hearthstone Tavern Brawl: The Dark Wanderer

This week's Tavern Brawl is Diablo themed in celebration of Diablo's twentieth anniversary. It is the eighty second Tavern Brawl.

In this Brawl, you bring your own deck to challenge the Dark Wanderer, and you will soon realise that things are not the same as in other Brawls. In the spirit in which the Brawl has been presented, I have decided not to write much about it here. The rules become apparent as you go along, and there are several unexpected happenings. I feel it would be a shame to spoil things in this article, although you are encouraged to do so in the comments below. (So if you venture down there, beware)

There is quite a lot to unearth and, of course, Blizzard have never been scared of a reference joke or two, so the real question is: Is there a cow level?

I was pleasantly surprised by this brawl. It's quite easy if you have a large card pool, but is still fun.
Also, it has replay value. Not all secrets are created equal.

Sorry, I was just pointing out that there are a whole bunch of options for the 3 secrets he plays. They aren't always the same ones, so the game always plays a bit different.

No spoiler of what happens... but something actually DOES HAPPEN when you trigger all 3 secrets! I didn't even know this at the time of my first post. Again, I won't spoil anything, but there are lists online of all the possible secrets he could have and how to trigger them. I recommend just playing a very diverse deck and doing so slowly.

There is no bonus reward for this other than it being really cool.

Also note that neither eater of secrets nor Kazan mystic can be played in the brawl; they are removed from your brawl specific collection.

Officially my new favorite card back so far. Oh and the only hint I will give is this: The secrets change from game to game.

Went in blind first try, had no idea what to expect, managed to do it with me jade shaman build. I only just managed to nuke him down in time since I had 2 health left. This is a replay of the whole thing if you're interested

Best I could do after hitting fatigue 11 HP using a dragon priest including Priest of the Feast... He only had a few cards left.

This is a lot of fun, so I have two more servers to play it on, Asia is going to be a challenge with only a small card pool - and I love the Diablo card back :--)

The Wow achievement you can get during the 20 years Diablo celebration explicilty says 'there is no cow level' though...

They should have made the card back "fill up" depending how far you progressed. Would have been pretty awesome! Or some kind of fiery background that gets more demon-esque.

I got to 125 minions destroyed and 60 bovines killed... but as soon as i killed number 60 the game auto ended and I lost. I was able to recreate the scenario again. Has anyone else experienced this? Or gotten close to my numbers :)

I probably got lucky on the secret choice. I played basically nothing with my jade druid, then played Aya Blackpaw and triggered all 3 secrets at once. It's funny how most of the secrets seem to help you more than the Dark Wanderer. Is this based on the Diablo encounter/lore?

Well, if you want a spoiler on the secrets, you can watch Disguised Toast's youtube video about it.

Also, I somehow managed to steal the portal to the secret level, which was fun :D

Well, my numbers weren't the best, but I did manage to fatigue the boss.

Stealing his bovines and then playing N'Zoth gave me some giggles.

Jade druid. Had 60 cards from the middle game, and 60 armor. He only had 1 card left (and 1 life), when on 90 turn we both exploded.

This is because the game has a preset MAX turns that can happen in any game, 89 turns to play to be exact and on the 90th turn both heroes will explode

For the past few days, top players have been discussing the pros and cons of the new MMR change at Legend Ranks. The only problem being, that Game Designer, Iksar, isn't aware of a change.
There are far fewer Legendary players than usual this season, and as such things might feel a little different to the players, but the sample size across many streams and thousands of games of Hearthstone seems to point to the changing of the matchmaking system. It has been accepted by most that the system has changed so that you only play opponents in a very narrow band, rather than the previous system where you could be matched with someone with a wildly different Legend Rank.
That alone might not have been enough evidence, but players are also queuing into the same opponent multiple times, to the point that they are having to play mind games on which deck to queue.

Hoej independently witnessed the same thing, and went to Twitter to check that he was not alone. Several Legendary players agreed that the system has been changed, and people began to discuss what they thought of the changes.
Placeholder for tweet 834430686325067776 The majority of players like the new matchmaking, although several did voice concerns that the new system heavily favours the players who reach Legend Rank early in the season. Just as the debate was getting interesting, Iksar dropped his bombshell:
At this point there are several options, and all seem unlikely. Either the entire community is suffering from some kind of huge matchmaking fluctuation, Blizzard have made a major change without informing Iksar, or there is a bug which most people preferred to the actual game. Whatever happens, the reply when Iksar has investigated is sure to be interesting!

Blizzard have announced that the next update will contain big changes to the way Arena works.
The newly announced changes will come into force at the same time as the nerfs to Small-Time Buccaneer and Spirit Claws, which we discussed previously.
The most important change will be that Arena will change from Wild format to Standard. This will help to keep Arena feeling fresh, as well as make sure that card synergies can be drafted more easily.
Changes have also been made to the distribution of cards. Common and Basic cards will show up less often, and the frequency of spells and class cards being offered has been raised. The full discussion can be found in the announcement link above, but the main reasoning is to allow players to have more opportunities to outdraft and outplay their opponents, rather than just playing the game on curve.
This philosophy will have some implications in Standard too. If Blizzard are actively trying to reduce the impact of playing on curve in Arena, this could mean that they will carry over the same thoughts into constructed play. I feel that moving away from the style, unaffectionately known as Curvestone, would be good for the game. The changes will almost certainly be welcomed in the Arena community, and it is good to see Blizzard making them now, rather than waiting for the next set to launch.

Im making a telegram bot that can send you new decks and news from https://www.icy-veins.com/hearthstone.
It already can send some decks and filter them by class and deck format.
Im going to open bot for all users in next few weeks.
      Any suggestions?
