On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Windwalker Monk in Mists of Pandaria Classic. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.

1.

Stat Priority for Windwalker Monk

The stat priority for Windwalker Monk is as follows:

  1. Agility
  2. Hit and Expertise Rating (until 7.5% each);
  3. Mastery Rating (until Patch 5.4, then Mastery is lowest priority)
  4. Haste Rating
  5. Critical Strike Rating
1.1.

Agility

Agility is your primary stat, and you should prioritize it on all gear upgrades. It increases your Attack Power, which directly affects the damage of your abilities, and it also boosts your critical strike chance, further enhancing your overall DPS.

1.2.

Hit and Expertise Rating

Hit Rating reduces the chance that your melee attacks will miss their target. Against a raid boss, the miss chance is 7.5%, so your goal is to reach the 7.5% hit cap. Reaching this cap (2,550 Rating for non-Draenei, 2,210 Rating for Draenei) ensures that your attacks will never miss.

Expertise Rating reduces the chance that your melee attacks will be dodged. Bosses have a 7.5% chance to dodge attacks, so you should aim to reach the 7.5% expertise cap to ensure your attacks are never dodged. It is important to note that you should always attack bosses from behind, which prevents them from parrying your attacks. Because of this, reducing the chance for your attacks to be parried is typically unnecessary—unless a boss mechanic forces you to attack from the front. In such cases, additional Expertise Rating beyond the 7.5% cap may be useful.

The Expertise cap can be reached with 2,550 Expertise Rating. If you belong to one of the following races and use the racial-specific weapons, you need only 2,210 Expertise Rating:

  • Dwarves: Maces (Mace Specialization Icon Mace Specialization)

  • Gnomes: One-Handed Swords (Shortblade Specialization Icon Shortblade Specialization)

  • Humans: Maces and Swords (Mace Specialization Icon Mace Specialization and Sword Specialization Icon Sword Specialization)

  • Orcs: Axes (Axe Specialization Icon Axe Specialization)

1.3.

Mastery Rating

Mastery Rating is a very strong stat until Patch 5.4, when it will get nerfed and be worse than Crit. Via Mastery: Bottled Fury Icon Mastery: Bottled Fury it gives you a chance to generate an additional stack of Tigereye Brew Icon Tigereye Brew each time you gain a stack, increasing the frequency at which you can use this powerful DPS cooldown.

1.4.

Haste Rating

Haste Rating provides you with increased attack speed and energy regeneration. Ideally, you should have enough Haste that you can use anability on every global cooldown. Until you reach this point, Haste Rating is your best stat. When you get to this stage (and you are finding yourself often getting to maximum energy), then you should stop getting more Haste Rating, and you should move over to either Mastery Rating or Critical Strike Rating.

1.5.

Critical Strike Rating

Critical Strike Rating increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities.
