Gunbreaker Tank Gear and Best in Slot — Dawntrail 7.5
On this page, you will find the best gear and best-in-slot items for your Gunbreaker Tank in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.5).
Gunbreaker Gearsets (BiS)
This page will cover the endgame gearing options offered to a Gunbreaker. As a tank, Gunbreakers use the Fending set along with every other tank, so sets that share melds with other tanks will be highlighted if you wish to play multiple and not have to remeld for each one.
Gunbreaker can play at many GCD tiers, and the only way to know if a GCD tier is comfortable for the player is through fight experimentation. Below, we have outlined multiple BiS sets with varying GCD tiers, as well as recommendations from skilled Gunbreaker players on the scenarios they are used in.
If you are currently gearing up, you can find information to help make those choices in our guide's melding section, linked below.
Best in Slot by Encounter
Crafted Pentemelded 2.40 Prog Set
This set uses the crafted gear available in 7.4, utilizing Advanced Melding to maximize the amount of stats we can have to take into Savage prog. Please note, that since Savage release is delayed three weeks after 7.4 released, this set includes four weeks worth of Bygone Brass gear since you will have the three weeks before Savage, as well as the day of its release, worth of tomes. It also uses the 7.4 Extreme Trial weapon, which is a stronger option than the pentamelded crafted weapon.
For those that want a set that does not use four weeks of tomes, a second set without any tome gear is provided. It still uses the Extreme weapon, however, as that is still stronger than the pentamelded crafted weapon. If you wish to use the crafted weapon because you do not have access to the Extreme weapon, then meld 2 Crit +54s, 1 Direct Hit +54, 1 Crit +18, and 1 Direct Hit +18. If you do not wish to pentameld, you may simply stop melding after the guaranteed meld slots.
This set is generally recommended for those with average to high ping, or those that want a faster GCD, and requires late weaving
No Mercy every time it is up to
hit 9 GCDs within its buff.
Crafted Pentamelded 2.45 Prog Set
This set uses the crafted gear available in 7.4, utilizing Advanced Melding to maximize the amount of stats we can have to take into Savage prog. This set uses several skill speed melds to reach 2.45 GCD, for those who want a slower GCD.
This set has the caveat that if you do not have very low ping (around 25-30ms or less), you are likely to clip your GCD and drift
No Mercy farther and farther from
party buffs each use. This speed requires pressing
No Mercy exactly on cooldown every time it is up to maintain alignment with party buffs.
This will result in
No Mercy being early weaved for the odd minutes and late weaved for the even minutes, ensuring 9 GCDs in
No Mercy
during the even minutes, but only 8 GCDs in
No Mercy during the odd minutes.
Crafted Pentamelded 2.5 Prog Set

It also uses the 7.4 Extreme Trial weapon, which is a stronger option than the pentamelded crafted weapon.

If you do not wish to pentameld, you may simply stop melding after the guaranteed meld slots.
This set provides a 2.50 GCD speed.

No Mercy every time it is up to
hit 9 GCDs within its buff.
