Sepulcher of the First Ones Mythic and Heroic DPS Log Rankings, Week 10: Destruction Analysis

Recommended Posts

We have some changes to the rankings after last week's class tuning that saw 6 classes get buffed, but the very top remained the same. We're also taking a more detailed look at why Destruction is dominating the Mythic rankings, as our class writer Motoko explains ahead of our switch to Mythic as the focus next week.

Heroic

95th Percentile

The top 3 is very solid and has remained the same, as predicted, with Survival dropping off ever so slightly. Balance is back with a vengeance this week as both it and Shadow push Enhancement out of the way, and Destruction is slowly rising here in Heroic as well, as it inches 2 spots up. Frost Mage pushes Fire aside by the slightest of margins to take the final top 10 spot, as we see Retribuition drop a few spots. The class tuning hasn't really had a significant effect yet, as Affliction, Beast Mastery and Outlaw remain at the bottom, and Arms and Windwalker aren't doing much better either.

All Percentiles

We have a change in the top 3 in the generalist bracket, as Frost DKs take Demonology down, and Survival remains on top. Enhancement actually moves up here as it reclaims the No.4 spot from Shadow, and Unholy moves 1 up into 9th, with Subtlety closing out the top 10. Arms does get a big boost from the tuning buff here, unlike the other specs, with a 5 spot leap making it join Fury around the middle of the pack.

Mythic

No surprises here as Destruction is destroying the charts once again, so let's see why as our class guide writer Motoko explains:

Destruction rise to dominance should be of no surprise, but in reality is a consequence of a severe underestimation. A spec originally tuned to be average at best in single target but with a great and versatile toolkit, whose only glaring shortcoming is mobility, has been for long limited by very mediocre legendaries and a talent setup reliant on overloaded skills such as Cataclysm.

Patch 9.2 introduced tier sets, among other power creep systems, which in the case of Destruction enables an almost exhilarating gameplay loop (thanks to the increased shard flow) and most importantly breaks the mold on talent selection.

The negative aspect? It is overtuned. By a sizeable margin (coincidentally similar to the welfare flat 5% aura buff received, although one might say baseline the spec sort of needed it). It is yet another reminder how altering shard generation can skyrocket Destruction performance (similarly to what happened with Essences in BfA). Now the raid obviously has very favorable fights (and bugged interactions in the case of Rygelon and spammable Kyrian's Scouring Tithe Scouring Tithe), where Destruction leaves everyone else in the dust, but it should be noted that these occasions stem from situations with multiple targets and/or way to generate additional resources, otherwise fights like Halondrus are the spec worst scenario.

While we have the same classes in the top here as in Heroic, it's a different Warlock spec on top as Destro continues to dominate, thanks in large part to Rygelon as noted above. Demo isn't too far behind, however, as it sits in 4th and is just waiting for its chance. Unholy DKs are making a GIANT move up this week, from a 3rd to last spot the last time we looked to No.6! We'll be focusing more on Mythic next week, as we flip the rankings and focus on the maximum difficulty instead.

Blizzard is breaking the faction divide in Patch 9.2.5 allowing friends from the opposite faction to play together. Check out the official preview of cross-faction instances coming in the latest patch!
      (Source)
Make frenemies of your enemies when you party with players from the opposing faction!
As initially outlined in a previous post, cross-faction instances will break the faction divide by allowing friends from the opposite faction to play together. It will also expand opportunities for players to pursue their favorite group content.
      Grouping Up
To invite members of the opposite faction to a party, players must have a BattleTag or Real ID friendship or be members of a cross-faction WoW Community.
Players will have the ability to find Premade Groups in the Group Finder for dungeons (Normal, Heroic, Mythic, and Mythic+), raids, rated arena/RBGs, and also Torghast. However, the group leader may restrict the listing to same-faction applicants if they choose.
Once in a party, members of the opposite faction will remain unfriendly while outside of instances, though they will be able to communicate through party and raid chat, as well as use /say and /yell within proximity of one another.

Upon entering a dungeon, raid, or rated PvP match, however, all members will be friendly and able to assist each other in combat, trade loot, earn shared achievements, and otherwise fully engage the same way members of the same faction do.
      Guilds
Guilds will remain single-faction, and random matchmade activities like Heroic dungeons, Skirmishes, or Random Battlegrounds will all remain same-faction.
      Legacy Instances

The functionality of the cross-faction instance feature will also apply to legacy instances and is available at all levels. However, there will be several older instances that cross-faction parties cannot enter due to faction-specific components, and they are:
Trial of the Champion Trial of the Crusader Vault of Archavon Icecrown Citadel Baradin Hold Siege of Boralus Battle of Dazar'alor Darkmaul Citadel (Exile's Reach dungeon) Cross-faction instances are ready for you to reach across the faction divide in the Shadowlands 9.2.5 content update. We'll see you in the Azeroth!

Content creator MrGM found a glitch that allowed him to create a cross-faction guild on the Patch 9.2.5 PTR.
Blizzard clearly stated that guilds will remain single-faction in Patch 9.2.5 in a blue post about cross-faction instances.
      (Source)
Guilds will remain single-faction, and random matchmade activities like Heroic dungeons, Skirmishes, or Random Battlegrounds will all remain same-faction (both because there is less faction-driven pressure around random groups, and to avoid compromising the opt-in nature of the feature by randomly placing a queuing orc in a group with a night elf). However, content creator MrGM found a glitch that allowed him to break the system and create a cross-faction guild on the Patch 9.2.5 PTR.
The group went with a guild charter into Torghast and created a guild there. Probably any cross-faction content would work to replicate the bug. Players of the opposite faction were able to sign the guild charter it and when the guild was created, each player could invite players from their faction into the guild, meaning Alliance players could invite other Alliance players to join and vice-versa.
