General Information

This page is a gearing up guide for Frost Mages. It is updated for World of Warcraft WoD 6.0.3. It first presents the best in slot items before listing, slot by slot, all the items, with a level higher than 346, that you can acquire in the game. We also explain how you will be competing for loot with other classes.

The other pages of our Frost Mage guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1. BiS Advice↑top

Giving a complete BiS list makes little sense, because of random Warforged upgrades and tertiary stats (such as sockets). Since reforging is gone, you should simply look for items that match your stat priority. The only slot where you have a real choice to make is for trinkets and we compiled a list of the best trinkets currently available to help you make your choice:

  1. Quiescent Runestone Icon Quiescent Runestone (Mythic);
  2. Shards of Nothing Icon Shards of Nothing (Mythic);
  3. Quiescent Runestone Icon Quiescent Runestone (Heroic);
  4. Sandman's Pouch Icon Sandman's Pouch (Level 3);
  5. Shards of Nothing Icon Shards of Nothing (Heroic);
  6. Quiescent Runestone Icon Quiescent Runestone;
  7. Copeland's Clarity Icon Copeland's Clarity;
  8. Sandman's Pouch Icon Sandman's Pouch (Level 2);
  9. Shards of Nothing Icon Shards of Nothing;
  10. Emblem of Gushing Wounds Icon Emblem of Gushing Wounds.

The difference between the best and worst trinket in this list is about 4% DPS.

2. Loot Competition↑top

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Death Knights, Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, and Rogues
Cloth Armor Arcane/Fire Mages, Priests, and Warlocks
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Balance/Restoration Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Holy Paladins, Priests, Elemental/Restoration Shamans, and Warlocks
Trinkets Balance Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, Shadow Priests, Elemental Shamans, and Warlocks
Swords Arcane/Fire Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Holy Paladins, and Warlocks
Daggers Balance/Restoration Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, Priests, Elemental/Restoration Shamans, and Warlocks
Off-Hand Frills* Balance/Restoration Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Priest Priests, and Warlocks
Staves Balance/Restoration Druids, Arcane/Fire Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Priests, Elemental/Restoration Shamans, and Warlocks
Wands Arcane/Fire Mages, Priests, and Warlocks

* Holy Paladins and Elemental/Restoration Shamans can also equip Shields. Therefore, they should never be given priority on an Off-Hand Frill, over Balance/Restoration Druids, Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Discipline/Holy Priest, and Warlocks.
