Talents can easily be changed, thanks to Tome of the Clear Mind Icon Tome of the Clear Mind. You will frequently find yourself changing talents and glyphs between encounters, in order to adapt your play style to different mechanics. Therefore, it is important to understand what each of your talents does and how they affect your play style.

2. Tier 1 (Level 15) Talents

Dark Regeneration Dark Regeneration Soul Leech Soul Leech Searing Flames Searing Flames

Tier 1 talents give you the choice between self-healing talents.

  • Dark Regeneration Icon Dark Regeneration restores 20% of maximum life to you and your demon over 12 seconds. During these 12 seconds, it also increases the healing you and your pet received by 25%. Dark Regeneration has a 2-minute cooldown.
  • Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech is a passive ability that causes your Incinerate Icon Incinerate, Shadowburn Icon Shadowburn, and Chaos Bolt Icon Chaos Bolt to grant you and your demon a shield that absorbs 15% of the damage they dealt and that lasts for 15 seconds. Dealing damage with these abilities while a Soul Leech shield is already active on you will simply refresh the shield and add 15% of the damage dealt to what remained of the previous shield. The shield's absorb value caps at 15% of your maximum health.
  • Searing Flames Icon Searing Flames causes Ember Tap Icon Ember Tap to do 50% more healing and refund 50% of its Burning Ember cost.

Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech is the default talent of this tier. The synergy between Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech and Charred Remains Icon Charred Remains is extremely strong and allows you to consistently keep your shield high. It also works with Fire and Brimstone Icon Fire and Brimstone which has a lot of use on a variety of encounters. Lastly, it is entirely passive so there is no need to manage it and no opportunity for human error. Dark Regeneration Icon Dark Regeneration has no use in the current tier (Hellfire Citadel). Avoid speccing Searing Flames Icon Searing Flames as Ember Tap Icon Ember Tap is a significant damage loss. Overall, Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech provides by far the highest increase in survivability, allowing you to stand in mechanics such as Fel Hellstorm on Mannoroth without your health bar even budging.

3. Tier 2 (Level 30) Talents

Howl of Terror Howl of Terror Mortal Coil Mortal Coil Shadowfury Shadowfury

Tier 2 talents give you the choice between several crowd control abilities.

  • Howl of Terror Icon Howl of Terror causes 5 enemies within 10 yards to be disoriented for 20 seconds. The effect can be canceled by damage.
  • Mortal Coil Icon Mortal Coil is both a crowd control and a survival ability. It causes the target to run in fear for 3 seconds and restores 11% of your maximum health. The healing component of the spell does not work on target who are immune to fear effects (i.e. raid bosses). Mortal Coil has a 45-second cooldown.
  • Shadowfury Icon Shadowfury stuns all enemies within 8 yards for 3 seconds.

Shadowfury Icon Shadowfury usually is the default choice for raiding, as it helps control adds. The other talents are almost never useful.

4. Tier 3 (Level 45) Talents

Soul Link Soul Link Sacrificial Pact ? Sacrificial Pact Dark Bargain Dark Bargain

Tier 3 talents offer damage reduction mechanics. You have the choice between the following talents.

  • Soul Link Icon Soul Link causes 20% of the damage you take to be transferred to your demon and causes 3% of the damage you do to be healed back to you and your demon. This ability is only active when you have a demon active. Fall damage is not transferred to your demon.
  • Sacrificial Pact Icon Sacrificial Pact causes your demon to sacrifice 20% of its current health to give you a 20-second shield that absorbs up to 400% of the sacrificed health. If you do not have a demon out, 20% of your health is sacrificed instead. Sacrificial Pact is on a 1-minute cooldown.
  • Dark Bargain Icon Dark Bargain prevents all damage (except fall damage) for 8 seconds. After the 8 seconds are up, 50% of the damage prevented is dealt over 8 seconds (as Shadow damage). It has a 3-minute cooldown.

Soul Link Icon Soul Link is the best talent on this row, and possibly the best defensive talent in the game. With Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice it scales extraordinarily well with Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech, your Level 15 talent, by increasing the maximum shield value. It also has strong synergy with your personal cooldown, Shadow Bulwark Icon Shadow Bulwark.

