Frost Death Knight Guide for Mists of Pandaria Classic
Frost Death Knight remains one of the strongest melee dps in the game for the Mists of Pandaria Expansion.
On top of being a consistently high performing DPS Specialization there are some major utility that Death Knight
is able to bring to the raid. Gorefiend's Grasp is an incredible way to reposition multiple enemies at once
making it much easier to AoE them down or crowd control them.
Raise Ally allows us to resurrect a fallen
ally in combat.
Anti-Magic Zone can greatly reduce incoming Magic damage allowing your group to survive what
may otherwise be deadly damage. Frost Death Knight also brings powerful buffs like
Horn of Winter.
Is Frost Death Knight Viable in Mists of Pandaria Classic?
Yes! As highlighted above Frost Death Knight provides some incredible utility and powerful buffs that can help
fill out your group (especially in 10-man). And with recent changes made to what abilities scale with Frost's Mastery
their damage is extremely competitive with Unholy and most other melee specs. Frost has a fun, constantly changing
play style based entirely around managing procs like Rime and trying to get the most out of your
Runes and Runic Power. A Frost Death Knight is a great addition to any group regardless of the content you are doing.
Incredibly strong personal defensive cooldowns like
Anti-Magic Shell.
Great utility in the form of abilities like
Gorefiend's Grasp.
Competes with other Melee DPS especially at lower gear levels.
Powerful DPS cooldowns like
Pillar of Frost.
Very limited mobility.
Does not scale with gear quite as well as Unholy.
Very susceptible to crowd control outside of cooldowns.
Best Races for Frost Death Knight
As Horde, you can be any race but Pandaren as a Death Knight. The two races that will consistently perform the best
are Orcs and Trolls with Orc having a slight advantage. Orc provides the incredibly powerful Blood Fury buff that
greatly increases your Attack Power and synergizes incredibly all of your summoned minions like
Army of the Dead. And
speaking of minions it also has
Command which acts as a flat 2% damage increase to all of your summoned minions.
Troll is another great choice thanks to
Berserking which increases our Melee Haste by 20% for 10 seconds, pairing this
with
Pillar of Frost makes our already powerful cooldown even more potent. Troll also provides
Beast Slaying,
there are a number of Beast bosses throughout Mists of Pandaria so this flat damage increase should be something to consider.
As Alliance, you can also be any race but Pandaren for your Death Knight. There is one clear winner when it comes
to racials on Alliance and that is Worgen. Even with changes to Death's Advance Death Knight can struggle with
mobility so having access to
Darkflight helps considerably. Worgen also offers
Viciousness for some extra critical Strike.
Best Professions for Frost Death Knight
Engineering — Engineering will is a default choice as a Death Knight largely thanks to
Nitro Boosts. As mentioned above one of your single largest limiting factors as a Death Knight of any spec is your mobility so an extra button to get to where you want to be quicker is a great choice.
Synapse Springs are also a massive increase to our damage and pairs incredibly with any of our DPS cooldowns.
Blacksmithing — allows us to add extra sockets to our bracers and gloves, these extra sockets provide a considerable amount of extra stats. As a Frost Death Knight any static increase to our stats will be a noticeable increase to your damage so the ability to plug two extra Strength gems into your gear is great.
