Best in Slot for Frost Mage
It is challenging to define a best-in-slot list for Frost, as it heavily depends on your progression level and gear. You cannot simply use the lower-tier equipment of any given best-in slot list, as stat weights will then shift, and you will likely be missing certain breakpoints.
Feel free to check below for a maxed-out Mythic best in-slot list, but be warned that unless you have access to all of those pieces, this is not the best you can get for your character right now. Simulation is always needed to be sure what is actually good for you at your current gear level. The below charts are simply for those who wish for a checklist to go for, like someone who is finishing the tier on farm or someone gearing up a new alt quickly using dungeon spam.
BiS Gear for Frost Mage
BiS List for Frost Mage
This list contains the highest DPS setup from most sources for Frost Mage. This is simply the Awakened gear profile used on the SimulationCraft website. The vast majority of this set can be achieved by any given player as long as they are clearing +10 keys.
Your own personal goal for gear will be slightly different depending on your progression level, as this assumes access to absolutely everything.

Mythic+ Gear BiS List for Frost Mage
This list contains the highest DPS setup, with farmable gear from Mythic+ Dungeons. This is a great place to start on a relatively new character, as you can infinitely grind out these items from Mythic+.
Please note that this list is only technically valid for 522 item level. It should be close enough for lower item levels to be irrelevant, however. Additionally, there are many many sidegrade options that work out to be functionally identical. Please sim your character to be sure, but this is posted as a sort of checklist for people farming out a new character quickly.
Also note that this does not include crafted gear and is intended as a sort of "this is the best that I can get from a pure drop standpoint" rather than any actual end-game profile to aim at.

Raid Gear BiS List for Frost Mage
This list contains the highest DPS setup, only using gear from the Awakened raid drops.
This list is mostly useful for informing your organized guild of what loot is optimal for you, for loot distribution purposes, or if you just really hate Mythic+. Note that this does not include crafted gear and is intended as a sort of "this is the best that I can get from a pure drop standpoint" rather than any actual end-game profile to aim at. Except for the BoE piece. Just go craft that, please, for everyone's sake.

Upgrading Gear in Dragonflight Season 4
Dragonflight Season 4 continues the upgrade system from previous seasons. The notable exception is that rare end boss items that historically dropped at a higher item level, can actually be upgraded to that higher maximum if bought with Antique Bronze Bullion, as shown in the next section.
For more information on the new Gear Upgrades system, check out our dedicated page for it below.
Best Gear To Spend Bullions On For Frost Mage
Season 4 offers a way to target specific, powerful items with the new Antique Bronze Bullion. Here are the best items to spend your Bullions on in Dragonflight Season 4.
- Dreambinder, Loom of the Great Cycle
- Whispering Incarnate Icon
- Seal of Filial Duty
- Seal of Diurna's Chosen
- Voice of the Silent Star
Evaluating Upgrades
The easiest way, and also the method we suggest, to compare multiple items is to use Raidbots' Top Gear. Here, you can input an export from the Simcraft AddOn, select the items to compare, and it will find out which of the items are best.
Dragonflight Season 4 Gear Considerations
Trinket and Gear Notes for Frost Mage
Most of the hard-to-find items from this expansion have made their way to the Antique Bronze Bullion vendor. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of gearing, and drama out of rare drops. Everyone is free to get Voice of the Silent Star!
As to trinkets, Whispering Incarnate Icon beats everything by a fair bit. Alongside it, Umbrelskul's Fractured Heart, Furious Ragefeather, and if you want to skip the Vault RNG, Belor'relos, the Suncaller are all fantastic second trinkets for raid.
For Mythic+, Whispering Incarnate Icon still beats everything, but Tome of Unstable Power is absurdly strong on any form of AoE. Failing that, both Furious Ragefeather and Umbrelskul's Fractured Heart are decent in dungeons. It really cannot be overstated just how strong Tome of Unstable Power is, however. It is a good 2% ahead of the rest of them, which is absurd given the usual difference is sub-1%.
Additionally, Umbrelskul's Fractured Heart's auto-kill mechanic sounds great on paper for dungeons, but in practice it will only proc a handful of times at useful points. Simming seems to have it at about a 1-2% DPS increase, but still a fair bit behind Tome of Unstable Power in AoE. It is still an amazing single target trinket, and acceptable in dungeons, but do not go out of your way for it if you do not raid.
Tier Pieces
Ideally, you skip the chest piece and pick up the other four slots.
As noted on the Rotation page, the 2-piece set bonus does change our rotation ever so slightly on 2 targets, and heavily incentivizes freezing anything you can hit with a Glacial Spike.
Profession Gear
While you can craft gear for any slot up to item level 525, there are certain pieces with extra powers or the ability to add powers via extra items during the crafting process. You may have two of these "Embellished" pieces equipped at once. The idea is to craft two items with Shadowflame-Tempered Armor Patch, usually on the wrists and belt (or boots if you are intending to use the Engineering wrists).
In addition, it is an extremely good idea to have one more crafted piece to support taking Alchemical Flavor Pocket, as that will drastically prolong the life of your guild's food stocks. This does not count towards your Embellished count. This can be obtained by either the Iskaaran Community Feast weekly quest, or bought from the Auction House.
As a bonus, Engineering can craft bracers for everyone that can slot in a tinker that does not count towards your two Embellished limit. While most are of questionable value, Tinker: Arclight Vital Correctors allows you to have a battle resurrection available as a class that traditionally does not have it. This can be useful with our Invisibility, as we can provide wipe recovery.