Sacrificial Pact Icon Sacrificial Pact is usable on fights where you need to soak a large chunk of damage or you have to stay out of range of healers for an extended period. It is very important to note that Sacrificial Pact Icon Sacrificial Pact gives you a shield based on a percentage of your current health, so it must be used proactively instead of reactively for maximum effectiveness, making it only useful for premeditated mitigation (i.e. Black Hole on Xhul'horac).

5. Tier 4 (Level 60) Talents

Blood Horror Blood Horror Burning Rush Burning Rush Unbound Will Unbound Will

Tier 4 talents offer crowd control and utility abilities that cost health to use.

  • Blood Horror Icon Blood Horror causes enemies to run in horror for up to 4 seconds, if they melee you while Blood Horror is active. Activating Blood Horror costs 5% of your maximum health. Once activated, Blood Horror lasts 1 minute.
  • Burning Rush Icon Burning Rush is an ability that you can toggle on and off without restriction. While it is active, your movement speed is increased by 50% but you lose 4% of your maximum health every second. During Burning Rush, movement-impairing effects cannot reduce your movement speed below 100% (your regular running speed).
  • Unbound Will Icon Unbound Will removes all magic and movement-impairing effects from your character and your demon, as well as effects that cause loss of control of your character and your demon. It has a 2-minute cooldown and costs 20% of your maximum health.

Burning Rush Icon Burning Rush is extremely useful on fights where you need to move quickly (especially if there is no damage while you have to move). The damage this ability deals to you can be absorbed by shields. Also, you can cancel Burning Rush while casting a spell, so do not hesitate to first start casting a spell after you are done moving and then cancel Burning Rush.

Unbound Will Icon Unbound Will can be useful to remove harmful debuffs, movement-impairing effects, and all effects that cause you to lose control of your character. Note that if you are a Human Warlock, then you already have Every Man for Himself Icon Every Man for Himself, which does almost the same thing, just that it does not remove harmful debuffs.

Blood Horror Icon Blood Horror is not normally advised for raiding, although it may be useful on fights where adds may attack you. It is very strong for solo content.

6. Tier 5 (Level 75) Talents

Grimoire of Supremacy Grimoire of Supremacy Grimoire of Service Grimoire of Service Grimoire of Sacrifice Grimoire of Sacrifice

Tier 5 talents provide various modifications to your demons.

  • Grimoire of Supremacy Icon Grimoire of Supremacy replaces your minions with more powerful demons that deal 20% more damage.
  • Grimoire of Service Icon Grimoire of Service allows you to summon a second demon who fights for you for 25 seconds. When summoned, each demon performs a specific action, before moving on to casting its usual abilities.
    • The Imp cleanses a harmful magic effect from you.
    • The Voidwalker taunts its target.
    • The Succubus seduces its target, if it is a Humanoid.
    • The Felhunter interrupts its target.
  • Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice sacrifices your demon to increase the damage of your Incinerate Icon Incinerate, Chaos Bolt Icon Chaos Bolt, and Shadowburn Icon Shadowburn by 25%. The damage increase is disabled while Fire and Brimstone Icon Fire and Brimstone is active. You also regenerate 2% of your maximum health every 8 seconds. Finally, you get one of the abilities of the sacrificed demon, which takes the place of your Command Demon Icon Command Demon placeholder spell:
    • Imp: Singe Magic Icon Singe Magic (useful for removing 1 stack of most debuffs);
    • Voidwalker: Shadow Bulwark Icon Shadow Bulwark (+30% maximum health for 20 seconds, stacks with Soul Link Icon Soul Link);
    • Felhunter: Spell Lock Icon Spell Lock (useful on fights where interrupts are required);
    • Succubus: Whiplash Icon Whiplash (can be helpful on fights with adds).

Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice is currently the only viable DPS option in Hellfire Citadel. Pets scale poorly since Mastery is our best stat, and Mastery only affects the damage we do. Therefore, we exclusively use Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice. There are a multitude of multitarget fights in Hellfire Citadel, and Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice actually increases heavily in value on AoE and cleave (contrary to popular belief). The reason for this is that on AoE and cleave you will be casting Shadowburn Icon Shadowburn frequently, which is empowered by Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice.

7. Tier 6 (Level 90) Talents

Archimonde's Darkness Archimonde's Darkness Kil'jaeden's Cunning Kil'jaeden's Cunning Mannoroth's Fury Mannoroth's Fury

Tier 6 talents provide situational DPS increases.

