On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Brewmaster Monk in Mists of Pandaria Classic. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.

1.

Stat Priority for Brewmaster Monk

The stat priority for Brewmaster Monk is variable and depends on your playstyle.

1.1.

Stagger Build

This stat priority is most suitable for less experienced players, as well as those facing very hard-hitting bosses. It helps minimize the impact of personal mistakes by passively reducing the amount of burst damage taken.

  1. Expertise Rating (up to 15%) and Hit Rating (up to 7.5%)
  2. Mastery Rating
  3. Agility
  4. Critical Strike Rating
  5. Haste Rating (between 4,000 and 11,000)
1.2.

Avoidance / DPS Build

This stat priority incorporates both Critical Strike Rating and Mastery Rating, offering a balanced approach. It serves as a solid compromise between the two previously mentioned stat priorities.

  1. Expertise Rating (up to 15%) and Hit Rating (up to 7.5%)
  2. Agility
  3. Critical Strike Rating
  4. Haste Rating (between 4,000 and 11,000)
  5. Mastery Rating
1.3.

Avoidance and DPS Build

1.4.

Hybrid Stagger / DPS Build

This stat priority emphasizes Critical Strike Rating, as it increases the uptime of Elusive Brew Icon Elusive Brew. While gearing for Avoidance can reduce overall damage taken, it may leave you vulnerable to high damage spikes.

  1. Expertise Rating (up to 15%) and Hit Rating (up to 7.5%)
  2. Agility
  3. Critical Strike Rating = Mastery Rating (equal amounts)
  4. Haste Rating (between 4,000 and 11,000)
1.5.

Hit and Expertise Rating

Hit Rating and Expertise Rating improve your survivability as well as your damage per second (DPS) and threat output. First, missing with your attacks or having them parried does not generate any Chi, costing you a global cooldown (and, in the case of Keg Smash Icon Keg Smash, triggering the ability's eight-second cooldown). Further, it increases the proc rate of the healing spheres generated by Gift of the Ox Icon Gift of the Ox, since this ability requires you to land melee hits. While it may sometimes be viable to stop at 7.5% Expertise (rather than reaching the full 15%), this is generally not recommended. Reaching the 7.5% Hit takes 2,550 Rating for non-Draenei, (2,210 Rating for Draenei).

Expertise Rating reduces the chance that your melee attacks will be dodged. Bosses have a 7.5% chance to dodge attacks from behind, but as a tank you attack from the front, so up to 15% Expertise Rating are required. The Expertise soft-cap of 7.5% can be reached with 2,550 Expertise Rating, less if you belong to one of the following races and use the racial-specific weapons, you need only 2,210 Expertise Rating:

  • Dwarves: Maces (Mace Specialization Icon Mace Specialization)

  • Gnomes: One-Handed Swords (Shortblade Specialization Icon Shortblade Specialization)

  • Humans: Maces and Swords (Mace Specialization Icon Mace Specialization and Sword Specialization Icon Sword Specialization)

  • Orcs: Axes (Axe Specialization Icon Axe Specialization)

The hard cap of 15% will required 5,100 Expertise rating without benefits from racial weapon bonuses, 4,760 while using racial-specific weapons.

1.6.

Mastery Rating

Mastery Rating (Mastery: Elusive Brawler Icon Mastery: Elusive Brawler) increases the amount of damage that you Stagger with each hit. During progression content, especially against hard-hitting bosses, this is the best survival stat available. It is particularly effective at mitigating burst damage.

1.7.

Agility

Agility is a very strong survival stat. It increases your chance to dodge, your attack power (which affects Guard Icon Guard and the strength of your self-heals), and also benefits Elusive Brew Icon Elusive Brew through an Critical Strike chance.

1.8.

Critical Strike Rating

Critical Strike Rating increases the frequency with which you can use Brewing: Elusive Brew Icon Brewing: Elusive Brew, allowing you to stack it much faster. It provides less survivability than Mastery Rating, but it offers more DPS. Therefore, if bosses are not dealing heavy damage, you may prefer this stat over Mastery.

1.9.

Haste Rating

Haste Rating increases your energy regeneration rate (and thus, indirectly, your Chi generation), as well as the rate at which you proc healing spheres from Gift of the Ox Icon Gift of the Ox, since you attack more frequently. It also increases your DPS. The greatest benefit of Haste is that it allows you to use Purifying Brew Icon Purifying Brew more often. It also enables more frequent casting of Expel Harm Icon Expel Harm when you are at low health (triggered by Desperate Measures Icon Desperate Measures).

1.10.

Stamina

The stamina found on your armor pieces most of the time is enough for tanking, so you should not worry about this stat.

1.11.

Secondary Stats

Once you feel that you have no difficulty surviving with a Mastery-heavy build, you can allocate more of your secondary stats into Critical Strike Rating. As for how much Haste Rating you should have, this is largely a matter of personal preference. You are encouraged to experiment with different amounts of Haste Rating in order to determine what feels best for your playstyle. However, you should not exceed 11,000 Haste Rating, as surpassing this threshold will cause you to generate Energy faster than you are able to spend it.
