What is Moonsign in Genshin?

Moonsign is a unique effect related to Nod-Krai characters in Genshin Impact. By using a certain number of Nod-Krai characters, your Moonsign Level will increase and grant buffs to your party. This comes in the form of the Nascent Gleam and Ascendant Gleam buffs.

When in the Nascent Gleam or Ascendant Gleam state, some effects of Skills, Talents and even Constellations change depending on each state. Examples include:

  • Light for the Frosty Night - This allows bloom reactions to CRIT when in Moonsign: Nascent Gleam, but buffs Lunar-Bloom DMG's CRIT Rate/DMG instead in Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam.
  • "Twine Warnings and Tales From the North" - Lauma's C2 and the Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam increases party members' Lunar-Bloom DMG by 40%.
  • Modular Efficiency Protocol's AoE is larger and attacks more often in Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam.
  • Silken Moon's Serenade for example provides a bigger boost with Ascendant Gleam.

To reach a specific Moonsign, you need a certain number of relevant characters in your team. Essentially, characters from Nod-Krai.

  • Moonsign: Nascent Gleam - 1 Relevant Character
  • Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam - 2+ Relevant Characters

This can include the character who benefits from the effect too. So Lauma + Aino for example is enough to proc the Ascendant Gleam effect for Lauma.

Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam Also Uses Non-Moonsign Characters

While the core piece of this gameplay mechanic is Nod-Krai/Moonsign characters, even non-Moonsign characters get a piece of the pie. When in the Ascendant Gleam state, even non-Moonsign characters provide bonuses to Lunar-Reaction DMG for the entire party.

While this lasts for 20s and can scale up to 36%, it requires more than simply having a team of 4 characters.

Moonsign Character Requirements in Genshin Impact

When non-Moonsign characters use their Elemental Skill or Burst, they grant a buff to Lunar Reaction DMG which scales off of a specific stat based on the character's element:

  • Pyro/Electro/Cryo: 0.9% Lunar DMG per 100 ATK.
  • Hydro: 0.6% Lunar DMG per 1000 Max HP.
  • Geo: 1% Lunar DMG per 100 DEF.
  • Anemo/Dendro: 2.25% Lunar DMG per 100 Elemental Mastery.

Depending on the character and their build, this can mean you will either easily hit this cap or potentially not even come close. For example Nilou can easily hit the requirements herself. Do not worry too much about always being able to hit this cap, think of it more as an added benefit.
