What Is the Path of Preservation in Honkai: Star Rail?

The Path of Preservation represents characters who protect allies by generating shields, taunting enemies, and reducing incoming damage. These characters are focused on keeping your team safe and stable, especially in difficult content where survival is key.

Combat Role and Gameplay

Preservation characters serve as the Tanks for your team. Their kits often include shielding, damage reduction, and taunt mechanics that draw enemy attacks away from more squishy teammates. Some also provide buffs or utility, like cleansing debuffs or counterattacking.

Unlike damage-focused Paths like Erudition or The Hunt, Preservation characters focus entirely on survivability. Their value is in preventing your team from taking lethal damage and making sure your damage dealers can stay alive long enough to do their job.

These characters typically are particularly effective in endgame content where bosses hit hard. Having a strong Preservation unit can often be the difference between clearing and failing late-game stages.

They pair well with Abundance characters for full defensive setups, or with high-burst comps that need a strong front line to absorb aggro and buy time for the DPS.
