Elation Primer
In any teams that have an Elation character you will be supported by Aha. Aha will appear in the turn over with their own SPD and cannot be interacted with via action advance effects like Dance! Dance! Dance!. Additionally, the time till Aha's next turn will not reset when progressing through content with multiple waves.
Elation Damage is based on character level, stacks of Punchline or Certified Banger, and Elation%. Elation Damage is not increased by sources of DMG%, nor is it scaled by ATK%. Elation Damage can critically strike and works fully with CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG.
Each time Aha acts he will trigger an "Aha Instant". During an Aha Instant Aha will record the current amount of Punchline then all Elation characters will use their Elation Skill. The amount of Elation damage each characters Elation Skill will deal is based on the amount of Punchline.
After the Aha Instant ends each character will gain stacks of "Certified Banger" for 2 turns (3 for Yao Guang with her A2 Trace Felicity Ensemble). These stacks will track their duration independently and are used in place of Punchline stacks for calculating Elation damage outside of Aha Instant.
Aha's SPD is calculated by taking a base SPD of 80 and then adding 1/5th of the SPD of your fastest Elation character, plus 1/10th of the 2nd fastest Elation character. We assume you will also get 1/15th of the 3rd fastest Elation character but there is not one in the game yet.
We strongly recommend getting Aha to at least 120 SPD as this is a breakpoint for Anomaly Arbitration. Getting Aha to 134 SPD is possible but an extremely costly investment and we do not recommend shooting for this unless you have Eidolon 2 on Yao Guang.
In order to achieve 120 SPD for Aha you will need 200 SPD on Yao Guang if she is the only Elation Character. In teams with Sparxie at her base SPD you will need at least 147 SPD on Yao Guang. The higher Sparxie's SPD the less SPD Yao Guang will need (For every 2 SPD Sparxie has, Yao Guang will need 1 less SPD).
In order to achieve 134 SPD for Aha you would need 270 SPD for a single Elation character which is not feasible. With two Elation Characters with the 2nd Character at 140 SPD you will need 200 SPD on Yao Guang. For each additional 2 SPD on the 2nd Elation Character Yao Guang will need 1 less SPD.
In order to achieve 200 SPD on Yao Guang you will need to have her Signature Light Cone, 6% SPD from Diviner of Distant Reach and 18 SPD substat rolls on average. With an additional 6% SPD set you will only need 15 SPD substat rolls which is slightly easier. While possible, this is an excessive amount of SPD and is extremely hard to reach without having Yao Guang's E2 Blind Arrows Guided by Feathers.
Character Explanation
Yao Guang is an Elation Support who grants a large array of damage boosting effects to her teammates with the most significant affecting Elation Characters.
One of Yao Guang's most important abilities is her Ultimate Hexagram of Feathered Fortune which will give Aha an Extra Turn causing him to act immediately and start an Aha Instant. During this Extra Turn he will count a fixed quantity of Punchline and not consume any Punchline from DPS. This additional Aha Instant will add stacks of Certified Banger to everyone. After using her Ultimate she will increase the All-Type RES Pen of allies.
Yao Guang also has a powerful support Zone that needs to be maintained from her Skill Decalight Unveils All. This will increase the Elation of all allies by a fraction of Yao Guang's. This can be a very significant DPS boost if your Yao Guang has high SPD thanks to Amaze-In Grace adding 1 Elation per SPD over 120.
Yao Guang's Elation Skill Let Thy Fortune Burst in Flames will apply a 16% increased damage taken debuff on all enemies hit helping further boost team DPS.
Yao Guang's Talent Behold Wherever Light Unfolds adds flat Elation damage to a random enemy hit by ally attacks while Yao Guang has Certified Banger. If the allied attack consumed skill points then an additional Elation damage event is launched. This Elation damage will scale with the highest Elation between Yao Guang and the attacking Ally to make sure it will always deal maximum damage.
Yao Guang's A2 Trace Felicity Ensemble makes stacks of Certified Banger last for an additional turn on Yao Guang. This is effectively a damage increase to Yao Guang's Elation DMG by giving her higher average stacks of Certified Banger than other characters will have.
Yao Guang's A4 Trace Poised and Sated makes Yao Guang generate a Skill Point every time her Elation Skill is used during an Aha Instant. This makes Yao Guang one of the best Supports for generating Skill Points.
Yao Guang's A6 Trace Amaze-In Grace makes additional SPD over 120 increase her Elation, significantly increasing the amount of Elation that Yao Guang has.
Build Advice
When building Yao Guang we suggest trying to build as much SPD as you can get. While there are breakpoints that allow her to act an additional time or for Aha to act an additional time SPD is always valuable as it scales her Elation thanks to her A6 Trace Amaze-In Grace.
While stacking SPD is the most important thing to do you should not neglect your CRIT Rate and should favour items that have as much combined SPD, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG as possible. Yao Guang contributes a reasonable amount of damage to the team making this worthwhile.
If you are not trying to get Aha to the 134 SPD breakpoint then we suggest only getting 160 SPD as this allows you to focus on other stats and get Yao Guang a very healthy amount of CRIT Stats. If you have her Signature Light Cone you could get 180 SPD to give Yao Guang an additional action in Anomaly Arbitration which can get you an extra Aha Instant from her Ultimate.
We strongly suggest always using an Energy Regeneration Rate rope as Yao Guang's ultimate is very powerful and has a high cost. Using an Energy Regeneration Rate Rope and Energy Regeneration Rate Planar Ornament makes her Ultimate 1 Turn faster giving you higher uptime and more stacks of Certified Banger.
As Planar Ornaments cannot roll any useful damaging Main Stat for Yao Guang we suggest using either HP% or DEF% as defensive stats are still valuable. We would recommend using whatever rolls the best substats.
We suggest using a CRIT Rate Body Armour as CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG both increase Yao Guangs DPS while other options do not. We suggest using CRIT Rate as it will make reaching 100% in combat CRIT Rate easier and Yao Guang gets 60% CRIT DMG from her A4 Trace Poised and Sated.
Yao Guang's Best Eidolons
Yao Guang's Eidolons are heavily focused around Elation Teams and we only suggest vertically investing into Yao Guang if you wish to invest in the long term potential of Elation Teams.
Yao Guang has a very powerful Eidolon 1 Chuckle Chimes Where Jade Falls — This Eidolon gives all allies 20% DEF Ignore for Elation Damage and more Punchline during her Ultimate's Extra Aha Instants.
Yao Guang also has a strong Eidolon 2 Blind Arrows Guided by Feathers — This Eidolon grants a significant boost of SPD to your entire team which will speed up Aha resulting in more Aha Instants. The additional Elation is also a large damage boost for Elation units.
We do not suggest investing beyond Eidolon 2 as it is significantly less efficient thanks to her Eidolon 3 and 5. Despite that, Yao Guang has an unusually potent Eidolon 4 Threads of Fate Colored by Plumes and a solid Eidolon 6 Ferried Along the Astral Arc. These will still be less efficient to pick up than investing in the Eidolons from your other units like Sparxie.
