Lei Shi Encounter Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
Lei Shi is a frightened elemental water spirit corrupted by the Sha and forced to fight. She constantly tries to avoid players by either hiding, or attempting to push them away with powerful magic. She panics frequently throughout the fight, summoning adds and increasing her damage dealt as she loses more and more health.
Role-Specific Tips for Lei Shi
DPS Tips
- Place your AoE spread out through the room to end
Hide as soon as possible; try to coordinate the areas you will place your own AoE spell with other raiders, avoiding overlap if possible.
- Try to deal as much burst damage as possible to Lei Shi after
Get Away! starts, trying to deal 4% of her health as quickly as possible; save combo points, instant casts, and various similar cooldowns and spells for this if possible.
- If on Heroic difficulty, use personal cooldowns when you have high stacks of
Scary Fog, as the tanks will need most external cooldowns later into the fight.
Healer Tips
- Try to help by using AoE spells (if you have any) during
Hide to quickly break Lei Shi out of stealth, and stop
Spray from hitting random targets.
- Tanks will take a ton of damage during this encounter the longer it goes on; have defensive cooldowns coordinated for the last 20% of the fight or your tanks will easily die.
Tank Tips
- Lei Shi will slowly move towards you while casting, allowing you eventually position her as needed.
- Tanks should aim to perform a tank swap on Lei Shi right before the
Animated Protector adds spawn, resetting stacks of
Spray as the adds come out.
- Remember that Lei Shi will continue casting
Spray while she is immune to damage, requiring you to stay away from other players; it is also still possible to perform a tank swap while she is immune, if needed.
- With Lei Shi gaining stacks of
Afraid the longer the fight goes on, this causes tanks to get absolutely destroyed in the bottom 40% of the encounter; always aim to have a cooldown ready here and tank swap more frequently as needed to match the debuff stacks, which are stacking very quickly late into the encounter.
Strategy for Lei Shi
Lei Shi is the third encounter in Terrace of Endless Spring, and is a
straightforward fight with only 1 Phase. Lei Shi does not use melee
attacks and instead will attack the tank with
Spray,
dealing moderate Frost damage to the target and all allies within 3.5 yards;
Spray also applies a stacking debuff that increases Frost
damage taken by 16% per stack. This will require a tank swap every 12-16
stacks, as the
Spray stacks will quickly add up, causing the tank
to take lethal damage eventually. Be mindful of your positioning as a tank when
taunting, as
Spray also hits all players within 3.5 yards of you.
To complicate this tank swap further, each time Lei Shi loses 10%
health she a stack of Afraid, increasing her casting speed by
8% per stack. This means that as Lei Shi reaches lower health,
she will cast
Spray on the tank faster and faster, quickly adding
up stacks of the debuff. This will require a precise rotation of defensive cooldowns
on the tanks to keep them alive once Lei Shi reaches a lower health,
with permanent defensive cooldowns needed under 20%, or several combat
resses available. Tanks will need to practice when and how to tank swap when
Lei Shi reaches lower health thresholds, as
Spray becomes
extremely deadly for the last 20% of the encounter.
Adds and Hide
Every time Lei Shi loses 20% health (so at 80%, 60%,
40%, and 20% health respectively), she will become immune to all
damage and summon multiple adds. These adds, Animated Protectors, deal
extremely high damage, and must be killed before Lei Shi can be
attacked again. Luckily, only 1 of the adds must be killed, as the rest will
despawn as soon as one add dies; this allows us to use crowd-control on as many
of the Animated Protectors as possible, ideally CCing all but the main
kill target. Mark 1 mob with skull, and always have a designated kill target
(such as stating we always kill the furthest North mob first), focusing all damage
on said mob.
