Game Improvements and Bug Fixes

  • Discover:
    • Cards that Discover from a random pool no longer apply a class bonus. As Discover pools have gotten more specific, some are too narrow and repetitive. This change will increase the variety of cards from random Discover pools.
  • Fixed an issue causing the mouse cursor to become the eye cursor after exiting the Tavern in Tombs of Terror
  • Dire Frenzy should now properly generate golden cards if the target minion is golden
  • Hero powers rewarded from Quest cards should now properly become visually disabled on the turn the Hero power is rewarded if Mindbreaker is in play
  • Elise the Enlightened will now duplicate cards in hand from left to right, instead of randomly
  • Newly discovered Hero powers from Sir Finley of the Sands should now properly become visually disabled if Mindbreaker is in play
  • Fixed several visual and sound issues when a Hero power is replaced (either by Quest completion or Sir Finley of the Sands) after the original Hero power was already used that turn

How much lower, does anyone know? How are we supposed to decide what we want to do if we do not know?

The Tombs have opened, the plagues of Uldum have been unleashed, and the League of E.V.I.L.’s plans are set in motion. Now, the world needs you, the League of Explorers, to delve into the Tombs of Terror, fight back against the League and their Lackeys, and save the world!
Here’s what you’ll find lurking in the Tombs of Terror:
      Plague Lords

The League of E.V.I.L. has unleashed powerful plague lords onto the world, and it’s up to you to stop them! These larger-than-life monstrosities have gigantic persistent health pools. So, while you might not best them on your first attempt, you’ll pick up where you left off on the next run!
      Dual-Class Heroes!

When they aren’t delving the depths of deserted dunes, Elise, Brann, Finley, and Reno have spent their spare time in the desert learning new crafts.
      Powerful Signature Treasures!

Dig into your pack of tools and start your run with a powerful signature treasure of your choice.
Unlocked by completing challenges and bosses during your runs, your pack will fill out with tons of magical loot and powerful cards as you progress through the Tombs of Terror.
      LET'S GET STARTED!

      Chapter 1: The Lost City
Buried under the sands of Uldum for countless eons, the League of Explorers has clashed with the first of the terrible Plague Lords in the Lost City of the Tol’vir. Reno has secured his hat, strapped on his Gatling Wand and, in his usual fashion, is diving headlong into the Lost City to battle the Plague Lord of Murlocs!
The Plague Lord of Murlocs has slipped some slimy friends into the decks of both players and bosses. Draw a “Surprise! Murlocs!” card to summon a random number of Murlocs onto your board.

      Chapter 2: Scorching Dunes
Trekking across mile after mile of coarse, rough, and irritating sand would test the mental limits of even the most stalwart champions. It’s no surprise that in these dunes is where Sir Finley Mrgglton will square off against the Plague Lord of Madness!
The Plague of Madness has affected the minions played in the Scorching Dunes! At the end of each player’s turn, their right most minion will attack a random enemy!

In an effort to improve Masters Qualifiers and Masters Tour events, Blizzard outlined adjustments that will be implemented on October 1.
      Blizzard (Source)
We’ve surveyed a number of Masters Qualifier players to get a better understanding of pain points in the current structure of the program. Today, we’re ready to share the changes we’ll be making to improve Masters Qualifiers and Masters Tour events. The adjustments outlined here will be implemented on October 1 and are explained in more detail below.
      Masters Qualifiers and Ladder
Masters Tour Qualifiers will use the Conquest, best-of-three, 3 decks with a ban format. Masters Qualifiers will be expanded to a maximum capacity of 512 players. To reduce tournament lengths, we will be changing all Masters Qualifiers to single elimination. If a player makes Top 8 at least six times in a qualifying season currently, they will earn an invite. To make this qualification path easier, we’re reducing this number down to five. We will be going back to only awarding the first-place competitor in Masters Qualifiers with an invite to its corresponding Masters Tour event. We are adding more pack prizing to Masters Qualifiers. We will be giving direct invites for Masters Tour events to the Top 16 not-yet-invited ladder players from each region at the end of every month, totaling out to 96 invites per qualifying period. Masters Tour
We will be changing the format for the Masters Tour to Conquest, best-of-five, 4 decks with a ban format, starting with Masters Tour Bucharest. We are scaling back the number of Swiss rounds each Masters Tour has from the current 12 down to 9 and will be moving to a single-elimination bracket for the Top 8 of Masters Tour events.
      Regarding Format Changes
When we announced Specialist at the beginning of the year, we listened carefully to the feedback of the participating players. We appreciate the response from the community and have decided to make the following changes. Starting October 3, Masters Qualifiers will use the Conquest, best-of-three, 3 decks with a ban format. This is to ensure that the format is simple for new players entering the competitive system.
Based on the feedback from Masters Tour players, we will be changing the format for the Masters Tour to Conquest, best-of-five, 4 decks with a ban format, starting with Masters Tour Bucharest. Given that this format change increases the average time it takes to complete a round, we are scaling back the number of Swiss rounds each Masters Tour has from the current 12 down to 9. To further reduce the length of days, we will be going to a straight single-elimination bracket for the Top 8 of the tournament. We feel that the additional games per match adequately offset the reduction in total matches played.
      Regarding Masters Qualifier Changes
To free up the aforementioned invites we’re allocating for Ladder finishes, we will be going back to only awarding the first-place competitor in Masters Qualifiers with an invite to its corresponding Masters Tour event, instead of both the winner and runner up. We also need to adjust the threshold for the number of Top 8 finishes in each qualifying period. If a player makes Top 8 at least 6 times in a qualifying season currently, they will earn an invite. We’re bumping this number down to 5.
Additionally, one of the biggest pieces of feedback we received was that Masters Qualifiers are taking too long. Right now, single elimination tournaments are taking 6 hours on average, compared to 12 hours with Swiss. To reduce lengths of tournaments, we will be changing all Masters Qualifiers to single elimination.
We’ll also be expanding Masters Qualifiers to a maximum capacity of 512 players. We are making this change so that we won’t have to turn anyone away from a Masters Qualifier that they’d like to participate in, which we have experienced in European Qualifiers specifically.
      New Breakdown of Invites
With ladder playing a larger role in qualifying paths for Masters Tours, we wanted to take inventory of all paths into a Masters Tour. Our goal is to offer approximately 350 invites into each event. Here is the new breakdown for how Masters Tour Invitations will be distributed:

      Packs on Packs on Packs
Finally, since we’ve increased the number of participants in each tournament, we wanted to rework the tournament pack prizing. You can see the new pack prizing in the chart below. Overall this represents an addition in pack prizes compared to the past.
      Finish Prizes Packs Per Prize Finish 1-2 20 40 3-4 15 30 5-8 10 40 9-16 5 40 17-32 4 64 33-64 3 96 65-128 2 128 129-256 1 128 Total Packs Given   566
This post is only a summary of the changes, the official rules spell out the exact competition details. In addition to the above changes, our tournament platform partner Battlefy is excited to share additional features they have been working on. We will be announcing the location and qualification timeline of the next Masters Tour in the coming days, so keep it tuned to playhearthstone.com/esports!
