The comment regarding "subterfuge having no benefit to assassination" may be outdated. with 120 energy subterfuge allows you to cast your stealthed abilities in succession, eg 2x ambush or cheapshot then an ambush. I find this incredibly useful in pvp

The recommended opener from stealth is Mutilate, as it does similar damage, can offer up to 3 combo points, and could offer a Dispatch proc.  Ambush is sort of useless.

 

Even for PvP, I'd think that Cheap Shot --> Mutilate would be best, which makes Shadow Focus the most viable option.