Use crowd controls such as Banish, stuns, and knock backs to control the
remaining adds, while the tank kites away from them (if needed), avoiding taking damage from
any Animated Protector add except the kill target (marked skull). Note that
despite Lei Shi being immune to damage, she will continue to cast
Spray on her current target, requiring tanks to use cooldowns and
swap as needed. We suggest performing a tank swap right before each 20% health
threshold, so the current Lei Shi tank can start with 0 stacks of
Spray. The goal here is to keep all Animated Protectors
crowd controlled, stunned, or knocked away while quickly focusing down a single
add, allowing Lei Shi to be damaged again.
Every 30-40 seconds Lei Shi will use 1 of 2 "special abilities", the first being
Hide. When
Hide is used, Lei Shi will
become stealthed and move around the room randomly. This can be seen by watching
the surrounding water, looking for a cloud that indicates Lei Shis
location. While stealthed, Lei Shi will use
Spray on a
random target, requiring the entire raid to spread out to avoid the splash
damage. Have players assigned to placing AoE spells down all over the water,
as you must score several hits on Lei Shi while she is in stealth to
end
Hide. Spells such as
Death and Decay and
Rain of Fire
(non-targeted spells) are what’s needed, and the raid should use any remaining
spells on top of Lei Shi once she has been found. After
Hide
ends and Lei Shi appears, position her once again in the middle of the
room.
Get Away and Finishing the Fight
The second "special ability" that Lei Shi can use every 30-40 seconds
is
Get Away!. Lei Shi will teleport to the center of the
platform and begins to channel
Get Away! for 45-seconds, using
powerful winds to push all players away from her, dealing high damage every
second. This damage is reduced by half if players are "fighting" the wind by
moving against it, towards Lei Shi. Dealing 4% of Lei Shis
health during the
Get Away! channel will end the spell early,
stopping the winds and the damage-over-time.
We suggest having the raid stacked up near Lei Shi, who is tanked on
the center of the platform, and running towards her once the Get Away!
channel begins. The goal is to deal 4% of Lei Shis health as quickly
as possible to end the cast, so Melee DPS should be in a proper position as to
not lose any uptime on her, while Ranged will need to use any instant cast spells
or spells that can be used while moving to contribute. Once the
Get Away!
channel is broken the raid should stack behind Lei Shi.
The fight is a simple repeat of these 2 abilities occasionally throughout
the fight, with the main challenge being keeping the tanks alive through
Spray, and handling the Animated Protector adds every
20% health. We suggest using raid-wide defensive cooldowns during
Get Away!, as there is really no other great time to use them,
while saving some defensive cooldowns for the tanks once Lei Shi reaches
about 20% health. You will want to use all major DPS cooldowns right after
Lei Shi reaches 40% health and you have killed the Animated Protector
add, removing her immunity bubble and allowing you to burn her down quickly.
Lei Shi - Heroic
Lei Shi only gains 1 new ability on Heroic difficulty called
Scary Fog, a stacking debuff that lasts 30-seconds and stacks up
to a maximum of 20 times. A swirl of fog will surround Lei Shi, debuffing
any players not within 10-yards of her hitbox with stacking
Scary Fog
debuffs. This debuff deals 7,000 Shadow damage every second per stack, and
increases the damage taken by nearby allies and enemies by 10% per
stack. The player debuffed by
Scary Fog will have a swirling circle
around them self (similar to Lei Shis), and anyone inside this circle
will take increased damage, depending on the number of
Scary Fog
debuff stacks.
Here the goal is to have 2 or 3 players assigned to standing outside of
the indicated range (the swirl around Lei Shi), gaining stacks of
Scary Fog. Once the assigned player has a high amount of stacks
(however many stacks your healers can handle, up to 20 max), they will move in
and stack near Lei Shi, making sure no allies are within their own small
circle of fog. This will cause Lei Shi to take increased damage, which
is desperately needed to meet the enrage timer on Heroic mode. Be sure to also
apply the
Scary Fog debuff to the Animated Protector
add that you are killing, as this will quickly speed up the process of killing it.
During Hide,
Scary Fog debuffs must be sure
they are spread out, as this debuff can easily kill other players that are inside
of the fog. Note that
Scary Fog does not increase the debuffed
players damage taken, only other nearby allies or enemies.
