General Information

Macros and addons are an integral part of a raider's arsenal as they can make it easier to perform a variety of tasks, improving your overall game experience. On this page, we present macros and addons that can be useful to a Discipline Priest in World of Warcraft Legion 7.0.3.

The other pages of our Discipline Priest guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Zolvolt, officer and long-time healing Priest of Exiled Legion, whom you can follow on Twitter, and Beerek, one of the best healing Priests in the world, who raids in Serenity.

1. Macros

1.1. Generic Macros for Priests

1.1.1. Leap of Faith Mouseover Macro

  • /cast [@mouseover,help,nodead][] Leap of Faith

This macro will cast Leap of Faith Icon Leap of Faith on the target your are currently mousing over, if it is a friendly target and not dead. Otherwise, it will cast Leap of Faith on your current target.

1.2. Specific Macros for Discipline Priests

We do highly suggest that all of your heals, as well as other spells that can be cast on raid members (such as Levitate Icon Levitate, for preventing fall damage) be incorporated into mouseover macros. This will allow you to much more easily cast them on raid members.

Here is an example of a mouseover macro. Simply replace Plea Icon Plea with the name of the spell you want to use:

  • #showtooltip Plea
  • /cast [target=mouseover,help,nodead][]Plea

This will cast Plea on your mouseover target, if it is a friendly target and it is not dead. Otherwise, it will cast heal on your current target.

1.2.1. Penance Mouseover Macro for The Penitent

  • #showtooltip
  • /cast [@mouseover,exists,help,talent:1/1] [talent:1/1] Penance; [talent:1/2] Penance; [talent:1/3] Penance

This macro allows for Penance Icon Penance to have mouseover functionality when using The Penitent Icon The Penitent, without affecting Castigation Icon Castigation or Schism Icon Schism Penance. This is helpful to avoid casting errors.

1.2.2. Shadow Word: Pain Macro

  • #showtooltip Shadow Word: Pain
  • /cast [harm,nodead][@targettarget,harm,nodead][@targettargettarget,harm,nodead][@targettargettargettarget,harm,nodead][@targettargettargettargettarget,harm,nodead]Shadow Word: Pain

This macro will search for a target to apply Shadow Word: Pain Icon Shadow Word: Pain to using the target of target system. It will keep searching for several layers of target of target until it finds something to hit. This can be a helpful macro for players with trouble targeting enemy units. You can also replace Shadow Word: Pain with any other spell.

2. Addons

2.1. Generic Addons for Priests

2.1.1. ElvUI

Here, at Icy Veins, we use ElvUI for all our characters. This addon is a complete replacement of the default User Interface. It comes with almost everything you need to perform properly: action bars, cooldown timers, proc display, etc.

We strongly recommend that you get this addon and our forum moderator Pandacho has written a quick configuration guide for it.

2.1.2. Boss Mods: Deadly Boss Mods or Bigwigs

Boss mods are addons that warn you about boss abilities and give you live advice on how to handle some mechanics. We strongly recommend you to get one such addon. At Icy Veins, we mostly use Deadly Boss Mods, the most popular boss mod. A good alternative is Big Wigs.

2.1.3. GTFO

GTFO is a lightweight addon that notifies you when you are standing in harmful effects or when you are making other such mistakes. It is very useful, even if your boss mod is already alerting you of such things.

2.1.4. Parrot or Mik's Scrolling Battle Text

Parrot and Mik's Scrolling Battle Text are highly customisable addons for displaying floating battle text while in combat (incoming heals, damage of your spells, etc.). They both work very well by default.

2.1.5. Weak Auras

WeakAuras is an extremely useful addon that allows you to have visual effects on your screen, helping you track your buffs, debuffs and cooldowns. It is highly customisable and it can make it much, much easier to keep track of your procs and play your spec more proficiently. It can also be used for a variety of other functions.

2.1.6. Recount / Skada

Recount is a well known addon that most people use for displaying current DPS or HPS (Healing Per Second). We advise you to also use it for checking what you take damage from and if the share of damage/healing you do with each of your abilities is similar to that of other players of your class.

A lightweight alternative to Recount is Skada Damage Meter.

2.2. Specific Addons for Discipline Priests

2.2.1. Enemy Grid

Enemy Grid allows you to see unit frames for all enemies, which can help Discipline players target enemies in order to damage them.
