1. Heroes Johanna Works Well With

In this section, we will look at Heroes that work particularly well with Johanna.

1.1. Abathur

Abathur Portrait Abathur can deal significant damage with Symbiote Icon Symbiote but there are three main problems when using Symbiote on most Heroes. First, the host target is usually too far from the enemies for Abathur to hit them. Second, the hosted target often dies too quickly and must flee the fight before Abathur can deal too much damage. Third, the hosted target cannot adequately stick to enemy Heroes. Johanna solves all three of these problems, allowing Abathur to use Symbiote on her for the entire duration of most fights. Abathur also has a number of other strengths, including gaining vision through Toxic Nest Icon Toxic Nest, soaking multiple lanes simultaneously for experience with Symbiote, cloning allies with Ultimate Evolution Icon Ultimate Evolution, and split-pushing with Evolve Monstrosity Icon Evolve Monstrosity, Locust Strain Icon Locust Strain, and Symbiote.

1.2. Azmodan

Azmodan Portrait Johanna is able to create a buffer between Azmodan and enemy Heroes, by playing aggressively and zoning enemy Heroes away. More importantly, Condemn Icon Condemn is the single best way for Azmodan to farm stacks for Taste for Blood Icon Taste for Blood. Condemn pulls enemies close together, Stunning and damaging them, which is perfect for Azmodan to land a Globe Of Annihilation Icon Globe Of Annihilation. Early in the game, you will also have to use Punish Icon Punish to get the minions low enough, especially the melee units. Ideally, you should roam from lane to lane with Azmodan, stacking Taste for Blood as much as possible, and waiting for the late game when Azmodan really shines. Unfortunately, this is not always possible and your other allies may require your assistance.

1.3. Kael'thas

Kael'thas Portrait Kael'thas has the highest late-game AoE damage output of any Hero. Johanna can use Condemn Icon Condemn and Blessed Shield Icon Blessed Shield to pull enemies and Stun them while Kael'thas uses Flamestrike Icon Flamestrike and Phoenix Icon Phoenix to deal damage. Johanna also creates a very solid frontline buffer zone for Kael'thas, allowing him to poke more easily.

2. Heroes Johanna Is Countered By

Johanna is one of the few Heroes in the game that has no natural counters. She cannot be bursted quickly by Assassins, or crowd controlled by Supports or Tanks, due to Iron Skin Icon Iron Skin. However, this does not mean she is overpowered or always a good pick to have on your team. Johanna is instead countered by playstyle, such as ignoring her in team fights or targeting her while Iron Skin is on cooldown. Johanna also lacks good mobility and has no gap-closers, meaning that she can be kited very effectively and has difficulty keeping up with dive-heavy allies.
