The Single Best Item in Shadowlands at the Moment: Wormhole Generator

Recommended Posts

You probably know about Wormhole Generators in general from past expansions and haven't really thought about them lately, and I was in the same situation until recently. Let's start with a TLDR info stat sheet before I get into my story:

Item: Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands Wormhole Generator: Shadowlands, Requires Engineering profession
Where to get it: Either Honored with Undying Army or MUCH EASIER, just buy it from the AH for around 5-6K gold.
Why you absolutely need it and maybe should re-roll to engineering: You can immediately get it when you learn SL engi. It has a 15 minute (!) cooldown, opens a portal and you can choose to go to any of the Shadowlands zones, INCLUDING Oribos and the Maw. It puts you in specific locations in the zones which could also be beneficial due to close by World Quests etc., so you can even use it inside the zone you're in to get to the other side quickly.

Now, on to my personal story! Around the start of the expansion I rolled blacksmithing on my new Warrior, even leveled it to 80 or so to make some legendary plate items for myself (but ended up buying them instead). As I played more and more the flight paths and Oribos-bound Hearthstone were really starting to annoy me, and I'm even one of those players that really likes no flight for a good long while in expansions.

So I looked around for some solutions and found there's a new Wormhole Generator for engineering. I decided to swap out professions as I've always wanted to fiddle with engineering anyway, and started to gather up Undying Army reputation. It's a really short grind, as you just do all the zone quests, a few World Quests and a week's worth of the broker bonus reputation weekly quests and you're pretty much done. What I didn't know was the insanely easier alternative, which is simply buying the toy from the Auction House, for a measly 5,000 gold (on my server anyway). I've now started selling a few of them for this very reason as well.

The actual benefit is insane to be perfectly honest with you. This is THE best single item upgrade I've ever gotten in WoW, due to the pretty annoying nature of the Shadowlands travel system. The 15 minute cooldown is just comically short, it allows me to set my HS in my Covenant Sanctuary (although you could already do this by just using your Dalaran HS to go to Org/SW and then Oribos, but that's 3 loading screens right there and even with a very fast SSD, it's annoying). I mean seriously, 15 minutes is less than some World Quests take, when you factor in getting there etc.

It genuinely is worth contemplating switching out your profession if you're not that tied to it, as you could IMMEDIATELY have the item available to you, as soon as you learn Shadowlands engineering. I realize many have some long lists of profession recipes learned that they'd never want to part with, but if you have a gathering profession that you don't use to excessively farm, it might be worth switching out, at least until the next content patch when we might get flying already. If not, it's definitely an option for alts, if they don't have the long list of recipes in their own professions.

For me, I can't live without it at the moment, from being able to jump into Calcis in the Maw directly, to having access to each zone every 15 minutes, not to mention the insane other befits of engineering, especially in the Maw itself. As mentioned at the beginning, I even use it to get across a zone I'm already in, if I'm at the other end of the Wormhole landing location!

That's about it, I just wanted to share this expansion-altering experience with everyone and I hope this has been at least somewhat helpful and gets at least a few people onto the Wormhole express!

Fun side story: I was getting that final Maw screenshot for the article a few mins ago, ported in took the screenshot and as i was taking it noticed I'm at level 5 Eye of the Jailer, got hit by the tower chains level 2 thing, grabbed by the abductor, somehow managed to beat him (luckily I'm a Warrior so he can take me to orbit for all I care, no fall damage here), and then FRANTICALLY Dalaran HSed out.

This has been how the Wormhole Generators have worked since MOP.  I don't understand why people are all excited about Wormhole Generators "Now".

https://www.wowhead.com/item=87215/wormhole-generator-pandaria

This just seems weird to someone who has had Engineering as a profession on my Main since TBC.  Are people just now realizing the Engineering actually has good things?  Even Reeves from Legion had a module for a Wormhole Generator.

This is like News from 10 years ago... This isn't current expansion information in any way.

I guess its also probably news that Engineers have a BRez too... for like 8 years.

This thing isn't news, but what it does that not all previous versions did is always take you the the same, safe place. This allows you to bypass that long annoying flight from wherever you are to Oribos, then to that island right next to you on the map. Previous versions often took you to an insta death type spot which was different every time you used it.

