Garalon Encounter Guide: Strategy, Abilities, Loot
Garalon is the fourth boss in the Heart of Fear. Known for his crushing size and deadly pheromones, Garalon serves as a powerful guardian within the Mantid stronghold, challenging players with mechanics focused on movement and coordination.
Role-Specific Tips for Garalon
DPS Tips
- Avoid moving underneath the boss to prevent additional
Crushs from occurring.
- Focus the same legs early on to slow Garalon down quickly.
Healer Tips
- Coordinate defensive cooldowns for each
Crush.
- Tanks will take a lot of damage during Phase 2, be prepared for big hits.
Tank Tips
- Both tanks need to be stacked in front of Garalon at all times for
Furious Swipe.
- Avoid moving underneath the boss to prevent additional
Crushs from occurring.
- Garalon hits very hard during Phase 2, always roll defensive cooldowns here.
Strategy for Garalon
Garalon is a 2 Phase fight, where players will need to kite him around
the room most of the encounter. Garalon can be attack on 2 parts of
his body: his legs and his torso. Each of Garalons 4 legs has its own
health bar and can be killed; when killed Garalon will gain a stack of
Broken Leg, dealing 3% of his max health and slowing his
movement speed by 15%, stacking up to 4 times. These Legs are surrounded
by a small, visible circle, which buffs players inside that circle with
Weak Points. This increases damage dealt to that particular Leg
by 100%, allowing you to quickly kill it off. Every 30-seconds Garalon
will use
Mend Leg to revive a previously killed Leg, which players
should promptly kill again.
Garalon will also use Crush every 35-seconds,
dealing fatal damage to any players underneath him, and 250,000 Physical damage
to all other players, stunning them for 2-seconds. He will also use
Crush
immediately whenever any player runs underneath him, specifically within his
visual red circle hitbox; give his very large body extra room and always stand at max range.
Garalon will also use
Furious Swipe every 10-seconds or
so, dealing high Physical damage in a frontal-cone. If at least 2 players are
not hit by
Furious Swipe, Garalon will gain a stack of
Fury, so be sure the tanks are stacked together in front of
Garalon to ensure they always are hit. The tanks must always be moving
ahead of Garalon as he will be moving towards them, being sure they
never go underneath him and trigger a
Crush.
The main challenge of the encounter comes from dealing with
Pheromones,
which Garalon will apply to the nearest player when he is engaged; He
will then fixate on the player with
Pheromones, chasing them
around the room. In addition to causing Garalon to fixate on the debuffed
player,
Pheromones will deal raid-wide damage every 2-seconds,
hitting all players in combat with the boss. Every 2-seconds it will also create
a Pheromone Pool at the players feet (
Pheromone Trail), damaging
anyone in the area. Lastly it will apply a stacking debuff on the player,
Pungency, which increases the damage that
Pheromones
deals by 10% per stack. Note that
Pungency increases the damage
that
Pheromones deals while on the targeted player, increasing
the entire raids damage taken, not just the targeted player.
Pungency will quickly stack up, causing
Pheromones
damage to quickly increase; to prevent it from overwhelming the raid, you can
"pass" the
Pheromones debuff to another player by touching them.
This will make the new player become fixated by Garalon, requiring them
to kite him, and cause the new player to have to drop the Pheromone Pools around
the outskirts of the room. The benefit of doing this is the new player will have
no stacks of
Pungency, reducing the raid-wide damage that
Pheromones deals. We recommend passing the
Pheromones
off around every 12-14 stacks of
Pungency, right around the time that
Crush will go off; this is to prevent deaths to the combined
Crush damage and stun, on top of the greatly buffed
Pheromones from a player with high stacks of
Pungency.
The
Pungency debuff lasts 6-minutes, requiring nearly everyone in
the raid to do the
Pheromones eventually as the fight goes on.
Start off by having a designated player to be the first
Pheromones target; Garalon will always place the first
debuff on the closest enemy when he enters combat. We recommend having a Ranged
DPS, such as a
Hunter using
Camouflage, to soak the first one
and begin kiting. The rest of the DPS should choose a leg, using all major DPS
cooldowns such as
Bloodlust, to burn down his legs as quickly as
possible; utilize the
Weak Points buffs by standing inside the
circles to quickly break his legs. This is extremely important at the start of
the fight to reduce Garalons speed with the
Broken Leg debuff, making it much easier to kite him. Your priority
should be to kill 2 legs very quickly on pull.
All players, especially tanks, should be mindful of their positioning and
Garalons hitbox, avoiding walking under him at all times as he moves
around the room. The Pheromone Trails will last for the rest of
the encounter, so do your best to drop them off on the very edges of the room.
DPS should always be mindful not to stand in front of Garalon, as
Furious Swipe hits very hard, killing most non-tanks. Kill the
Legs whenever Garalon uses
Mend Leg, and push him down to
33% to begin Phase 2.
Phase 2, technically Heroic only mode, plays out exactly the same as Phase 1;
the only difference is that Garalon does not chase the Pheromones
target, and must instead be tanked. Players will still need to deal with Legs,
Crush,
Furious Swipe, and
Pheromones;
this includes the
Pheromone Trail circles,
Pungency stacks,
and the constant raid-wide damage. Have your tank grab Garalon quickly
and constantly rotate a defensive buff, as He hits like an absolute truck. Burn
him down for the remaining 33% of his health, and you will be halfway
done with the Heart of Fear.
