Striking Precision: Viper DPS Guide for FFXIV Now Live!

Recommended Posts

Viper-Main.jpg

Viper is one of the two new Jobs coming with the release of Final Fantasy XIV's next expansion: Dawntrail! Learn everything you need to know about this melee DPS class that dual-wields swords to quickly strike foes, through our new Viper job guide!

The Viper is a melee DPS class that dual-wields two swords, which can also be combined into a twinblade for more devastating attacks. Vipers use scouting gear, the same as Ninja, with Dexterity as the main stat and aiming-type accessories. The Job will start at Level 80 and can be unlocked in Ul'dah if you own Dawntrail and already have another class at Level 80.

Viper's focus lies on shifting between dual-wielding and twinblades while making use of various buffs and debuffs. Additionally, you will also be able to attack from range, if needed.
Here are the core mechanics of the Job:

  • Basic Rotation Flow: a 3-hit Weaponskill rotation: Left Fang, Right Fang, and Twinblade:
    • Combo Progression:
    • First Hit:
      • Left Fang: High damage.
      • Right Fang: Inflicts debuff to increase damage taken by the enemy.
    • Second hit: Choose between damage buff (Left Fang) or haste buff (Right Fang).
    • Third hit: Four options, but the available choice depends on your second hit; triggers also an additional off-global cooldown action for extra damage.
    • Twinblade Combo: 3-hit combo.
      • First hit: always applies the Right Fang debuff.
      • Second hit: provide a damage buff.
      • Third hit: provides a haste buff
  • Viper Juice and Reawakening: Executing the combos mentioned above will generate the “juice”. Using it will execute a Reawakening action.
    vpr_juice_gauge.png
    • Viper Juice: +10 with a basic 3-hit combo. 50 juice allows you to enter Reawakening.
    • Reawakening: a powerful 5-hit combo, the strongest action available.
    • Juiceless Awakening: a 2-minute cooldown action for Reawakening without using Juice. The action will act as normal, but you will just not spend any juice.
  • Gems and Shred: Executing some actions will generate additional Gems on the Job gauge. These Gems will trigger a Shred action:
    • Red Gem: Generated by Twinblade combo's first hit or Juiceless Awakening.
    • Shred: Ranged Weaponskill that will deal a high amount of damage, but with a long cooldown. Shred will also trigger a 2-hit off-global action chain for additional ranged damage.

Be aware that all this information is pre-media tour information and is subject to change!

The Viper is a powerful blade user that will manage haste and damage buffs while debuffing the target and is using hard-hitting melee attacks, together with the ability to go in range if needed. Overall, it seems that this job is going to be a lot of fun and will bring some interesting new gameplay to Final Fantasy XIV. You can learn more about the Viper in our recently released DPS Guide below:

In this guide, you will find details about each combo, the specificities of the class, the various rotations, and more! The guide will be updated anytime new information or more details are available, as well as after more in-game testing of the class, to ensure that you always have access to an up-to-date guide!

The recent release of Dawntrails' new raid series, Arcadion, allows players to combat in a massive arena. Of course, such an occasion requires matching music! To that end, Square Enix collaborated with Against the Current singer and songwriter Chrissy Constanza!
With the release of the Arcadion Raid series, players who have already gotten through AAC Light-heavyweight M4 have heard the new song called “Give it All” and probably thought it was an amazing tune, fitting the challenge!
You can have a sneak-peak at the featured song below:
Square Enix held an interview with Chrissy Constanza to learn how she felt about creating music for Final Fantasy XIV! Here is what we learned:
Chrissy is extremely honored to voice one of the "villains" and to be a part of the iconic Final Fantasy series. Having her music featured in FFXIV is a dream come true, as she has been surrounded by the Final Fantasy series most of her life. She put great effort into getting into the character's head while singing the theme song to make sure all the feelings would be transmitted during the raid fight. Chrissy has been both a musician and a gamer her whole life, and being able to combine those two passions is amazing!
"Music is the foundation of so much of the world, it can completely change the emotional landscape of your experience... it's more than just a song, and it's more than just a game." - Chrissy Constanza
If you want to read the full interview, head over here: Q&A: Against the Current's Chrissy Constanza talks Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
If you have not experienced the new raid yet, we highly recommend checking it out, as it is a truly unique challenge! And if you have already cleared the raid, let us know your thoughts on the music and the fights!

Naoki Yoshida, who returned to the Japan Expo in Paris after 5 years, has given some interesting information during various interviews with French fans and media outlets, providing details about Dawntrail and the future of FFXIV!
At Japan Expo, producer and director Naoki Yoshida made a highly anticipated return to meet French fans after a five-year absence. This visit coincided with the recent release of the latest expansion, Dawntrail. Furthermore, the interview, which was conducted in collaboration with FFDream and facilitated by Odilon Grevet, head of French localization, covered various aspects of the game.
Below, we will go over the most interesting talking points:
      Balance and Gameplay
Yoshi-P stated that he was very happy about reconnecting with fans and discussed the challenges of balancing game difficulty and progression, particularly for new players. He also mentioned the possibility of creating an "intermediate hall" to bridge the knowledge gap, but expressed a few concerns about potential community division.
On top of that, Yoshida also highlighted FFXIV's technical difficulties, emphasizing the issues caused by server-client connections. Despite these limits, the development team is still committed to improving gameplay and exploring new ideas.

