hunter rotation, possible to do too many Aimed?

Recommended Posts

Hello!
i struggle with Markedshot procs:( in general, so i know something is wrong with my rotation(cant be that unlucky)

at start of a fight iam allways top 3...but then i fall like a rock in water:(
so iam wondering if you can actually do too many aimedshot, wich will prevent you from getting proccs more often?
i actually get 3 AiS into a 5sec vuln...

compared to other hunters in my guild iam up to par when it comes to AiS but on barrage and marked iam way behind:(
i know i gotta be better at Barrage use, but the markedshot proccs really bug me:( I just cant seem to get em

any suggestions?

Yes, you can cast too many AiS.  The guide says that you sometimes have to lay off AiS (especially if Vulnerable is not up) so you can do some focus building.  Reread the guide.  You seem to have the opener right, but you have to be working in WB, MS and Barrage.  And that requires that you pay attention to your cool downs and focus.  (Vulnerable, SW, WB, Barrage, MS)  You don't want to let a MarkedShot miss the vulnerable buff, given its damage and refresh of Vulnerable.

Just spamming AiS means that you'll be missing out on all that other DPS.  Since AutoShot can proc vulnerable, casting AiS without it is not recommended unless you're focus capped/capping.

Yes, MarkedShot procs are RNG, and I know that in fights when I was raiding with my old guild, the lack of MarkedShot procs (compared to the other hunters) hurt my DPS.  I didn't get the free refresh of vulnerable, nor the MS damage, especially in AOE fights.

Basically, if you're constantly casting AiS (50 focus), then you're going to be focus starved and won't be able to cast a WindBurst (20 focus) , Barrage (60 focus) or a Marked Shot (30 focus) when they're off CD (WB, BR) or expiring (MS).

Perfected, ideal rotaton looks like this:

1. Cast as many Windburst / Barrage / other high priority abilities as possible during encounter.

2. Cast as many Marked Shots into Vulnerable debuff as possible. Incidentally, this number should be equal to the amount of "Marking Targets" procs you get, in addition to a maximum number of Sidewinders you can cast during Trueshot.

3. Assuming you accomplish the first two, your next priority is to cast as many Aimed Shots into Vulnerable as possible.

4. Assuming you accomplish the first three, you can dump excess focus into Aimed Shots without Vulnerable. This is very low priority, and has a high chance of messing up the rest of your rotation. I wouldn't bother with it unless you're already capping on focus.

Finally, obviously you want to accomplish all of that while taking as little avoidable damage as possible, and following fight mechanics always takes priority over dealing damage.

Aren't 2 and 3 really kind of dependent?

If I get a Marked Shot Proc, I try to get in as many AiS in before hitting Marked Shot while Vulnerable is still up and is expiring,  and having enough focus to use Marked Shot.  This might just be 1 AiS because of movement or focus constraints, or as many as 4-5 (Hero/TimeWarp, TrueShot, LockNLoad).

Using a MarkedShot proc after SW before any  AiS wastes the vulnerable buff refresh it offers.

They don't interfere with each other. You casting or not casting AiS has no effect on the amount of Marked Shots available to you.

Nobody said anything about always casting Marked Shot before casting any AiS.

Your priority is to cast as many as possible, not as soon as possible.

Enter Eclipse Apply or maintain your Moonfire, Sunfire, and Stellar Flare (if talented) Keep Celestial Alignment / Incarnation: Chosen of Elune (if talented) on cooldown Cast Convoke the Spirits when you have less than 50 Astral Power. Try to pair with your other cooldowns but do not lose a use. Spend your Astral Power on Starsurge or Starfall on multi-target. Do not lose uses of Warrior of Elune, Force of Nature, or Fury of Elune (if talented). Cast the Eclipse-appropriate filler. Item 3 says to cast Celestial Alignment as a higher priority than (presumably that means before you cast) Convoke the Spirits.
The subsection on Convoke the Spirits Optimization says "Generally, you will play around your Convoke and not your Celestial Alignment, as you almost never want to cast Celestial Alignment without Convoke up as well."
I'm not quite understanding how I'm supposed to prioritize Celestial Alignment in my rotation but not generally cast Celestial Alignment without Convoke up.
Unless Convoke is a special sort of channel, if you actually managed to cast Celestial Alignment during Convoke, wouldn't it interrupt the channeling of Convoke?
If I am supposed to cast Convoke and then cast Celestial Alignment as it's channeling, shouldn't the rotation guide have those reversed?
I'm sorry to be a noodge about accuracy here, but either I'm badly misunderstanding what looks like fairly simple instructions or the two elements of the instructions are inconsistent with one another.

