BiS Gear for Fire Mage
The War Within Season 2 Overall BiS List for
Sunfury Fire Mage
This list contains the Best in Slot Gear for Fire Mage in The War Within Season 2 from all sources, including Raiding, Mythic+, Delves, The Great Vault, and Crafted.
Note that there is no such thing as a singular, all-encompassing "BiS". The best items vary per character and situation, and many items are essentially equivalent in terms of DPS, namely when we are just shuffling secondary stats around. I will list one "BiS" item per slot, but ultimately, BiS lists are not very practically useful and you should be simming your character to find out what gear to equip next. Nonetheless, there is a huge demand for this list, and thus, you can use the list below as a guideline as to what an endgame set of gear looks like.

The War Within Season 2 Raid BiS List for Fire Mage
This list contains the Best in Slot Gear for Fire Mage in The War Within Season 2 from the Liberation of Undermine Raid.
Note that this BiS List is for items from Liberation of Undermine. I am separating the BiS lists by gear sources. This is what you send to your Raid Leader/Loot Council when they ask you what your BiS gear is from the Raid.

The War Within Season 2 Mythic+ BiS List for Fire Mage
This list contains the Best in Slot Gear for Fire Mage from The War Within Season 2 Mythic+.
Note that this BiS List is for items from Mythic+. I am separating the BiS lists by gear sources. This is the list you can chase when you want to improve your gear by farming Mythic+ dungeons.
Note that tier pieces are still included. Although technically not farmable in Mythic+, they do appear in the Mythic+ Great Vault (639) options and can be upgraded from Mythic+ pieces with Matrix Catalyst. Due to how important they are to building your character, and still obtainable if you only do Mythic+, I included them here.

Durable Information Securing Container for Fire Mage
Durable Information Securing Container is a belt introduced in patch 11.1.7 from Overcharged Delves.
You will first obtain this from a short questline, after which it can be upgraded
via a weekly quest, up to 701 item level.
For more information on how to acquire or upgrade the belt, make sure to check out our dedicated Overcharged Delves guide!
You can easily swap the bonus of the item by simply right-clicking it, depending on the content you are doing. Below we show the recommended bonuses to use:
- For Raiding/Single-Target, use
Charged Bolts.
- For Mythic+ or AoE, which is best depends on your Hero Talents
and how much priority damage vs AoE you want to do:
- For more priority damage for both
Frostfire and
Sunfury:
Charged Bolts
- For maximum AoE damage as
Frostfire:
Spark Burst
- For maximum AoE damage as
Sunfury:
Electric Current
- Note: what is best can shift around on your talents and gear, so for the best results, sim your own character.
- For more priority damage for both
Best Trinkets for Fire Mage in The War Within Season 2
Disclaimer :Just like any other gear, your best trinkets heavily depend on the gear you already have, and which level of content you are doing. We strongly recommend you simulate your own character to ensure you equip what is best for yourself, instead of the general recommendations below.
There are various trinkets that are good for Fire in The War Within Season 2. Below we list the most important options:
Mug's Moxie Jug — Incredibly strong passive trinket that is simply equip and forget.
Eye of Kezan — A very strong trinket, however, it loses value if you cannot stay in combat for prolonged periods of time, so only recommended for raid bosses or Mythic+ if you are chain pulling.
House of Cards — Our best on-use trinket. It is slightly worse than the other options listed above on pure single-target long fights, but it is better than
Eye of Kezan on cleave or shorter fights.
Additionally, if you are unable to obtain those best trinkets above, or want more flexibility, there are various other options:
Synergistic Brewterializer — Slightly worse than
Eye of Kezan on long fights, but still very strong in all situations.
Mastery: Ignite will passively kill the barrels for you, so you do not need to target them.
Carved Blazikon Wax — A great passive trinket that is simply equip and forget which works great in all situations. Slightly worse than
Eye of Kezan on long fights, but a good alternative if you just want one trinket for all situations.
Entropic Skardyn Core — A great passive trinket, that requires you to pick up the orbs to get the most out of it. Slightly worse than
Eye of Kezan on long fights. Only good if you can actually properly pick up all orbs, which can sometimes be quite difficult to do in combination with mechanics. However, due to Fire's incredible ability to move and DPS at the same time, this is usually pretty manageable.
