Initial Preview of Assaults in Patch 8.3

Recommended Posts

HendfZM.jpg

Visions of N'Zoth marks the return of Assaults, but this time, it gets better. Blizzard's using old zones and makes mobs scale to max level, and on top of that, they're using technology from Mechagon and Nazjatar to make the new feature more dynamic.

Other Patch 8.3 Content:

We visited the Vale of Eternal Blossoms in Pandaria on 8.3 PTR. The location of Assaults will be marked with an icon on the world map and when you enter a zone that is currently under assault, there's a border of the area and objectives that need to be completed in order to successfully drive the enemy forces away.

The main Assault objective "Assault: The Warring Clans" rewarded Leather Grips of item level 410 and 70 Gold.

You can interact with various game objects and complete quests to bring the bar all the way to 100%.

WoWScrnShot_100819_113138.jpg

The quests are marked as blue exclamation marks on the map and reward War Resources.

An Assault is finished when you bring the bar to 100% and claim your rewards. The objectives are dynamic so long as you remain within the marked area. We had to extinguish fire and free petrified warriors.

The Assaults themselves are going to vary too. While Pandaria was attacked by the Mogu, Uldum was attacked by N'Zoth's forces.

that's a lot given out before blizzcon. I guess that's to focus on the next exp for blizzcon itself

Pretty sure the strategy is:

1) Info dump about 8.3 and any other new stuff we can to take attention away from a certain hearthstone kerfuffle.    Yes, tinfoil hat territory but usually they draw the info stream out for weeks ("and coming next week, the pandaren female model!"), we're getting massive dumps with 24 hours of the protest interview

2) Blizzcon=Diablo 4 and 9.0 Wow, maybe a new character in overwatch and outline the decision to move Warcraft III to next year.   Hearthstone (nervous laugh) no news on that!

Pretty much what I'm expecting, they can go into further detail about 8.3, like they did last time about 8.2. Next expansion will likely receive some basic info about features, cinematic etc., with more details revealed in following months. There is indeed much trouble surrounding them right now, and even Diablo Immortal fiasco from last year still lingers in the distance...

Warcraft 3 apparently can't be moved, because they would have to refund pre-orders due to laws in some EU countries.

Interesting...I can only imagine an 11th hour, Dec 31st release?   Probably with a massive post launch patch?    That we're mid-October and haven't heard a _peep_ about Warcraft III rerelease...yeah.

Perhaps not long after Blizzcon? It's a remaster after all, seems they don't treat it as worthy of having marketing. SC:Remastered also had very little before release, except some event in Korea.

Why market a game that:

1. People buy regardless of marketing - nostalgic fanboying.

2. It's already been marketed, when they announced it.

I'd say that's enough considering the game was markedet when it originally came out.

But hey, they might market it some right before it releases, a little event as the other guy commentet about SC1. Oh and yes, I've bought the game myself. Why does it matter if it comes out late that day? Can't wait another hour for a game that's already out there? Always have the, rather wait, than rush mentality for games. Lest you want COD games that is.

Conclusion: They figured marketing would not profit in more sales --> considering the marketing cost.

I'm always excited for an opportunity to re-explore Azeroth. It never made sense that "older" zones were excluded from the narrative arc, especially zones with established lore and locations critical to the ongoing plot at large. I was really pumped in Legion to head back to Ulduar and such, all with new challenges and signs that we exist (virtually) in an actual living, breathing world instead of experiencing so many (and often exclusively) static instances.

The big hotfix lists continue today as we're in day 3 of the streak. We have raid fixes for the final two bosses of Ny'alotha, focusing on some legendary cloak issues and N'Zoth sanity issues, corrupted item damage now scales with their item level instead of a players attack or spell power, a Vulpera racial fix and more!

The Lash of the Void corrupted item tweak they announced earlier isn't listed here with the the others though, so it's unclear if the hotfix isn't in the game or it was just not added to these notes.
      January 23 (source)
      Allied Races
Vulperas’ Bag of Tricks (racial) cooldown is now correctly modified by haste. Creatures and NPCs
Lorewalker Cho should once again be visible to all players in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Dungeons and Raids
Operation: Mechagon In Mechagon Junkyard and Mechagon Workshop on Mythic Keystone difficulties, end-of-run chests now award Engine of Mecha-Perfection, or Blueprint: Perfectly Timed Differential, or Progression Sprockets for players’ Vision of Perfection (Essence). Ny'alotha, the Waking City Carapace of N’Zoth Resolved an issue where using Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve while in the Den of Transfusion may fail to bring players to Wrathion's side. Resolved an issue where using Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve could remove some player buffs when used. Resolved an issue where Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve's cooldown was not being reset upon the encounter starting. Reduced the health of Mycelial Cysts by 30%. N’Zoth the Corruptor Dispelling corrupted mind should not drain sanity ever, and letting it expire naturally should. Horrific Visions
Fixed an issue where players on the quest “Reconstructing ‘Fear and Flesh’” who skipped all Corrupted Area objectives and completed a Lost Area objective first would not get 1 of their 2 Torn Page of "Fear and Flesh" for that run. Items and Rewards
Corrupted Items Damage dealt by Infinite Stars, Twisted Appendages, and Gushing Wound (Corrupted Effects) is now based on the item level of a Corrupted item, rather than scaling dynamically with Attack Power and Spell Power. Developers’ note: Previously the damage dealt by these powers was modified by Attack Power and Spell Power, which meant that certain specialization abilities or random bonuses could cause drastic swings in their effectiveness. Infinite Stars in particular was too strong against single targets as a result of this and other factors. This change also adjusts Infinite Stars base damage accordingly, as the scaling method was one of the primary factors behind some of the extreme outliers we saw in our logs and from player feedback. Our goal with this change and other adjustments to Corruption powers is to improve parity in the effectiveness per point of Corruption of the different bonuses available on Visions of N’Zoth items. Grand Delusions ’ (Corrupted Effect) summoned entity no longer despawns when its owner is crowd controlled by enemy players. Fixed a bug that allowed the Lurking Schemer's Band a small chance at rolling a socket in addition to its baseline socket. Corrupted Gladiator's Spite now has a distinct visual difference between hostile corruption pools and allied corruption pools. Humming Black Dragonscale ’s visual effect should no longer break some animations and will now appear as intended when mounted. Quests
Dying during “Waking a Dreamer ” can cause players to be unable to see Goldrinn and turn in the quest. While D.I.S.C.O. may be fun for some, dancing is now prohibited within the vicinity of the Chamber of Heart teleporter. Rugged Hyena Pelts now drop from all hyenas in Uldum as well as Amathet Hunters. Players with the Skinning skill will still be able to skin the hyenas for a guaranteed pelt, in addition to any that drop.

The damage done by Infinite Stars, Twisted Appendages, and Gushing Wound will be based on the item level of the Corrupted Item instead of scaling dynamically with Attack Power and Spell Power. Lash of the Void damage received the same treatment and now procs less often than it used to.
You can find out more details in today's hotfixes.

With a hotfix that is now live on all realms, we’ve adjusted the damage done by several Corruption Effects:
Damage dealt by Infinite Stars, Twisted Appendages, and Gushing Wound is now based on the item level of the Corrupted item. This previously scaled dynamically with Attack Power and Spell Power. Lash of the Void damage is now based on the item level of the Corrupted Item, and now procs less often than before. Previously the damage dealt by these powers was modified by Attack Power and Spell Power, which meant that certain specialization abilities or random bonuses could cause drastic swings in their effectiveness.