I am new to mmos and I was playing an Arcane Mage but my fiance said frost mages are better so I am trying to learn how to play it and I have watched videos and gone over the icy viens information but it is still very confusing for me. I know this sounds bad but can anyone like dumb it down or like comment simpler instructions right now i am going off this attachment i made based of some advice and off of icy viens and i am only doing 4152 dps total so I am not sure if this is low or not but I am already level 120 right now

Hello all! I figured i'd make this thread to get some up to date information on the AOE rotation for unholy.  Currently i'm 935 ilvl, and I run Incstructor's fourth lesson and Soul. (For lack of a better option.) However it is my understanding that these two legendaries make for the strongest aoe rotation. Is this true?

That is my first question. My second is what is the priority for aoe when running these two. Is it to wait for defile to drop, then festering wound a target a couple times, then Scourge Strike? Or is the priority to just put Wounds on then pop them asap, dropping the defile whenever it's available. Typically I wait for defile before I start building Wounds, but given the soul and the extra talent, i suspect it's better to just aoe without Defile if it's unavailable or perhaps just better to rarely spend runes on defile? Curious as to your thoughts!

      Hi,

Im having wierd issue with Opportunity skill. It happens everytime I  have 5cp+ and  Opportunity proc.

What Im doing is casting Run Through with 5cp+, note that I have Opportunity proc, after using Run Through my Ruthlessness skill refounds 2cp so Im using free Pistol Shot with Opportunity procs. Problem is IM NOT GETTING 3rd combo point.

Anyone having simmilar issue  ?  Cant find any informations.

All applications will be reviewed and considered however if you are playing a class/spec combination we need then your chances of joining will be higher.
A little bit of info about us:
We are a group of friends and serious raiders on EU Twisting Nether looking to recruit skilled like-minded players into our roster for Mythic Legion raids and onwards. We will offer a sociable and fun raiding environment while maintaining a strong desire for progression. Our Discord is very active and we encourage all members to chat and play together not only for raids. The guild formed late March 2016 and fully cleared 13/13 Mythic Hellfire Citadel pre nerf shortly after. We've since been improving our world ranking every tier.
We currently raid 3 days per week on Mythic: Wednesday, Sunday and Tuesday 19:15-22:15 server time. While it is not a lot we try to make the most out of our time. We run optional heroic/normal/alt/previous tier raids during off days in which raiders are welcome to come to. Our members also play other games outside raid times together where anyone is welcome to join(LoL, PUBG, HotS, Overwatch etc.).
Our loot system for Mythic is RC Loot Council.
      What we expect from you:
      - We are a raiding guild with only a 9 hour per week schedule so you are expected to attend and be ON TIME! However we understand things can come up sometimes but please let us know.
      - Be able to speak and understand the English language and not be afraid to communicate with other members during raids.
      - Actively doing dungeons/world quests to improve your gear and artifact weapon.
      - Have a strong understanding of the current raid tier and be able to play your class to it's potential.
      - Always come to raids prepared(i.e. bringing food and potions, etc).
      - Come fully gemmed and enchanted with the correct stats for your class and spec.
      - Access to Discord and a working microphone.
      - Have a computer that can handle 20 man raiding and a good, stable internet connection.
      - Exorsus Raid Tools, Weakauras2 and RC Loot Council addons installed. We may ask you to install others.
If you have any further questions please contact us at battletag: Vims#21684
