Midnight Pre-Season BiS List for Arcane Mage
This list provides you with a list of items you can obtain before Season 1 of Midnight launches that will allow you to go into the Season as strong as possible.
Before Season 1 starts, you can acquire gear from Midnight Dungeons, Delves, Crafting, or other Open World content. This list is primarily focused on gear from Dungeons, as these are most farmable and do not require pure luck of finding the right world item or Delve item.
Keep in mind that items can be upgraded after obtaining them. For more information on this, check out the Gear Upgrade System system.
Note that there is no such thing as a singular, all-encompassing "BiS". The best items vary per character and situation, and many items are essentially equivalent in terms of DPS, namely when we are just shuffling secondary stats around. I might list a few "BiS" items per slot for this reason, but ultimately, BiS lists are not very practically useful and you should be simming your character to find out what gear to equip next, as some items might be bigger upgrades for you than an item listed as best-in-slot on this list, due to the rest of your items being different.

Best Crafted Items for Arcane Mage
Disclaimer: What to craft is highly dependent on your own personal goals, what content you are doing, and what items you have looted so far. We strongly suggest you run your own simulations on raidbots by using droptimizer to figure out your personal best crafting options.
During the Pre-Season, you can craft and equip as many items as you want at 204 item level. This is very useful if you are missing a higher item level piece for some slots. When Season 1 begins, you can upgrade these items into stronger variants, using Crests and Sparks.
For an overview on crafting and upgrading crafted items, check out our Profession overview.
Best Embellishments for Arcane Mage
You can equip as many crafted items as you want, but you can only equip two items with an Embellishment on them. These can be two of the same Embellishment (doubling their damage or stat amounts, but not their proc rates), or two different ones, gaining both effects.
Disclaimer: Not all Embellishments are fully implemented yet in sims, and theorycrafting on them is still on-going. Expect this section to change multiple times during pre-season and early season 1!
Prismatic Focusing Iris +
Stabilizing Gemstone Bandolier
are your best Embellishments.
Pre-Season Crafting Order for Arcane Mage
Prismatic Focusing Iris on one of the following items:
Masterwork Sin'dorei Band: after the pre-season ends, ring
will be the ideal slot. However, due to the set rings from
Nexus-Point Xenas being very strong during pre-season,
it is not the best option in pre-season itself. I generally
recommend just crafting it on ring to avoid having to re-craft
later.- If you do not mind recrafting, craft it on
Thalassian Phoenix Torque. You will have to re-craft
it during Season 1 onto another slot.
Stabilizing Gemstone Bandolier on
Adherent's Silken Shroud.
Alternatively, you can craft on your weakest item, but then you will
have to recraft it during Season 1.
- Craft
Darkmoon Deck: Hunt. - Craft any pieces which are an item level upgrade for any slot which you are currently lacking.
Evaluating Upgrades
The easiest way, and also the method we suggest, to compare multiple items is to use Raidbots' Top Gear. Here, you can input an export from the Simcraft AddOn, select the items to compare, and it will find out which of the items are best. See below for a guide on how to sim yourself.
