[General] Mage Weak Auras

Recommended Posts

Since there isn't much discussion about Weak Auras in the Mage forum, and it's such a powerful and useful addon, i figured i'd start a thread about it by sharing mine.

Because i like my ui's to be as clean as possible, i decided to have a very small area at the center of the screen that displays everything i need to execute my rotations correctly.

This is what my Weak Auras look like when playing Frost:

fuLO9vu.jpg

And for Arcane:

22zhEDc.jpg

All the important cd's and procs (except the meta gem and cloak procs because i don't have them yet >.>) are at the left of the screen.

At the top i keep the timers on my Runes when i play Arcane.

The disk at the center is a timer on the duration of my Mage Bomb on my target for Living Bomb and Nether Tempest, and a cooldown timer for Frost Bomb. The small circle around is is the GCD (which starts full and becomes black just like the bomb one).

The smaller disk on the left is either my Fingers of Frost or Arcane Missiles procs, with a stack counter on top.
The disk on the right is my Brain Freeze procs or my Arcane Charge stack counts. All of these are progress textures, so they empty as the proc timer goes down.

I also monitor my Invoker's Energy or Rune of Power through a flashy 3d model, as well as my cooldown on Frozen Orb (which i forgot to screenshot). This is what happens when i have 3 or less seconds left on Invoker's Energy:

AuBBK3b.jpg

And when Invoker's or Rune of Power aren't up:

8Ku8Wsh.jpg

Finally, i have extra textures for my 2t16, as well as for when my target is frozen:

Pm5O9S3.jpg

v1TcfYw.jpg

I also have Fire auras set up, but i don't play fire right now so they are pretty unused. It's essentially identical, only on the right i put Heating Up, and on the left Hot Streak.

Here's a pastebin to the whole thing: http://pastebin.com/H7REikAx

I take no credit at all for these auras. I copied the proc layout from Kait's UI (http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info22309-KaitRestov2.html#info) and the Rune timers from Youtube:

How did you get it to work? I tried to copy and paste the whole thing from his Pastepin and then importing, gave me a few error messages.

I went to the pastebin link, copied the whole thing and attempted to import it. I get an error saying

WeakAuras

Error deserializing

... \AddOns\Ace3\AceSerializer-

3.0\AceSerializer-3.0.lua:223: Invalid

AceSerializer table format (no table end marker)

edit: Googled the issue and it seems like the error might be on your end? Is it possible to try to upload the string to a new pastebin? I just recently updated my WA2 a few days ago.

Got the same error :(

Thanks for trying though, if you want to you can try to add me on RealID and send the string to me through that. Thanks

Could anybody provide me with a weakaura for KTT/PBoI/META that displays the ICD remaining on PBoI?  I have always been more on a TellMeWhen type of guy, but am going to test out WA.

I'm really interested in this as I'm quite minimalistic and the current ones are just too messy, But it does not work and it seems the reason is WA2 cannot understand script past a certain length no matter how correct it may be, I found someone else who had a similar problem and they split it up : http://www.sacredduty.net/2012/10/23/tankadin-weakauras-strings-5-0-5/

So the best way to make this work I'd say would be to split up the different specs Frost - Arcane  .. So on, Separate import code for each.

Thanks! Looking forwards to using this. : ]

* You could also try uploading your addon and the saved data for it so we don't have to import, Not sure if you can though.

If you are interested in some more mage-specific WA strings, you should visit Altered-time.com.  They have a really big thread specifically for people to share the WA they use.  I found a lot of good ones there.

I looked, Can't see anything in particular that I'm interested in, This particular one is what I'm looking for so keen on being able to use it.
Pity you can't add it manually.

The time to death aura is amazing

Seriously, this was the best one I found! It's been SO useful when planning my second Icy Veins/Alter Time use in a fight.

The weakaura he refers to in the youtube video you linked is flawed and unnecessarily complicated.

Your runes operate as shaman totems in the same way Warriors skull and demo banners do

Add the following trigger: Status -> Totem -> Earth

For the next rune, use Fire totem.

Would be nice if the Original Poster would check the replies sometime, Especially since the WeakAura import code he's put in does not work for anyone.

Holy crap i had no idea this thread would actually be alive. I haven't been paying attention to IV in forever since im taking a break from raiding until WoD, sorry about that. Glad to see Berlinia took care of stuff.

