000 fps). Also, it's very stable, there are no freezes or crashes.
3. Functioning multiplayer (through Hamachi / Zerotier + IPX wrapper).: instanced and segregated loot, auto-gold pickups, dynamic difficulty (adjusts to number of players in-game)
4. ALL Diablo1 bugs fixed. You can check DSF buglist on lurkerlounge if you dont trust it.
5. A lot of new content and modernized gameplay features: items, monsters, spells, shrines, colors, monster AI.
6. Darkened atmosphere of the game. More diabolic than original.
7. 29 new and changed classes to play, with unique gameplay features: Dual wielders, multishot/sniper Archers, Critters, Summoners, Trappers, Flask throwers, life/mana Regenerators, Blockers, Damage absorbers, etc.
8. Rich options to configure: adjust the style of play to your own individual needs.
9. 4 game modes to choose from: Normal, Hardcore, Ironman and Nightmare.
10. 3 new item slots: gloves, boots, belts. 3 weapon slots to alternate between.
11. Expanded inventory. 10 x 7 instead of just 10 x 4 now.
12. Tons of new quality of life features . Unique gameplay mechanics added.
13. Restored quests that didn't make it into Diablo. Unique settings (ice levels, toxic levels, blood levels) and unique quest location features (slowdowns for attacks and casts, penalties, regeneration modifiers, spell restrictions and other challenges).
14. Remastered music in Hi-Fi stereo. Original Diablo music was mono, did you know? TH2 has better quality, stereo and more variations of music for dungeons. Over 3 hours long in total (original was about 32 minutes).

So whether you want to check out the craziness of D1 in 4K, or just get back into a highly modified version of the game, check out the mod - I mean we have to kill the time until D4 comes out somehow!