And also.. you'd be surprised how many don't know about the brez engineering thing. Our group almost wiped except my hunter (engineer) and the DH that was tanking. Engineering rezzed the completely confused priest and boss downed.

First, "TLDR" is a dead thing, please stop using it. It never made any sense in the first place to tell people "Oh please, don't read what I typed." It's the reader's choice, and it's the writer's choice if they wanna write a book they expect no one to read 🙂

Second, I agree, the WH generator has finally started seeing its time. It was always a bit hokey before, but these new ones are GREAT!

Most of my alts have Eng now, especially as the Wormhole generator often only requires level 1 engineering for that expansion, so they can use as soon as they hit the area.  Plus!  It's classed as a toy so buy/make once, and usable by all of your alts.

Eh TLDR is an OK tool when you just want to summarize a lot of extra info into it's basics. Could just say "here's a summary of the below" or something, same thing!

The fourth War Within Alpha build brought some changes to Skyriding powers.
      Skyriding Power Changes
Skyriding Basics- While falling from a high location, your mount Dragon Isles drake extends its wings to propel you both forward. Pointing yourself downward grants more momentum. Evening out can transfer that momentum forward. Pointing yourself upward slows you down. When at your slowest, you will start to fall slowly toward the ground. You also gain access to the following abilities: Surge Forward Flap forward. Skyward Ascent Flap upward. Skyrider's Initiative- While dragonriding skyriding at middle speed and above, you gain stacks of Dragonrider's Skyrider's Initiative, up to 10. When landing at mid-to-high speeds, you create a shockwave, damaging enemies for [ Greater of {72% of Spell Power} or {72% of Attack Power * (1 + 0) / 10} ] per stack, split among them, and disorienting them for 3 sec. Landing at low speeds cancels Dragonrider's Skyrider's Initiative. Skyrider's Hunt- Defeating an enemy increases your Vigor  will grant your you 1 vigor. Vigor recharge rate by 10% for 3 sec. This effect can only occur once every 10 sec. Ground Skimming- When dragonriding skyriding near the ground, you regenerate 1 Vigor every 30 sec. This effect does not occur while affected by Thrill of the Skies unless Swift Skimming is learned. Thrill of the Skies- While dragonriding skyriding at high speeds, you regenerate 1 Vigor every 15 sec. Vigor- Dragonriding Skyriding abilities spend Vigor. Spending time on the ground, whether mounted or dismounted, regenerates 1 Vigor every 30 sec. Skyrider's Cultivation- Gathering herbs or minerals increases your Vigor recharge rate by 400% for 3 sec will replenish 1 vigor. Skyrider's Compassion- While airborne on a Skyriding mount, Dragon Isles drake, you gain stacks of Dragonrider's Skyrider's Compassion, up to 10. When you dismount, you gain a shield worth 1% of your health and gain 1% movement speed per stack, lasting 30 sec Lift Off- When mounted on a dragonriding skyriding mount, double jump to launch upward and start gliding forward. Skyriding Skill Track
In the War Within expansion, the Dragonriding Skill Track has been updated:
Dragonriding Glyphs have been renamed to Skyriding power (current PH name is Dragon Power) You will gain extra Skyriding power as you level. The costs of all Skyriding Powers has been reduced to 1 Dragon Power. A premade Level 70 template character starts with 20 Skyriding power and can unlock all the perks in the tree.
On the right side, you can enable/disable the Ride Along feature and the second node lets you pick between Whirling Surge and Lightning Rush at no cost.

All Mists of Pandaria raids and World Bosses are on a daily lockout in Patch 10.2.7.
We're not sure if the change is intended or a MoP Remix feature, but somehow, daily lockouts for MoP raids and World Bosses have slipped through to live servers even before the event's starts on May 16. Maybe this is a way to give retail players more chances on Tusks of Mannoroth since you can buy them directly from a vendor during MoP Remix.
If you're farming Garrosh, don't forget there is a skip at the beginning of the raid. As you enter, interact with the scroll on the wall.
