General Information

This page is a gearing up guide for Affliction Warlocks. It is updated for World of Warcraft Legion 7.0.3. It first presents the best in slot items before listing, slot by slot, all the items, with a level higher than 640, that you can acquire in the game. We also explain how you will be competing for loot with other classes.

The other pages of our Affliction Warlock guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1. Legion Pre-Expansion Patch Gear Recommendations

Here are a few recommendations for pieces to look out for, or swap to, while we finish out the expansion in the Legion pre-patch.

1.1. Trinket Recommendations

I have listed these in order of value.

Fragment of the Dark Star Icon Fragment of the Dark Star is your strongest trinket currently. It greatly enhances your Soul Shard generation, the rate at which your Agony Icon Agony stacks up, and is not as GCD intensive if you spec into Absolute Corruption Icon Absolute Corruption (which is recommended with this trinket). It does not affect the Siphon Life Icon Siphon Life talent, however, this is not enough to displace it as our heavyweight trinket. Any item level Fragment of the Dark Star Icon Fragment of the Dark Star outperforms all trinkets listed below.

Chipped Soul Prism Icon Chipped Soul Prism is a great trinket for the plethora of secondary stats. Passive trinkets play better for Affliction now that the RPPM trinkets no long proc on the opener. Since we have significant ramp up this trinket is great for the constant damage buff it provides.

Sandman's Pouch Icon Sandman's Pouch is actually quite good if fully upgraded due to the opener damage and consistent and predictable follow up procs. It loses value if the Nithramus, the All-Seer Icon Nithramus, the All-Seer usages do not align with the proc. It is very easily obtainable, which is a nice plus.

Fleshrender's Meathook Icon Fleshrender's Meathook can be a strong choice if you have a high item level version from Mythic dungeons (710+). It is consistent and predictable as you have full control over its usage, which makes it perfect for Nithramus, the All-Seer Icon Nithramus, the All-Seer synergy.

Iron Reaver Piston Icon Iron Reaver Piston is basically good for the same reasons as Chipped Soul Prism Icon Chipped Soul Prism, though it is slightly worse due to the delta in secondary stats.

Orb of Voidsight Icon Orb of Voidsight is a solid choice on demon targets only, though it is still not quite as good as the trinkets listed above. It's also RPPM, which is extremely RNG currently and you might experience an increase in frustration playing with this trinket.

Desecrated Shadowmoon Insignia Icon Desecrated Shadowmoon Insignia is still usable, but it is unpredictable and very RNG.

Other trinkets that are decent enough for general use are the Stone of the Elements Icon Stone of the Elements, Shards of Nothing Icon Shards of Nothing, and Darmac's Unstable Talisman Icon Darmac's Unstable Talisman.

As for the rest of your gear — prioritize Haste and Mastery, though upgrades of a noticeable higher item level should be used regardless of stats. For weapons, always prioritize item level over stats if the gap is more than 1-2 item levels.

2. Loot Competition

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Demon Hunters, Paladins, Priests, and Demonology/Destruction Warlocks
Cloth Armor Mages, Priests, and Demonology/Destruction Warlocks
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Everyone
Trinkets Balance Druids, Mages, Shadow Priests, Elemental Shamans, and Demonology/Destruction Warlocks