Best Cyrce's Circlet Gems for Fire Mage
Cyrce's Circlet is a ring introduced in Patch 11.0.7. This
ring is obtained by doing content is the zone of patch 11.0.7, Siren Isle.
It has 3 sockets that can be filled by a special type of gem, also obtained from
Sirens Isle content. Each socket has its own type, and there are 4 gems for each
type, for a total of 12 gems. However, most slots only provide limited DPS
related options, providing limited flexibility.
If you have a maxed out ring, it stays relatively strong until you can get heroic item level rings from Liberation of Undermine, or similar level from Mythic+. However, it highly depends on the rings available to you, so I suggest simming your own items. Generally, using Season 2 rings will be better. If you do not have the ring maxed out, it is not worth spending time to max out the ring, as the ring will be replaced with Season 2 rings.
These are generally considered to be the best gems, but it is highly recommended to sim yourself to figure out the best choices and combinations for your specific gear and the specific gems and other rings you already own:
- For raid, you will want to play
Thunderlord's Crackling Citrine,
Fathomdweller's Runed Citrine and
Legendary Skipper's Citrine
- For Mythic+/AoE, you will want to play
Stormbringer's Runed Citrine,
Fathomdweller's Runed Citrine and
Squall Sailor's Citrine
Best Crafted Items for Fire Mage
Disclaimer: What to craft is highly dependent on your own personal goals, what content you are doing, and what items you have looted so far. We strongly suggest you run your own simulations on raidbots by using droptimizer to figure out your personal best crafting options.
For Sunfury which we generally recommend, the best crafted
Embellishments are
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension +
Writhing Armor Banding.
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension can only go on
a weapon or off-hand, and due to crafted items being slightly lower item
level, we want to avoid crafting a weapon. Due to this, off-hand with Haste +
Versatility is our best option for the Darkmoon Embellishment.
Writhing Armor Banding can go on any armor piece, so there is a lot more freedom.
However, due to the lower item level of crafted pieces, we want to craft this on an item slot with
lower stats, like Bracers or Cloak. For the best-in-slot setup we craft it on
Consecrated Cloak, again with Haste + Versatility.
However, for Frostfire the best crafted Embellishments are
Elemental Focusing Lens +
Duskthread Lining. Note that the Frostfire
crafted setup is very specific to the best-in-slot setup, so check out the Frostfire
best-in-slot list to see exactly what to craft for Frostfire.
However, based on your current gear, the best option for you might be different. Haste + Versatility is also not hard-locked in. As long as you put haste on an item, the other stat can be anything, usually your lowest other stat, but the best way to know what to craft is to sim your own character.
Keep in mind you can craft lower item level items that do not cost a Spark,
and apply an embellishment to those. For example, you can craft a Cloak or Belt
with Writhing Armor Banding without needing a Spark, so you can craft this
to get the benefit of the Embellishment without having to wait for an additional spark.
Best Crafting Order for Fire Mage
- One of the following 3:
Vagabond's Bounding Baton (double-check you pick the Intellect staff!) with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension and Haste + Versatility is a very solid starter option. Although not technically best-in-slot, it requires fewer Crests than a 1-hand + off-hand, so you save on crests and can upgrade other slots instead early on.
- An Intellect main-hand weapon (
Scepter of Radiant Magics for example) with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension and Haste + Versatility is another very good first option. Although also technically not best-in-slot, you will use a 675 weapon for a long time, and it grants an immense amount of immediate power. Craft with Haste + Versatility. Crafting this is preferable over a Staff if you can get a 675+ off-hand quickly.
Vagabond's Torch with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension is best-in-slot over crafting a weapon, but it provides significantly less DPS than crafting a weapon unless you loot a strong 1-handed weapon early on. If you do loot or expect to loot a 675+ weapon early on, you should craft Vagabond's Torch first. Craft with Haste + Mastery or Versatility.
- After either a weapon or off-hand with
Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension, craft
Consecrated Cloak with
Writhing Armor Banding, with Haste + Versatility. Cloak is best in slot, but you can craft any other non tier slot which would be a large item level upgrade, if you need more immediate power.
- For
Frostfire, craft
Amulet of Earthen Craftsmanship with
Elemental Focusing Lens +
Consecrated Cloak with
Duskthread Lining. Both with Haste + Versatility.
