Paths Overview in Honkai: Star Rail

In Honkai: Star Rail, characters follow specific Paths which determine their combat roles, such as dealing damage, shielding allies, healing, or supporting the team in other ways. Understanding each Path will help you build better teams that will fit different types of encounters.

What Are Paths Honkai: Star Rail?

To make it simple, you can consider Path as Honkai: Star Rail's version of Classes. While you can technically split the characters into DPS, Heal, Tank, in Honkai you want to split them per Path. Each Path will be specific to a unique mechanic such as Shielding, DoTs, Break, DPS, Healing, Support... Characters are permanently aligned to one Path, which will generally tell you about their kit and best synergies.

As of right now, there is a total of 14 different Paths in the lore of Honkai: Star Rail, but only 8 of them are playable. The 8 Paths that your playable characters can be a part of are:

  • The Hunt
  • The Destruction
  • The Erudition
  • The Remembrance
  • The Nihility
  • The Harmony
  • The Preservation
  • The Abundance

The 6 other Paths are mentioned during the Story multiple times, but do not have any playable character directly attached to them. It is currently unknown if those paths will end up being playable as well, or if they are just part of the lore:

  • The Trailblaze
  • The Elation
  • The Propagator
  • The Enigmata
  • The Beauty
  • The Voracity

Listed below are all the different Paths, their role, and the characters attached to them.

The Hunt Path specializes in high single-target damage. These characters are ideal for quickly eliminating priority threats or bosses.

Characters on the Path of Destruction are balanced damage dealers who can shine in both single-target and AoE scenarios. They have also good survivability, making them really strong. Be careful, most Destruction characters do need to consume their own HP to deal more damage.

Erudition characters are AoE specialists, capable of clearing waves of enemies using powerful multi-target attacks.

Remembrance characters are summoning specialists. One of their skills will allow you to summon their partner/pet during the fight. The summon typically can deal DMG, buff, debuff enemies, shield or heal.

Nihility characters weaken enemies through debuffs such as DEF Reduction, DoT, or crowd control. They are great for setting up damage dealers by inflicting a ton of negative effects on the enemies.

The Harmony Path provides team-wide buffs to boost allies in combat. They are essential in most teams if you want to make the most out of your DPS.

Preservation characters focus on shielding allies, mitigating damage, or even taunting enemies. They will help you survive the hardest endgame content by essentially protecting you.