      FFXIV Lore
Regarding the game's storyline, Yoshi-P hinted at unresolved mysteries left by the Ascians, suggesting that future content may delve into these lingering questions without going over old plots.
Furthermore, concerning the many references to previous Final Fantasy games in FFXIV, particularly in Dawntrail, Yoshida explained that they are not systematized but are the result of the team's passion for the franchise. The goal is to pay homage to past titles and introduce FFXIV players to other Final Fantasy games they might not have played.
Yoshi-P also mentioned the complex lore of the game, encouraging players to explore content like the Aloalo Island Dungeon for a deeper understanding, talked about the branch theory of space-time within FFXIV, where multiple timelines exist, and hinted at ongoing battles in alternate realities.
      Story Skip Option
On the topic of allowing new players to skip previous expansions and start directly with Dawntrail, Yoshida revealed that such a system was considered but ultimately rejected. He emphasized the importance of the game's story and the community's role in mentoring new players, stating that skipping content would undermine these elements.
      Cultural Inspiration

Last but not least, Yoshi-P addressed the team's efforts to draw inspiration from different cultures for Dawntrail. Although they could not travel due to time constraints, the scenario team visited a Mesoamerican art exhibition in Tokyo to capture the expansion's atmosphere. Yoshida also acknowledged the complexity of the names used in the game, stating that they are carefully researched and meaningful, but he also hinted at a possible simplification in the future.
Overall, this interview sounds like Final Fantasy XIV has an amazing future ahead and many more adventures to come! So stay tuned for more!
If you want to read the full interview, you can find it here: JE 2024 - Interview with Naoki Yoshida
Please keep in mind that the entirety of the interview may include spoilers, so if you care about that, make sure you have finished Dawntrail before reading it.

Level 90 Mining and Botany Relics have proven to be a game-changer for players who want to collect high-value materials more efficiently! Let's go over which Gathering tools are currently the best!
      Efficiency of Endwalker Relics:
In the latest update, Final Fantasy XIV gatherers have reason to celebrate. The Level 90 Mining and Botany relics have proven to be game changers for players looking to harvest high-value resources quicker.
These relics, when combined with a high-tier set, make gathering Sunglit Aethersand - an important ingredient for raid potions - much more efficient. The meld set provides enough gathering and perception to meet the 4725 requirements needed for Goldbranch and Electrocoal, which can be broken down into Aethersand. What makes these tools special is their unique effect: a 20% increased chance to trigger collector's intuition when gathering collectables.
Looking ahead to patch 7.1, it is reasonable to assume that these tools will improve efficiency when gathering orange scrip nodes, making them even more valuable for dedicated gatherers.
Talking about Relics, if you do not have your Relic yet, you can take a look at our guide here: Splendorous Tools Guide
Optimizing Materia Farming for Disciples of the Land (DoL):
Dawntrail brought a significant change to spiritbonding, slowing it down considerably. However, items from legendary nodes from the last expansion can still be spiritbonded. This method, although it requires more effort, is much more efficient!
Gatherers can now visit up to five nodes per hour: one Dawntrail legendary, three Endwalker legendary, and Dawntrail orange scrip nodes. This strategy can get you around 65 materia per hour, making it a highly effective approach if you want to optimize your materia farming.
For more information on how this works, you can visit our guide here: Spiritbonding Guide for Crafting and Gathering
And for any other question about Gathering and Crafting, we recommend a look at our page of comprehensive Crafting and Gathering guides, such as endgame gathering, ocean fishing, scrip farming, and more: Final Fantasy XIV Guides for Crafting and Gathering

After five years, Vieras are still not able to wear hats, and players are frustrated about it!
With the release of Dawntrail, a new race has been added: the female Hrothgar. While players were thrilled that this race was finally available, there is still one thing missing: the ability for Hrothgar and Viera to wear the hairstyle and hat of their choice and not be limited to basic options, or sometimes no options at all.
Many players have been making fun of this situation since entering the Dawntrail expansion, as shown in the following Reddit posts:
      Posted by RoninK_OW:
"Entering Dawntrail as Viera, knowing I'm only gonna be able to wear 4 of the 20+ new hats..." The topic was also already brought up several months before the release of Dawntrail, as seen in this Reddit post by DrForester:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the one hat that Viera and Hrothgar will be getting in 7.0" While the community had hoped to be able to wear their favorite headwear during this long-awaited vacation, it appears that the Viera have once again been forgotten. However, players are optimistic that 8.0 will allow them to finally wear their favorite haircut and hat. Since Yoshi-P has stated that no more races will be introduced to the game in the near future, perhaps the team will have time to make holes for the bunnies' ears!
To the Vieras and Hrothgar out there, what is your favorite hairstyle or hat you would like to see your Warrior of Light wear?