- Next, chase Item Level where needed. None of the crafted options aside from your first 2 will be best-in-slot, so just go for whichever slot gives you the biggest item level bump.
- If you crafted an intellect weapon, after looting a 675+ weapon, drop the crafted weapon and switch to the Embellished off-hand option instead.
- At this point, you are mostly done crafting. You can spend future Sparks on off-spec items, alternatively statted crafts for different situations, and so on.
The War Within Season 2 Tier Set for Fire Mage
The Tier Set is comprised of 5 items of the Violet Rebirth set. Wearing 2 and 4 pieces from the set gives you DPS bonuses:
-
Mage Fire 11.1 Class Set 2pc — Your spells and abilities have a chance to hit a Jackpot! reducing the cooldown of
Combustion by 2 sec. Casting Combustion always hits a Jackpot! at 200% increased effectiveness.
-
Mage Fire 11.1 Class Set 4pc — When you hit a Jackpot! your damage is increased by 15% for 7 sec. If you would gain Jackpot! from Combustion the duration is increased by 100%.
The Tier Set Bonus is absolutely mandatory for competitive play, and you should prioritize obtaining it. You can use the Matrix Catalyst to convert regular items (from Mythic+, for example) into Tier Items.
You only need 4 pieces out of 5 to get both set bonuses. We recommend you get all items except for the Gloves due to it lacking haste. Check out the BiS List for more information.
The 2-set provides you with a significant amount of cooldown reduction
on Combustion, which is very strong. Combined with other effects like
Kindling and
Unleashed Inferno, you can cast Combustion
very often.
The 4-set bonus is a great damage buff, and is guaranteed to proc during Combustion.
This combined with how often you have Combustion uptime, makes it a very strong
set bonus.
Although your decision making during the rotation is not impacted by the
new tier set, your rotation does feel a lot faster because of significantly higher
Combustion uptime. To see the full rotation including the tier set,
check out the rotation page.
Best Use Of Puzzling Cartel Chips For Fire Mage
You can get guaranteed items from Liberation of Undermine through the Puzzling Cartel Chips currency. Note that you can only get three items in total from them, and you can only obtain items from bosses you have already killed at least once. For a full explanation of how it works, check out our Puzzling Cartel Chip section.
Disclaimer: The best items to buy heavily depend on the gear you already have, and the gear available to buy based on the content you have completed. We strongly recommend you sim your own vendor options using Raidbots top gear, to ensure you pick the best option from your available items.
Below we list some of the best items to get generally speaking from Puzzling Cartel Chips:
Mug's Moxie Jug (if you have done Mythic Mug'Zee) - One of our best trinkets, and universally good, especially if you can buy it at mythic track.
Eye of Kezan (if you have done Mythic Gallywix) - Another great trinket, but more situational. Only really worth using for long raid bosses or if you are chain pulling in Mythic+, and only worth if you can buy it at mythic track which is incredibly hard to achieve as it requires Mythic Gallywix.
House of Cards (if you have done Mythic One-Armed Bandit) - A great trinket, although slightly worse than
Eye of Kezan on long fights, but better on shorter fights and AoE, making it a better trinket if you just want to equip one trinket for all situations.
Entropic Skardyn Core /
Carved Blazikon Wax (if you have timed all +12s) - Both trinkets are better than the above trinkets if you are able to buy them at a higher track than the raid trinkets, which is generally easier. Both are also better than
Eye of Kezan if you are dropping stacks often. For example, if you primarily do short raid bosses, or are not chain pulling in Mythic+.
Mug's Moxie Jug /
Eye of Kezan /
House of Cards (Heroic) - These are still good options to obtain at Heroic track, but worse than the Mythic+ trinkets above if you can buy those on Mythic track.
The Jastor Diamond - One of our best-in-slot rings only obtainable from the raid with no alternatives from the Vault or Mythic+. It is also a very rare drop, making it hard to obtain normally.
Evaluating Upgrades
The easiest way, and also the method we suggest, to compare multiple items is to use Raidbots' Top Gear. Here, you can input an export from the Simcraft AddOn, select the items to compare, and it will find out which of the items are best. See below for a guide on how to sim yourself.
