Icy Veins Christmas Competition!

5 posts in this topic

Our yearly festive competition has begun!

14977-icy-veins-christmas-competition.jp

Blizzard has sent Greatfather Winter to deliver some presents to the Icy Veins team! We're giving you the chance to win some of our fantastic goodies in our Christmas competition!

How To Enter

So just how can you win one of these fantastic Christmas goodies? We're going to be hosting an Icy Veins exclusive treasure hunt! We are going to be choosing an entity within the Warcraft universe, such as an NPC, item, dungeon, or boss, with a new one being chosen every day for 5 days. With such a large library to choose from, the possibilities are endless! You will then need to figure out what we have chosen on each day and post your answer in the appropriate thread.

In order to help you figure out which ones we have chosen, we are going to be posting clues on our news page and Twitter, starting from 26th December, 2015. Use our clues to decipher the problem and conjure up the right answer! It's important to note that these clues are not to be taken at face value. They are going to need some Sherlock Holmes style investigation to understand the meaning we're trying to convey.

You will only be allowed one guess per day and any posts you make afterwards are void in regards to entry. It's important to make sure you don't just waste your guess on the first clue. Take your time to think it through!

We will use the following format for the different competitions each day:

25-26th December: A mount. (Locked, answer found here.)

26-27th December: A dungeon. (Locked, answer found here.)

27-28th December: A raid. (Locked, answer found here.)

28-29th December: An item. (Locked, answer found here.)

29-30th December: An NPC. (Locked, answer found here.)

We will post the first clue of the day at 18:00, the second at 22:00, the third at 03:00 and the last clue at 13:00. All of these times are on the CET time zone. We have tried to make sure both EU and US entrants will receive a fair amount of time depending on their time zones and the number of clues during the day for them.

For other time zones, the times are as follows:

18:00 (CET) - 17:00 (GMT) - 10:00 (PDT) - 13:00 (EDT)

22:00 (CET) - 21:00 (GMT) - 14:00 (PDT) - 17:00 (EDT)

03:00 (CET) - 02:00 (GMT) - 19:00 (PDT) - 22:00 (EDT)

13:00 (CET) - 12:00 (GMT) - 05:00 (PDT) - 08:00 (EDT)

We will be posting the clues in a specific order each day. The first clue will always be in the "competition post of the day", found on the main news page. The next 3 clues will be found on our Twitter account. Make sure you keep up-to-date with our feed so you don't miss the clue! We will also put links to the tweets into the main competition post.

Threads will be opened at 18:00 on their chosen day and kept open for 24 hours. As soon as we reach 18:00 of the following day, the thread will be locked and a new one will be created for the next day's competition. You must submit any answers for that day BEFORE the thread is closed.

All of the selected entities will be found somewhere in the current live patch of Warlords of Draenor - we will not use any lore figures or weapons that are not physically obtainable in the World of Warcraft game at this time.

Prizes are going to be awarded based on a points system. Depending on the speed of your entry, as well as whether or not it is correct, you will be granted a certain number of points. At the end of the event, we will be tallying up all the points and distribution prizes depending on the rankings. Take a look at what you could be winning!

Points System Explained

We will be judging the competition and allocating prizes based on the number of points that each individual has. The points will be awarded daily depending on the speed of your correct answers. We will then tally up the points and announce the winner at the end of the event.

The points will be distributed like this:

First Place: 100 points

Second Place: 80 points

Third Place: 65 points

Fourth Place: 50 points

Fifth Place: 35 points

Sixth Place: 30 points

Seventh Place: 25 points

Eighth Place: 20 points

Ninth Place: 15 points

Tenth Place: 10 points

In the event of a tie, there are two methods used to decide the winner. Firstly, we will compare the number of correct answers between the entrants. We don't want someone to get a lucky guess on the answer and then win just because they got a quick time. If we have someone get 30 points from a sixth place answer, and another person that has 3 tenth place answers, the second individual would win. We think it's more fair to allow those that participate more to win, instead of a lucky guess.

If there is a tie on the number of correct answers, we will compare the fastest answers of those that are tied. The fastest single answer on a post out of the collection will win.

Rules of the Competition

  1. You cannot dispute the decisions made by our staff - the winners will be chosen by the time stamp on their forum post, as well as whether or not they have the correct answer.
  2. You must comment on the thread for that day with your answer. You cannot submit elsewhere.
  3. All answers that you submit will remain hidden until we can see that 10 people have got the answer. This will not affect the time of entry in any way, the forum will keep track of that for us.
  4. Any edited posts are immediately disqualified.
  5. We will forgive small typos, but your answer must be indisputably correct. You cannot submit "the place in the sky in Uldum" as an answer for Vortex Pinnacle, for example, hoping to catch Throne of the Four Winds as well.
  6. Winners will not be announced until the competition is over.
  7. The competition will run from 26th December, 2015 to 30th December, 2015, with a new post every day.
  8. You may only enter ONCE per day. Any further submissions will be ignored.
  9. We will only distribute one prize per mailing address, in order to avoid double entries from different accounts.
  10. Our forum moderators are welcome to enter the competition as well, since they do not know the answers to our clues!

Could you be the next writer to join the team?
We are currently looking for a new writer to join our team and fill the role of an Overwatch guide writer. Check out the requirements and how to apply here!
      Hello everyone!
We are delighted to announce that we are looking for some fresh blood to enter our growing team behind the scenes of Icy Veins. We are looking to revamp and update our Overwatch section with the aid of a well-experienced flex player. Your role as a guide writer will be to use your extensive knowledge of in-game mechanics and the current competitive meta to efficiently detail strategies on how to play each hero.
This will be a paid position. The nature of payment will evolve as the section of the site does, with remuneration starting in the form of shared revenues based on revenues from the guides you will be writing.
In order to be considered for the position, you will need to meet the following requirements:
You should have a strong grasp of the current meta in Overwatch at all levels of play, ranging from Bronze to Grand Master. You will be writing to help players of all skill levels, so it is important to understand what is needed of a player at different skill rating brackets. You should be confident in your ability to perform in every role in Overwatch, capable of playing any hero at your current skill rating bracket. Ideally, you should be currently ranked in Grand Master, with similar final skill ratings in previous seasons. You should have a strong mastery of written English, since you will be writing guides in English. You should be confident in your passion for Overwatch, since we will expect you to stay up-to-date on any meta shifts and changes by playing regularly. To apply for the position, simply send us an e-mail at jobs@icy-veins.com. The deadline for applications is the 4th December, 2017, at 23:59 CET, which is 3 weeks from the time of publication. After the deadline, we will start to respond to candidates and organise interviews for the best applicants. You will not hear back from us before the deadline.
Good luck everyone and we look forward to reading your applications!
