Lore

Il'gynoth is one of the first bosses in the Emerald Nightmare Raid Instance.

Lodged in the hollows of a now-decrepit world tree, Il'gynoth is a manifestation of the horrors that lie at the hear of the Nightmare. It is a mass of corruption - a thing that should not be. It's tendrils seep through the ground, emerging in countless horrifying eyestalks and limbs.

Outline

The fight against Il'gynoth consists in two Phases (One and Two) that repeat twice. In Phase One, you need to kill a stationary add called the Eye of Il'gynoth (by killing other adds next to it). Killing this add allows you to enter the chamber behind it where you can attack Il'gynoth for 50 seconds (this is Phase Two). If Il'gynoth is not dead after 50 seconds, then Phase One starts again and after successfully completing it, you get a second and last chance at finishing off Il'gynoth (if you do not manage, the raid wipes at the end of that second Phase Two).

Here is a preview of the fight from the Legion Alpha/Beta.

TLDR

Below is a TL;DR of how to handle Il'gynoth's abilities, this should be used to familiarize yourself with the boss' abilities, and not as a blueprint for success (except maybe in LFR difficulty).

4.1.

Tanks

  • Tank Dominator Tentacles and watch out for the damage of Nightmarish Fury Icon Nightmarish Fury.
  • Pick up the Nightmare Horror when it spawns and tank swap at 2+ stacks of Eye of Fate Icon Eye of Fate.
  • When tanking the Nightmare Horror, make sure to move it when it creates a pool of Nightmare Corruption Icon Nightmare Corruption.
  • When there is nothing to tank, assume the role of a DPS player.
4.2.

Healers

  • Dispel Touch of Corruption Icon Touch of Corruption from raid members fixated by Nightmare Ichors.
  • Beware of tank damage from Nightmarish Fury Icon Nightmarish Fury (Dominator Tentacles) and Eye of Fate Icon Eye of Fate (Nightmare Horror).
  • Beware of massive AoE damage to raid members fixated by Nightmare Ichors if a large number of these adds are killed at the same time.
4.3.

DPS

  • Interrupt Mind Flay Icon Mind Flay from Deathglare Tentacles. Decide on an interrupt rotation if necessary.
  • Use the following kill priority for the adds:
    1. Deathglare Tentacles;
    2. Corruptor Tentacles (kill them with priority if Deathglare Tentacles are properly interrupted);
    3. Nightmare Ichors (kill them with priority if healers cannot keep up with the Touch of Corruption Icon Touch of Corruption DoT they apply);
    4. Dominator Tentacles (kill it with priority in Heroic+ mode, if the damage increase from Nightmarish Fury Icon Nightmarish Fury becomes too hard to handle);
    5. Nightmare Horror.
4.4.

Everyone

  • Phase One
    • Avoid getting hit by Spew Corruption Icon Spew Corruption from Corruptor Tentacles.
      • If hit, move away from the raid to drop your Nightmare Corruption Icon Nightmare Corruption void zones in safe areas.
    • Avoid getting hit by Ground Slam Icon Ground Slam (do not be on the same line as the boss and the targeted player).
  • Phase Two
    • Keep players outside to finish off Tentacles and Nightmare Ichors.
    • Do as much damage as possible to Il'gynoth during Phase Two.
    • Make sure to move away 11 yards from other players when targeted with Cursed Blood Icon Cursed Blood during Phase Two.
    • Get out of the chamber before the 50 seconds are up (so before Dark Reconstitution Icon Dark Reconstitution finishes casting).
