General Information

This page is a gearing up guide for Elemental Shamans. It is updated for World of Warcraft Legion 7.0.3. It first presents the best in slot items before listing, slot by slot, all the items, with a level higher than 640, that you can acquire in the game. We also explain how you will be competing for loot with other classes.

The other pages of our Elemental Shaman guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1. Legion Pre-Expansion Patch Gear Recommendations

Here are a few recommendations for pieces to look out for, or swap to, while we finish out the expansion in the Legion pre-patch.

1.1. Trinket Recommendations

Core of the Primal Elements Icon Core of the Primal Elements is overall your strongest option in the pre-patch, no matter what item level it is.

Sandman's Pouch Icon Sandman's Pouch is a great option due to its consistency on the opener, synergy with Nithramus, the All-Seer Icon Nithramus, the All-Seer, and ease of attainment.

Chipped Soul Prism Icon Chipped Soul Prism is a great option, if you have one, as it provides a verifiable cornucopia of secondaries that result in very consistent pull-to-pull damage.

Orb of Voidsight Icon Orb of Voidsight can be used as an alternative second trinket on demon fights, though it is very RNG and potentially frustrating. It is also inferior to all the above trinkets even on demon fights, though better than the trinkets listed below by a small margin.

Stone of the Elements Icon Stone of the Elements is another great option, as it has high uptime, consistent procs, and great synergy with Nithramus, the All-Seer Icon Nithramus, the All-Seer and your opener. It can also be obtained very easily.

Desecrated Shadowmoon Insignia Icon Desecrated Shadowmoon Insignia is very RNG now, but it is an okay option if you have nothing better.

For the rest of your gear, go for highest item level first. The only exception is if it is a 1 or 2 item level difference, for example, a Titanforged Heroic piece versus a Mythic piece. In such circumstances, choose the better itemized item.

2. Loot Competition

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Hunters, Monks, Enhancement/Restoration Shamans, and Warriors
Mail Armor Hunters and Enhancement/Restoration Shamans
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Trinkets Balance Druids, Mages, Shadow Priests, and Warlocks
