Is Patch 9.0.5 The First Minor Patch of Shadowlands?

Recommended Posts

510XyA2.jpg

Yesterday, we reported about an encrypted Build 37477 of Patch 9.0.5. In this article, we're speculating about what we might see added based on minor patch history from previous expansions.

It's really not common for Blizzard to start an expansion with a minor content patch instead of a major one, but given that there's an encrypted 9.0.5 build, we're speculating that the patch could be the first for Shadowlands.

Blizzard also mentioned they want to add flying in the first major content patch of Shadowlands, which is likely 9.1 and not 9.0.5...

So without further ado, let's put on our tinfoil hats and start speculating!

What Blizzard Added in Patch 8.1.5

To determine the contents of Patch 9.0.5, we're looking at what Blizzard added in Battle for Azeroth's first minor content patches: Patch 8.1.5 and Patch 8.2.5.

  • Continuation of the War Campaign
  • Crucible of the Storm raid
  • Kul Tiran Human and Zandalari Troll Allied Races
  • Darkmoon Faire roller coaster
  • Children's Week update
  • New Microholidays
  • Warlords of Draenor Timewalking
  • Portal rooms in Orgrimmar and Stormwind
  • Tools of the Trade Profession questlines
  • Return of the Brawler's Guild
  • Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin remastered
  • New PvP Brawl: AI Comp Stomp
  • Battle for Wintergrasp Epic Battleground

What Was Added in Patch 8.2.5

  • War Campaign Conclusion
  • Model update for Goblin and Worgen
  • Recruit-a-Friend revamp
  • WoW's 15th anniversary
  • Timewalking Raid: Firelands
  • Party Sync
  • Honeyback Hive faction and bee mount
  • Goblin and Worgen Heritage Armor Sets (didn't make it live in 8.2.5)

What We Might See in Patch 9.0.5

We think we'll see the continuation of the Covenant campaign, and Blizzard will likely increase the current Renown cap too in 9.0.5. Minor Torghast improvements aren't off the table either. The mode needs more modifiers to make it interesting throughout the expansion, and so does the Maw.

Legion is two expansions old now, so it makes perfect sense to add Legion Timewalking to the game as well.

Patch 8.2.5 also added the Honeyback Hive faction, so a new reputation and rewards in Patch 9.0.5 aren't a terrible guess.

We will likely also see some holiday updates, but it's tough to point down the exact details at this time.

It's interesting to point out that Goblin and Worgen Heritage Armor sets were also supposed to debut in Patch 8.2.5, but they got eventually delayed, so new Heritage Armor sets for existing races would be nice too!

To sum up, here's what we think we'll see in Patch 9.0.5 that's likely to be unveiled at BlizzConline 2021 on February 19.

TL;DR:

  • New Covenant Campaign Chapters
  • Renown cap increase
  • More end-game content in the Maw
  • Torghast tweaks
  • Legion Timewalking
  • New faction & rewards
  • Holiday updates
  • Heritage Armor sets for existing races

If there's a "small raid" or new Mythic dungeon that comes with it. Maybe it's the House of Chosen in Maldraxxus. In the campaign arcs that's one of the few loose ends. Vyraz is still out there, and I feel like it makes more sense for him to be the "big bad" in a small raid, rather than a "little bad" in a future raid.

Wasn't flying was promised with the first major patch and that the first major patch supposed to be 9.1?

Yes and yes, this isn't a major patch. There's a clue to that in the title of the article...

I do more than read the title of the articles. What is being speculated on in the article is not content for minor patches. You should probably read the article and not just the title.

Executive Producer Holly Longdale teased some upcoming experimental PvE-focused content that Blizzard will soon reveal to the community.
It appears that Plunderstorm isn't the only new mode Blizzard plans to add to WoW this year.
Holly Longdale today teased an upcoming PvE-oriented event that will soon be revealed to us. Holly might be talking about the "Timerunning Pandamonium," expected in Patch 10.2.7.

      Greetings Citizens of Azeroth,
It’s been great seeing so many players taking the plunge into Plunderstorm and we’ve loved seeing all of the stories and feedback as this experimental event evolves. It will be exciting to see some of the community content creators going head-to-head as duos during the Plunderstorm Creator Royale on March 30!  This isn’t the end of the things we want to try in World of Warcraft, however, and we have more in store we can’t wait to show you.
Dragonflight Season 4 is in route as testing begins on the PTR and we’ll have more news to share soon™ on the next experiment we have up our sleeves. We hope those of you who are looking for PvE focused content will enjoy what we’re planning, all while we continue to press forward on development of our next expansion for World of Warcraft— The War Within.
We can’t wait to share with you all the many things the team has been hard at work on.
With gratitude and excitement for what we’ll do together next,
      Holly Longdale

Dragonflight Season 4 adds a new world quest for Spark of Awakening.
To get your Spark of Awakening, you must complete a different quest every week.
The weekly quest is available from Therazal in central Valdrakken. There are 3 options, but only one is active every week, similar to how Awakened raids rotate.

      Dragon Isles Quest
Participate in a Community Feast Participate in a Hunt Lay siege to Dragonbane Keep Zaralek Cavern Quest
Protect the Researchers Under Fire Loot a Secured Shipment (Suffusion Camp) Complete a Time Rift Amirdrassil Quest
Earn 50 Bloom during the Superbloom Complete a Superbloom Plant 3 Dreamseeds Quest Rewards
Completing any of the 3 quests above grants the Season 4 spark fragment (Splintered Spark of Awakening) via Weekly Awakened Activity and a Cache of Awakened Storms.
You will need two Splintered Spark of Awakening and 250 Flightstones to create one Spark of Awakening.