@Shedim: oh, thanks. I didn't create that aura, nice to know there's an easier way to do stuff.

Hello!

I have played a frost mage pretty much exclusively forevers. It's my favorite and I will continue to play it. However, after raiding 2x per week since MoP, I am interested in learning a new thing. Why not fire! Yes, I will need to get a new outfit to match this spec, but that's another thread....

Anywho!

I am working hard to get my fancy fire mage rotation down. The whole heating up, pyroblast!, and combustion tips and tricks listed on this website are awesome. It's just going to take me more practice. I was hoping someone could help me develop weak auras so I can start "getting it right" with my rotation and putting it more to muscle memory.

Anyone have something like that?

I would like to see if there is an aura that will help prompt me to do some of the things found here. Here are some of the things I'm fumbling with:

IGNITE & COMBUSTION

1. Always remembering to keep Ignite refreshed

  • Highlighting the fireball icon that reminds to filler cast w/ fireball at the target? Or inferno blast if it is off cool down? Does that seem accurate for the majority of situations?

2. Cast combustion with a high ignite.

  • This one feels trickier based on the options to create a situation w/ high ignite, so need ideas on best way for WA to prompt me here.

PYROBLAST & HEATING UP

3. Utilize the Heating Up & Pyroblast buffs for maximum damage

  • This one is by far the one I'm struggling the most with right now. I'm at the stabbing buttons part hoping I get it right, but I feel like having a WA that guides me a little more in the moment will help me get the hang of it.

Looking for feedback, input, and instruction on the best way to go about it in general as I try to wrap my head around fiery awesome. My frost mage rotation, with all its nuances, is so absolutely committed to memory that this feels like learning a new skill. smile.png

      CYRUS | https://www.cyrus-gaming.com
      ALLIANCE, EU | English Speaking
Guild History | Guild Code | Apply

Established in 2009, Cyrus is a guild with its roots in MMO games reaching back to Warhammer Online. We are an organised and dedicated guild completely committed to getting the best out of our players while trying to keep track of where the fun is. We aren't afraid to put the hard work in, try out new strategies and we certainly aren't the type to give up after the first wipe - we will adapt, refocus and find a way to reach our objective.
Although Cyrus has at times been considered an elite guild, we are certainly not looking for elitist players. We value teamwork and positive attitude far more than individual ego and rhetoric. We recognise that we are only as good as those we run with, and that means if we want to improve we must improve not only ourselves but those around us. This is not achieved through bragging, whining or quitting - it's achieved through patience, practise and hard work. It's not about how good any individual is, it's about how good your group is and how you can work with others to improve it.
Cyrus is not a casual guild, and we have been greatly put off by the increasingly casual nature of MMOs recently. To us, guild and realm pride should mean something. We don't spam invite players, we ask members to apply to join us because they see something in us that they want to participate in. And in return, we work tirelessly to place the right people in the right groups, increase our players awareness and knowledge of the game and their class, and to organise varied and epic guild events that we will remember for years to come.
If you are looking to make your journey through World of Warcraft Classic legendary, and you are prepared to put the time and effort in to maximise not only your own, but your teams play style and skill, then Cyrus is the guild for you. You will need a thick skin, a good sense of humour, the discipline to know when to speak up and when to shut up, and the dedication to constantly evolve and improve.

This is a condensed version of our guild history. To read the full version, please click here.
We started life in Warhammer Online in March 2009 (originally called Exodus) and became the largest and most active Order PvP guild on the Karak-Norn server. We played a central role in co-ordinating our faction, hosting cross-alliance community initiatives to try and bring the many guilds and alliances on the server together in an attempt to take the fight to the numerically superior Destruction side.

Cyrus in Warhammer, known as Exodus. We fought for Order on Karak-Norn
We later moved to Aion where we became a top 10 ranked Elyos PvP guild on the Perento server. Intending to pursue our enjoyment of PvP, we were one of the primary guilds in the early days of the game, however the severe PvE grind and lack of meaningful PvP content meant that our player base changed somewhat and we became more of a PvE guild with occasional raids in the Abyss. We refocused when the ground PvP patch was released and had a lot more fun.

