From Chat Bubbles to Jungle Cruises: FFXIV Media Tour Highlights!

Recommended Posts

The FFXIV Media Tour embargo was lifted today, which means that various content creators revealed new details and information about Dawntail!

The Final Fantasy XIV Media Tour is a significant event prior to the release of a new expansion. During this period, content creators and media from around the globe engage in a host of activities and interviews and get a first-in-game look at the new expansion and its features.

Streamer and content creator Mike, aka. Preach, from Preach Gaming, had the opportunity to participate in the Media Tour and shared a very informative video. He interviewed Yoshi-P in person and tested some aspects of Dawntrail.

You can check out the interview video below:

One of the most important pieces of information from the interview is the announcement that Yoshi-P and his team are developing and testing the long-awaited Chat Bubbles. Many MMOs feature these bubbles near a character when they speak, and FFXIV players have been looking forward to this addition for a very long time. While they will not be included with Dawntail, there is hope that they may appear in a later patch or expansion.

Another anticipated feature that Preach tested is the double dye system:

Preach Media Tour.jpg

The process appears to be pretty intuitive: the menu keeps its familiar layout, with the addition of a second dye option. Preach mentioned that the menu is straightforward to navigate and easy to use.

During the Media Tour, Preach also explored some of the new zones and tested the Viper and Pictomancer, which are detailed in his video above. Furthermore, the video also includes footage of the Jungle Cruise Dungeon, which presents an intriguing start: the dungeon beings on a sort of ship navigating through the jungle, with the party searching for an entry into the city while they are slightly goofing around.

Another interesting and insightful part of the interview with Yoshi-P was the discussion about embracing risk. The team has been cautious, holding back on ideas and mechanics for fear of negative reception. Yoshi-P expressed that while they appreciate praise for their work, the concern of making players angry has been limiting them over the years. To that end, Yoshi-P and his team have resolved to challenge themselves once more and to embrace the possibility of failure.

Watch Preach's full video for a more detailed view of the entire interview and in-game footage. And, as always, we will keep you posted on Dawntrail news and updates as they become available!
