A quandary on how to maximize warlock area of effect in heroics.

3 posts in this topic

Fellow Warlocks welcome a new member into your family. I've dabbled with Demonology and thrown curse words around with Affliction in Wrath of The Lich King.

I'm out of practice and I'm in the process of learning everything about my favorite class all over again and my goal is to join a raiding team this expansion. The current state of warlocks is lackluster and some claim that the class itself is cursed with horrible resource mechanics and mobility problems or even outright shattered into tiny fragments and then hastily glued back together.

In spite of this I have chosen Demonology as my method of domination due to the on demand damage, and the perk of transforming into a demon and pretending to be a demon hunter.

TLDR;

Now with all of that out the way I'm in a quandary over how to exactly maximize my area of effect my spells and demons. I have heard that Grimoire of Service is the superior choice in certain situations, but I'm not exactly certain as how to why this is perhaps summoning another Felguard for it's cleave?

In closing I've also heard that having two different Demonology set ups in heroics one for Area of Effect and the other for the Boss encounter. Am I correct in my choice of two Demonology Talent choices?

I think you mean in CMs, you can't change talents or glyphs in a CM but you can change specs so what some have done is have two specs of the same thing but one built talent and glyph wise for single target and the other for AoE.

In a normal or heroic 5 man you can change glyphs and talents on the fly so there isn't a need to waste your other spec.

GoServ is good because the fel guard that it summons comes out spinning, the burst AoE from this combined with HoG and your normal pets spin-to-win is very powerful.

I see thanks Lockybalboa I'll be sure to keep that in mind for the future.

I have been studying my logs consistently for weeks now and trying to raise my dps. One of the main things I've figured out is that my DE uptime is crappy... However, I have tried my darnedest and can't seem to get it higher. I know i cast it after every demon summon/ summon combo and even downloaded an add on to help me track my demons and their empowerment status. I am at my wits end and NEED some practical advice! Also, if you see anything else that is a major issue please let me know.

EDIT: The characters in question are

Hey, guys. I downloaded simcraft and ran some patchwerk simulations today to help me decide which pieces of gear I want to be wearing, since I have a number of things that seem like they could be viable for my Demonology Warlock The results don't really match what the article here states, but still show Haste on top for single target, and very close to Int for 2 and 3 targets, which seems to at least somewhat match the guide here. I figured this would be good enough for me to determine which gear choices would be the best for me to equip.
However, I was curious and wanted to see what it said for a friend's character, who is a Fire Mage. From my understanding, Crit is always king for Fire Mages, but the results showed the opposite, which is making me question Simcraft as a whole. Am I doing something wrong? Must something more be done than to import your character, select the type of fight you want, which plots you desire, etc.?
Here is a link to the scaling results, labeled for convenience.

      Dear icy-veins members,

Maybe this sound realy stupid, maybe it does not, but I am very confused on the opening sequence, TBH, I realy do not KNOW what will be the opening sequence for the 2.3 - Heavy AoE and Dungeon Build as descripted in the guide under the 2.0 - Talent Cheat Sheet?!

Hopefully someone can help me answering the correct rotation. My issue is that I do NOT have enough fury build.

      Fury builders are IMO:
      1. 25% chance on summoning a gem with chaos blade and there for getting 35? fury. (but have to use chaos blades first?)
      2. just using the most bad spell demon's bite first? to get the 50 fury and then use eye beam (generating 35 fury every sec and go berserk/burst damage after?).

      3. using fel mastery (lvl99) talent instead of blind fury (lvl99) talent?! But then you miss the effect I descriped on nr.2.

I GUESS option 1 should do the trick, since it only cost 15 rage and then hopefully you get the 25% chance on making gems and then build up to 50 fury and then use the Eye Beam??
      Is this correct??

The hole main question here is: "How do you build up the correct amount of Fury in this build". It seems (with all the passive talents 100%) you can not seem to do fast "Berserk/BURST damage". I know reading the basics of DH in general (the first sentences of the guide), that the negative down points (- point) are BURST damage.

Or am I weird and I just have to button spam something?

Plz, tell me your opening sequence/order for this AOE build.

      Thanks guys