Cyrus in Aion. We fought for Elyos on Perento. Embracing the grind…
In Rift we combined these two playstyles and became unquestionably the most successful and talked about PvP guild on our server, all the while maintaining competitive PvE raids that cleared all content in the game. We were yet again the leading guild when it came to organising our faction, setting up server-wide PvP events to increase participation and enjoyment for all in the game.
Such was our success in the PvP lakes that we eventually ran out of opposition to fight against, so we transferred servers looking for new challenges. Our influence was so great that most guilds from both factions followed our move, and within a few weeks our previous server was transformed from the busiest EU PvP server to a trial realm!

Cyrus in Rift. We fought for Guardians on Whitefall. We dominated the PvP until everyone else quit crying.
After a brief spell in SWTOR, which was completely awful, we moved to World of Warcraft (Horde, Stormscale) in 2012. While we obviously didn’t find any Open World PvP, we did enjoy the challenges of running three Rated Battlegrounds teams, with the occasional Raid to pass the time. During our first full Rated Battlegrounds season we managed to take a group of mostly new-to-WoW players to a legitimate 2200+ rating, something that was not so simple to do as a guild in this game with all the win-traders and cheats.

Cyrus in WoW. From zero to 2200+, proving the doubters wrong!
Since then, we have dabbled in Final Fantasy XIV and been back to WoW. But these were the beginning of barren times, as games such as Guild Wars 2 and Wildstar, which should have been natural homes for guilds such as ours, failed to deliver on expectations. In 2016 we launched 'Club Cyrus' - a more casual multiplayer gaming initiative enabling us to at least play something together - Rocket League, The Division, Chivalry, Ghost Recon, etc. And while these games each gave us many hours of light entertainment, we have always yearned for an MMO to come along and do it old-school again, to give us a real home to stick with and build our characters and guild over 1000's of hours. Something that requires old-school effort, commitment and team work. Something that can help us escape our drab real lives, and instead transform into better looking, more in-shape, possibly even female (!) avatars with gloriously pixelated wardrobes that speak of our daring and courageous deeds on the virtual battlefield!

A typical Cyrus group lines up for a picture: Bruce, Dave, Steve, Alan and Dan.

      WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
While we have a strong core that are committed to giving up their social lives from August 27th, we need more bodies to throw on the pile. That’s where you come in! Cyrus is an 'old school' MMO guild, and we are looking for members who want to become part of a greater community, who want to put the effort in and earn their achievements rather than get carried.
We are looking for intelligent, active and friendly players to join our ranks. In World of Warcraft Classic, we are hoping to create a successful guild with outstanding organisation, solid progression and a shared objective. We want dedicated and reliable players who are in it for the long haul, who will not quit at the first or second hurdle, and will hold out for the payoff that such a team of players deserve. No elitism, no egos, and plenty of patience, reality and understanding. Ok, maybe a little bit of elitism!
Members should take the time to learn their class and skills, and how they can best benefit their guild teams. Being an excellent individual player is great, but it is far more important to be an excellent team player, to follow instructions, and to know when to stop joking around, focus, and stop standing in the lava! Your goals should be that of the guild as a whole, not of yourself.
Members are required to use Discord and have a clear, working microphone. We welcome members from all over the world, however we do ask that in guild chat and Discord English is used at all times.

      WHAT WE CAN OFFER
Cyrus is an experienced, focused, progression-based guild for mature, skilled and team-orientated players. We offer Discord voice communications with a mostly family-friendly atmosphere, as well as our own website which is used to organise pretty much everything we do. We have a long-established leadership who is committed to getting the most out of our members and ensuring everyone is working towards their own and the common goals of the guild.

Guild levelling PvP event in Rift. If you haven't experienced being in a really great guild before, get it right for WoW Classic!
We have a strong community spirit, and thanks to our successful recruitment in previous games, a very welcoming attitude towards new members of any experience level so long as they are prepared to put the time in. We do not form cliques, and we do not favour members based on their time or rank within the guild.
While Cyrus’ main objective will be clearing raid content, we are a guild steeped in the rich tradition of PvP and as such, you can expect organised Battlegrounds and World PvP nights. Our current plan is to raid two evenings per week, provisionally on Wednesdays and Sundays.

      HOW TO APPLY
If this sounds like your kind of guild, then please check out our website, read our Guild Code, and feel free to apply on our forums. Please also feel free to include any questions you may have with your application.
      Thanks for reading!
