This guide has been written by Azortharion, the main theorycrafter of the spec. He is also an accomplished player who raids in Vanguard. You can also watch his stream on Twitch.

1. Trinket Rankings

1.1. Single-Target

*Note that all trinkets are simulated at 850 item level unless noted, and unless that trinket cannot reach that item level, in which case it will be at its base item level.

Marksmanship Trinket Sims

1.2. 3 Targets

Marksmanship Trinket Sims - 3 Targets

(M) is for Melee (Survival-only trinkets). These trinket sims are fairly preliminary, as not all trinkets have been implemented in the simulator yet. It is recommended that you hold onto all trinkets that drop, in case this simulation result changes. All trinkets are simulated at 850 iLvl, except for some trinkets like the Infallible Tracking Charm that are simmed at 815 as that is the highest they will ever go, and where noted. The margin of error is 0.1%, so around 250-400 DPS.

Naraxas' Spiked Tongue Icon Naraxas' Spiked Tongue requires you to stay 20 yards away from the target at all times, which is not often possible. So that trinket is overpowered somewhat in SimCraft compared to a more realistic scenario where you might be standing close to the boss for some periods.

2. Legion Legendaries

This is a comprehensive list of the non-spec specific legendaries that are available to Hunters in Legion. Legendaries can drop from daily loot chests, the Class Order Hall Mythic+ loot chest, the PvP loot chest, 5-man dungeons of all kinds, world bosses, and raid bosses from all difficulties. The spec-specific Legendaries will be listed under their respective class guide.

The Shadow Hunter's Voodoo Mask Icon The Shadow Hunter's Voodoo Mask is a Legendary helmet which heals you for 20% of your maximum health whenever you use Feign Death Icon Feign Death, as well as an additional 5% of your health every second for 10 seconds for as long as you remain feigned. This can be an extremely useful self-heal when needed during raid encounters and Mythic+ encounters.

Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus is a Legendary necklace which gives you an absorb shield for 15% of your health for 30 seconds if you do not take damage for 5 seconds. This effect can only trigger once every 30 seconds. This is not as useful as the Voodoo Mask for survivability, and you can not really control it beyond not taking damage, so it is not considered a very good legendary.

Roots of Shaladrassil Icon Roots of Shaladrassil are a pair of Legendary leggings that cause you to gain 4% health every 3 seconds for as long as you stand still. The first heal occurs 3 seconds after you stop moving. This adds up to a lot of passive healing during most boss fights, and is a very powerful, passive survivability boost.

Sephuz's Secret Icon Sephuz's Secret is a Legendary ring that gives you 70% increased movement speed and 15% Haste for 10 seconds whenever you apply a crowd control effect (slow, stun, root and so on). This is generally considered to be a PvP legendary, but it can act as a damage and mobility boost on add-heavy encounters where you have to slow enemies.

2.1. Marksmanship Legendaries

Magnetized Blasting Cap Launcher Icon Magnetized Blasting Cap Launcher are a pair of Legendary bracers that increase the damage done by Bursting Shot Icon Bursting Shot by 800%, and increases its range by 30 yards. This elevates Bursting Shot Icon Bursting Shot to your multi-target damage priority (>1), instead of only being used as a crowd control ability. It is especially powerful for Mythic+ dungeons, but its usefulness in raids is limited unless you can combine its AoE damage with its crowd control capability in a meaningful way.

War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army causes each enemy hit by Multi-Shot Icon Multi-Shot and Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders to increase the damage done by the next Aimed Shot Icon Aimed Shot by 10%, stacking up to 20 times. This is a decent single target legendary, but it is mostly powerful in AoE scenarios where you can stack the buff up and then fire an extremely high-damage Aimed Shot consistently. It is more consistently good than the Legendary Boots, especially if you are able to make use of its effect on multiple targets.

Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes are Legendary boots that reduce the cooldown of Trueshot Icon Trueshot by 1 second each time you cast a damaging ability (except everything but Arcane Shot, Multi-Shot, Marked Shot and Aimed Shot). On average, these boots will reduce the cooldown of Trueshot Icon Trueshot by ~30 seconds. This makes them the best legendary as a general statement, though their benefit will depend on whether the cooldown reduction will grant you an extra cast of Trueshot in the fight. Since the cooldown reduction is so drastic, however, this is fairly likely to happen.

Zevrim's Hunger Icon Zevrim's Hunger is a Legendary ring that gives Marked Shot Icon Marked Shot a 15% chance to not consume Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark, allowing you to cast them back-to-back. This is a pretty weak single-target legendary, but quite a strong AoE one since Marked Shot constitutes a lot of our AoE damage. It does not change your rotation in any meaningful way, and you should simply spam the extra Marked Shots that it gives you back-to-back.

2.1.1. Marksmanship Legendary Ranking

This is an approximately ranked list of the Marksmanship-specific Legendaries based on DPS output and occasionally flexibility/utility in raiding and Mythic+ dungeons.

  1. Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes (with an extra Trueshot) or War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army
  2. Zevrim's Hunger Icon Zevrim's Hunger
  3. Magnetized Blasting Cap Launcher Icon Magnetized Blasting Cap Launcher

3. Loot Competition

Regarding the loot you will get from raid or dungeon bosses, you will compete with other classes in the following cases:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Beast Mastery/Survival Hunters, Monks, Shamans, and Warriors
Mail Armor Beast Mastery/Survival Hunters and Shamans
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Trinkets Havoc Demon Hunters, Feral Druids, Windwalker Monks Beast Mastery/Survival Hunters, Rogues, and Enhancement Shamans