Archimonde's Darkness Icon Archimonde's Darkness is the talent of choice for all situations.

8. Tier 7 (Level 100) Talents

Charred Remains Charred Remains Cataclysm Cataclysm Demonic Servitude Demonic Servitude

Tier 7 talents give you performance-enhancing abilities.

Charred Remains Icon Charred Remains (in combination with Grimoire of Sacrifice Icon Grimoire of Sacrifice) is the best Tier 7 talent for all situations. It has strong synergy with the Legendary Ring, scales the best with our stats and trinkets of choice, and offers the most priority target damage by a landslide.

9. Major Glyphs

The potentially useful major glyphs are listed below. A good standard setup for progression is Glyph of Eternal Resolve Icon Glyph of Eternal Resolve, Glyph of Soulstone Icon Glyph of Soulstone, and Glyph of Conflagrate Icon Glyph of Conflagrate. Glyph of Eye of Kilrogg Icon Glyph of Eye of Kilrogg is the only mandatory minor glyph for raid progression.

  • Glyph of Eternal Resolve Icon Glyph of Eternal Resolve is mandatory for all encounters. You lose the ability to cast Unending Resolve Icon Unending Resolve, but gain 10% passive damage reduction. This glyph is mutually exclusive with Glyph of Strengthened Resolve Icon Glyph of Strengthened Resolve and Glyph of Unending Resolve Icon Glyph of Unending Resolve. Glyph of Eternal Resolve Icon Glyph of Eternal Resolve combined with Soul Link Icon Soul Link and Soul Leech Icon Soul Leech results in up to a 65% effective health increase — essentially, the combination of these three choices is better than passive Shamanistic Rage Icon Shamanistic Rage. How's that for overpowered?
  • Glyph of Soulstone Icon Glyph of Soulstone is mandatory for progression. This returns the target to full health after accepting your Soulstone Icon Soulstone. You should be placing your soulstone on the tank most likely to die prior to the beginning of the encounter. Not only does this result in an instant combat resurrection if they go down, but it also resurrects them where they died, which is highly useful for tanks (all other combat resurrections revive the target on top of the caster).
  • Glyph of Havoc Icon Glyph of Havoc causes Havoc Icon Havoc to have 6 charges (which you can consume with 6 Incinerate Icon Incinerates, 2 Chaos Bolt Icon Chaos Bolts, or 3 Incinerates and 1 Chaos Bolt), but Havoc has a 50-second cooldown. This glyph is always a DPS loss, though it is potentially usable on a single encounter this tier. On Mythic Archimonde, this glyph can be used to gain a very slight damage increase on Infernals in the final phase at the expense of significant boss and overall damage.
  • Glyph of Conflagrate Icon Glyph of Conflagrate enables you to snare targets with Conflagrate Icon Conflagrate even when the target is not afflicted by Immolate Icon Immolate.
  • Glyph of Dark Soul Icon Glyph of Dark Soul is nearly always a DPS loss. The only encounter where this glyph may be useful is on Mythic Mannoroth to increase the amount of uptime you can get on Fel Imps. This comes at the expense of boss and overall damage.
  • Glyph of Demonic Circle Icon Glyph of Demonic Circle reduces the cooldown of Demonic Circle: Teleport Icon Demonic Circle: Teleport, which can be useful if you need to often use your Demonic Circle.
  • Glyph of Siphon Life Icon Glyph of Siphon Life is an acceptable choice if you do not have another option for a third glyph.

10. Minor Glyphs

Most Minor Glyphs are cosmetic and will not improve your performance while raiding. Glyph of Eye of Kilrogg Icon Glyph of Eye of Kilrogg is the exception, allowing you to place your Demonic Circle: Summon Icon Demonic Circle: Summon near or under the boss pre-fight without pulling aggro. There are also very limited situations where casting Eye of Kilrogg Icon Eye of Kilrogg in combat to place Demonic Circle: Summon Icon Demonic Circle: Summon is more efficient than placing it manually, since Eye of Kilrogg Icon Eye of Kilrogg moves extremely quickly and can be dismissed after placing the circle. An example of a situation of where this is handy in combat is if you need to place a circle 20 yards away, but you do not want to run there and place the circle, then run back. Eye of Kilrogg Icon Eye of Kilrogg can cover this distance almost instantly, and then dismissed after placing Demonic Circle: Summon Icon Demonic Circle: Summon.
