Gunbreaker Tank Gear and Best in Slot — Dawntrail 7.00

On this page, you will find the best gear and best-in-slot items for your Gunbreaker Tank in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail (Patch 7.00).

1.

Gunbreaker Gearsets (BiS)

This page will cover the endgame gearing options offered to a Gunbreaker. As a tank, Gunbreakers use the Fending set along with every other tank, so sets that share melds with other tanks will be highlighted if you wish to play multiple and not have to remeld for each one.

Gunbreaker can play at many GCD tiers, and the only way to know if a GCD tier is comfortable for the player is through fight experimentation. Below, we have outlined multiple BiS sets with varying GCD tiers, as well as recommendations from skilled Gunbreaker players on the scenarios they are used in.

If you are currently gearing up, you can find information to help make those choices in our guide's melding section, linked below.

2.1.

Pre-Savage 2.40

This set uses a combination of the tomestone gear and the 7.0 extreme trials gear as both are the highest item level pieces available. This set uses skill speed food and several skill speed melds to reach a comfortable 2.40 GCD. This set is generally recommended for those with average to high ping, or those that want a faster GCD, and requires late weaving No Mercy Icon No Mercy every time it is up to hit 9 GCDs within its buff.

2.2.

Pre-Savage 2.45

This set uses a combination of the tomestone gear and the 7.0 extreme trials gear as both are the highest item level pieces available. This set does not use skill speed food, but still uses several skill speed melds to reach a comfortable 2.45 GCD. This set has the caveat that if you do not have very low ping (around 25-30ms or less), you are likely to clip your GCD and drift No Mercy Icon No Mercy farther and farther from party buffs each use. This speed requires pressing No Mercy Icon No Mercy exactly on cooldown every time it is up to maintain alignment with party buffs. This will result in No Mercy Icon No Mercy being early weaved for the odd minutes and late weaved for the even minutes, ensuring 9 GCDs in No Mercy Icon No Mercy during the even minutes, but only 8 GCDs in No Mercy Icon No Mercy during the odd minutes. If you cannot play on 2.45 due to ping, but still want to play a slower GCD set, you can replace a single Skill Speed meld with Direct Hit to play at 2.46. 2.46 plays similarly but is slightly more forgiving on the timing of No Mercy Icon No Mercy being affected by ping.

2.3.

The Omega Protocol BiS — 2.5 GCD

With the new Manderville Relic Weapon released in Patch 6.45 with customizable stats, the BiS for both TOP and DSR have been changed. Gunbreakers elect to use either a 2.5 GCD or 2.45 GCD, with one gear piece and the relic changing what the total skill speed stat is. Try both, and use the one you feel more comfortable with while progging or reclearing the fights.

Portions of this gear set can only be acquired by completing the previous raid tiers. A guide for the content can be found links below.

2.4.

The Omega Protocol BiS — 2.45 GCD

With the new Manderville Relic Weapon released in Patch 6.45 with customizable stats, the BiS for both TOP and DSR have been changed. Gunbreakers elect to use either a 2.5 GCD or 2.45 GCD, with one gear piece and the relic changing what the total skill speed stat is. Try both, and use the one you feel more comfortable with while progging or reclearing the fights.

Portions of this gear set can only be acquired by completing the previous raid tiers. A guide for the content can be found links below.

2.5.

Dragonsong's Reprise BiS — 2.4 GCD

With the new Manderville Relic Weapon released in Patch 6.45 with customizable stats, the BiS for both TOP and DSR have been changed. Gunbreakers elect to use either a 2.4 GCD or 2.45 GCD, with one gear piece and the relic changing what the total skill speed stat is. Try both, and use the one you feel more comfortable with while progging or reclearing the fights.

2.6.

Dragonsong's Reprise BiS — 2.45 GCD

With the new Manderville Relic Weapon released in Patch 6.45 with customizable stats, the BiS for both TOP and DSR have been changed.
