About Our Author and Reviewers

This guide has been written by Furty, who has an illustrious history in the World of Warcraft raiding scene and race for World First. He has been a member of guilds such as Serenity, Midwinter, and many more, and is currently raiding in Myst. He plays most classes at the highest level. You can follow him on Twitter and watch him play on Twitch.

This guide has been written in collaboration with the team at Storm Earth and Lava, a group of Elemental theorycrafters that includes top players and prominent theorycrafters such as Stormy from Consequence, Sadozai from Wizards IRL, Gistwiki from Indestructible, and Booze from Entropy (world #5 guild).

1. Critical Strike vs Mastery

In the sections below, we advise the use of Critical Strike gems, enchants, and food. This is because it can be considered as your default secondary stat (being as useful in Mythic+ and raiding). That said, if you are using the Icefury Build you are free to use Mastery enhancements, because both stats have the same value in this case. If you are using the Ascendance Build and have not reached the Mastery breakpoint, then you should definitely use Mastery enhancements.

2. Gems

You should use Saber's Eye of Intellect Icon Saber's Eye of Intellect in one socket, and Deadly Eye of Prophecy Icon Deadly Eye of Prophecy in all other sockets.

3. Enchants

Slot Enchantment
Neck
Back
Rings

4. Consumables

Flask of the Whispered Pact Icon Flask of the Whispered Pact should be used for raids along with Potion of Prolonged Power Icon Potion of Prolonged Power as your potion of choice. You should eat The Hungry Magister Icon The Hungry Magister for the Critical Strike buff (or Leybeque Ribs Icon Leybeque Ribs, if you cannot afford the +375 food). Ancient Healing Potion Icon Ancient Healing Potion should be used in place of Healthstones. Fishbrul Special Icon Fishbrul Special pulls ahead very slightly on pure single target, making it a viable alternative on Guarm.

If you can afford it, you should also use the Legion augment rune: Defiled Augment Rune Icon Defiled Augment Rune. Note that it now works in Mythic+ dungeons (it did not used to).
