BM : Help for relic choice

10 posts in this topic

Hi all,

First, i'm french so sorry if my english is so bad xD

I playing BM and MM spec according to the fights (principaly MM).

I optimize my BM spec for some fights on NightHold and MM+ dungeons.

I recently loot a relic 900 with Furious Swipes. I actually have a relic 880 with Pack Leader.

For BM, i know iLV is less important than mastery or weapon's feature. But, in this case, the iLV boost is important (+20) so I doubt...

Can you advise me to choose the best ? Max iLV or best feature ?

Thank you in advance,

If you're primarily using BM as M+ and occasional fights, go with the furious swipes relic as the ilvl difference is so large and M+ is almost all about clearing adds fast.

You're going to want to go with the 900 iLvl relic over the 880 iLvl relic. That's 20 iLvls to your weapon. EXTREMELY important to have that as high a level as you can get it. The only time you need to concern yourself with the actual traits that the relic is affecting is when it is between 1-4 iLvls.

That's not exactly accurate for BM hunters. The simulations section of the BM hunter guide explains that Jaws/Pack traits are the only reasonable choices for single target. 20 ilvl difference in the relic itself is not enough to go for furious swipes > jaws/pack unless, as the OP stated, the objective and sole use is for M+ dungeons.

If you're going to make a statement suggesting something that isn't backed up by sims it might be beneficial to provide your reasoning and/or evidence.

So I have the exact issue.  I got a 900 Chittering Mandible (storm relic) last night.  I can either replace my 885 Reverberating Femor in my MM weapon and give up +1 Quick shot (reduced Trueshot cd) for +1 Windrunner's Guidance (more Marked shot damage), or replace my 885 Chittering Mandible and just get the ilvl upgrade.  I know that ilvl helps MM more.

Is there a formula for calculating a projected weapon ilvl's statistics based on a relic upgrade?  Sounds like a spreadsheet kind of thing.

I really need a new Blood relic for MM, as bursting shot is really kind of a waste.

I'll disagree here from my personal experience. I would stick with the higher ilevel kill command boost....yes beast cleave is good for trash...but i found when i had 2/3 cleave i was falling behind on damage on boss fights, especially during tyrannical.

The real answer here is its up to the Hunter, both have the pros and cons. Neither is right or wrong.

Depending on the iLvl difference, I will. ( sims for single/three/six targets respectively )

I don't how you simed these result, however, replacing my 870 Jaws relic with a 885 furious Swipe relic I have in bag results in a 5k DPS loss in mono target fight.

I agree with Banard and Luthixx on this. Don't go for anything else than Jaws/Leader of the pack unless... unless... 7.2 changes relics ;-)

5K is a lot... on a 6 minutes long raid fight it's 1.800.000 damage. With tyrannical affixe it does make a difference too.

My ilvl 896 BM hunter w/ concordance was using the talents Dire stable, DF, BF, AMOC and killer cobra along with the 4pc t19 set, 24% crit, 17% haste, 80% mastery, Lego belt and Prydaz and doing terrible single target DPS today on the raid dummy using my usual rotation. I even dipped to 590k dps at one point. Without flasks and food this number was usually sitting above 800k, even peaking at 1.3m sometimes after applying CDs, so I'm wondering what I need to do to get back to my usual numbers? I know we got a buff in 7.2.5 but I'm really stumped as to why my build is just seemingly entirely useless now and if I'll ever be returning to it. I tried using stomp and swapping out my ring to be 29% crit, 17% haste and 70% mastery and saw a slight difference, but it just seems pretty crappy still.

I noticed I'm doing absolutely horrible on H guldan. I've done anywhere from 360-400k dps on him, still no kill yet either, yet on the other bosses I pretty much have no issue getting enough damage in. My ilvl is 892 and here's a list of what I have on me at the moment. I sadly do not have logs.

      Hello there,
I'm maining a Beast Mastery Hunter this expansion. I've always mained a healer previously so being (good at) DPS is a first for me. I feel like I've achieved as much as I can on my own wit. Hence why I would like to ask someone who's perhaps more seasoned in the class to take a look at my logs to see where there is still room for improvement.
Here's my guild's most recent NH heroic clear, my toon's name is Aart:
      Skorpyron upto Elisandre Heroic: https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/A41hWFH2qJXwL9pd
Gul'dan Heroic (and Elisandre and Gul'dan Normal): https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/A8x6qWXCR4JHkGMh
      My armory: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/wildhammer/Aart/
Many thanks if you've taken the time to read and help - I'd appreciate it a lot!

Despite playing BM ever since I picked up WoW five years ago, I never really participated in raiding or competetive gameplay as such. People were happy to take me along on raid runs from time to time (I was doing pretty okay in MoP I believe) but now in Legion I first started bothering with my own class performance since I'm more or less a regular stand-in for the guild of a friend now.
Thing is just I don't exactly now how or what I'm doing. At all.

I have a rough idea about what I should be doing and what talents I should be taking for which boss depending on if AoE will be important or not, but I still feel like I'm slacking more times than necessary and I also very quickly run out of focus, which often has me standing idle until I can cast another skill. A friend told me to check Warcraft Logs - once again, I'm really inexperienced with numbers - and what it basically showed me was that my damage is very inconsistent but I don't really know why?
I got pretty good gear upgrades yesterday (I know it's not fully gemmed and enchanted yet) so I don't know how my logs will look now but I believe my gear is less of a problem here. I'm someone who still forgets fooding and flasking up sometimes, and who's still very unconcentrated while the boss fights are going on and in doing so often hits the wrong buttons or forgets things are off cd already, but I'd still like to know if I'm on the right track at least.

tldr; I'd like to know how to get out of gawky hunter status to really pull my weight in pugs. you can see my logs here (I think) and my armory here.

My opening sequence is MoC > BW & AotW > KC > DB > Titan's Thunder (bc of my Legendary) > CS > KC etc, during the fight itself I always use KC and MoC on CD. BW is used off CD as well, but I do try pairing it with AotW whenever that should be possible. Rest is just dumping Focus with CS. Is there any occasion where I save my Focus, for example when my next KC is x seconds away? Also, with the Set Bonus I have now, should I just be Stomp + Blinking Strikes only?
For my armory, I only have one question: I'm trying to go with as much Mastery as possible, but is there maybe even a cap that I should reach and then I'm actually supposed to take care of other stats? Also, I just got the Nightblooming Frond Trinket that has a few ilvls on the Entwined Elemental Foci I got from Raid Finder. Was it a good decision to replace it?

      Thank you for your time!

      Hi there,
Long time lurker here with a new hunter alt. I initially wanted to ask a question why, as opener, AMoC is cast before Bestial Wrath. I would have thought a 25% damage increase on such a strong DoT would not be something to miss out on. However, halfway I realised that AMoC is probably considered a pet, and by casting it before BW, it too gets buffed by that. Am I correct in thinking this? If so, does that mean AMoC benefits from Titan's Thunder as well?
      Cheers,
      WebGremlin
